Penstemon strictus
Penstemon strictus Rocky Mountain penstemon Penstemon strictus (PEN-stem-on STRIK-tus) Adding purple foliage to this gardening staple opens creative new frontiers for designers. Because Rocky Mountain penstemon grows in many different environments – alpine and desert, mildly acid and mildly alkaline – it is valued highly in wild-land restoration where strong performance is necessary. You’ll value this one for the many reasons you can use it beautifully in a landscape. Known best for displays of numerous 30-inch spikes covered in blue flowers all summer, Native Root’s Rocky Mountain penstemon has been selected to exhibit dense bluish-purple basal foliage. It has also been selected for resistance to powdery mildew. Native Roots Height: 36-42 inches. Diameter: 12-18 inches. Full sun to part shade. Adapted to coarse to medium clay soils, but will grow in slightly acidic, well-drained soils. Available in seed and plugs. Suitable for 4-inch and 6-inch pots.
