JUNE 2016 Missouri Round Robin Page 1 MISSOURI ROUND ROBIN A Publication of Al-Anon Family Groups of Missouri Alternate Delegate’s Report Greeting Missouri Round Robin Readers, Day In Service The 2016 Day in Service (July 9th) is rapidly approaching! This year’s theme is “Sliding into Service.” I am hoping the baseball theme will encourage all members to get involved and attend this very exciting event. We are planning an action-packed day centered around Service. We introduced the design for the Day in Service T-Shirts at the May Assembly. Mary L. asked a member from Kansas City North to work up a drawing. She sent it to me, and I loved it. Her name is Christina. She did an excellent job, and I am very appreciative of her service! This year’s tshirts are a ¾” sleeve baseball style jersey. You have a choice of Royal Blue or Cardinal Red for the sleeves. I will include pictures of the T-Shirt later in this issue. The design will have a few minor changes. It will be hard to see the color difference because the printing is in black and white. Please pass the information on to your groups. Orders must be made in advance. The order information is on the T-Shirt order form! The deadline will be June 18, 2016. I do not think we will have any extras left for purchase on the day of the event. I visited the church where the Day in Service will be held. It will be a great location. The parking will be located directly across the street from the building. If the parking lot is full, you may park on the street as well. We are requesting side dishes and desserts. I realize many of you will be traveling a distance, so that may not be possible. We are providing the Main Dish. We will be serving stadium style items: Hot Dogs, Pulled-Pork, Nachos. The Alateens will be snack vendors. They will be selling soda and a variety of Snacks. We will be having a basket raffle. Please consider submitting a basket for the raffle. We are requesting baseball themed baskets. You can go in many different directions with this theme. If you really don’t want to do a baseball-themed basket, we would accept other themed baskets. I am also going to include the registration form. Please pre-register. JUNE 2016 There is no fee to register. It will help us project an accurate count for food purchases. You can register at the door as well. The registrations will be sent to Sherri E. Here address is listed on the flyer. If you have any questions regarding the Day In Service, please don’t hesitate to e-mail me at [email protected]. A.A. Convention The Alcoholic’s Anonymous (A.A.) Convention will be held on July 29th – July 31st at the Capitol Plaza Hotel in Jefferson City, Missouri. There will be full Al-Anon participation. We will have 3-4 Al-Anon meetings. We will have a husband (AA) and wife (AFG) speak about communication during one of the mini meetings. Our featured Al-Anon speaker will be Ada H. from Smithville, MO. She will be speaking at 1 P.M. on Saturday afternoon. Jefferson City is centrally located and is convenient to get to. Please consider putting this event on your calendar. It’s imperative we support our fellow members and cooperate with Alcoholics Anonymous. I look forward to seeing you there. Conclusion Thank you for your continued support this Panel. We will be finishing up District Representative training in August. I am not sure what the content will be. Some District Representatives expressed they would like to have another Open Discussion Forum at the AWSC Meeting. Panel 54 has been full of exciting events and I am so grateful I have had the opportunity to be of service to the Missouri Area. I look forward to the rest of the Panel and can’t what to see is in the near future. I hope to see all of you at the upcoming events this summer. While you are marking your calendar for Day in Service and the A.A. Convention in July, don’t forget to mark it in June for the Conflict Resolution Workshop near Kansas City, MO. What we believe, we can achieve! Love in Service, Sarah S. Panel 54 Missouri Area Alternate Delegate UNITY * SHARING * GROWTH * UNDERSTANDING * HOPE * FRIENDSHIP * SERVICE Page 2 Missouri Round Robin Chairperson’s Report Another Assembly is in the books. We have only one more Assembly for this Panel and the Officers are working to put together a celebration of sorts for those of us who are "moving on" and those of us who are "moving in". I reviewed the evaluations this past weekend, and am happy to see that, for the most part, they were favorable. I do appreciate your honesty in filling the evaluations out because that is the only way that we know how and when to try something different. When I first started this Panel as Chair, I thought back to the time when I was a Group Representative (GR) and then a District Representative (DR) and attended Assemblies. I remembered how important it was for me to hear the DR and Coordinator reports so that I could hear what was going on around the State and get my folks in KC excited and out of our comfort zone. Early in the Panel I also used the "question mark" as a bit of an ice breaker. I loved that idea, but, sorry to say, have not followed up with it, because it appeared to me that there was just too much business in the Agenda to fit it in. Your comments make me think that I will definitely pass that idea on to the next Chair. There is so much to cover that I want to be sure that we get all of the business taken care of. However, if I'm honest I think that if I were sitting in the Assembly sometimes I would want a bit of a "fun time" myself. JUNE 2016 having Annette and Laura with us for the weekend. For those of you that were unable to attend, our Regional Trustee, Annette T. and the newly elected Delegate from Oklahoma, Laura D. were with us for the weekend. Annette shared part of her recovery story with us and also facilitated a skit on Saturday afternoon. They enjoyed their stay with us very much and appreciated the Missouri hospitality that we showed them. They commented on our ability to conduct business but yet have fun at the same time. I hope that if you attended Assembly you felt the same way. As we all know, it's not all fun and games. Sometimes, our passion rises to the top and our emotions get the better of us. When those sudden, spur of the moment times happen it's hard to pull in the reins and get back on track. My humanness sometimes makes it difficult for me to live and act with ease, balance and grace even when I know that it's the right thing to do. I am grateful that this program allows me to know that I am not perfect and sometimes I say or do things that are not right. I'm grateful for the ability to make amends. I'm grateful the God of my understanding loves me unconditionally and picks me up and dusts me off. I am grateful for the support of my fellow Officers. We want so badly to "do everything right" but that is not always possible. I'm grateful for the support of all of and you and for the opportunity I’ve had to see the Assembly from a different perspective. I have an understanding and an appreciation for what goes into the Assemblies that I never had before. The Knowledge Based Decision Making (KBDM) training that Sarah and Amy facilitated went over well As always, your support means so much to me. If also. This Panel of Officers has worked to give you as you have any comments, questions or concerns, much information as we can to help you with your please feel free to contact me or one of the other decision of whether or not to stand as an Officer or Officers. Coordinator next Panel. We hope that you feel more In Service, informed. Please remember that you can reach out to Mary L. us at any time if you have questions about the Panel 54 Chair-Area 31 upcoming elections. ************************** There were so many positive comments about ************************* Time for Father’s Day, the 1st Day of Summer and Vacations! My job duties can be pretty simple but sometimes time-consuming By the time you read this, the time for Al-Anon around the time of Area events. I am required to Member Involved In Alateen Service (AMIAS) attend six events per year. With the help of the re-certification for 2016 is almost over. If you are Alateen Coordinator and Area Alateen Process Person, currently an AMIAS and have not been either certified I determine when Serenity Patrol shifts need to be or re-certified this year, you should have re-certified scheduled and the length of the shifts. I then fill by the end of May. We are now into the “catch up those shifts with Al-Anon Members Involved In with the loose ends” stage and if you have not Alateen Service (AMIAS) that are available, keeping in submitted your form by the end of June, your AMIAS mind the purpose of Serenity Patrol (to keep Alateens status will be inactivated. We had all of the shifts covered and I want to am so grateful to be a part of that! My cup is full… thank everyone that helped out. We will have Lyn C. three more opportunities to serve with one more Area AMIAS World Service Committee (AWSC) meeting/Super Alateens Share UNITY * SHARING * GROWTH * UNDERSTANDING * HOPE * FRIENDSHIP * SERVICE JUNE 2016 Missouri Round Robin Convention Coordinator Report I want to share a few facts from the Spring Assembly before touching on Convention. First, I want to thank everyone for tolerating the rearrangement of the Assembly room. According to evaluations, other than microphone issues, the comments were positive. There were 80 people preregistered for Assembly. This helps us project how many folks we need to set the room up for. We had 160 chairs set up in the audience. The hospitality room appears to have been self-supporting--$300 income from pre-registration plus $235 collected in the Seventh Tradition can in the room ($535) while expenses totaled $437. Raffle income was $391.50. (Thank you to the dedicated members who contributed to the raffle and to all who purchased tickets!) The hotel bill has not been received yet but we had 62 rooms already booked for April 30 several weeks before Assembly, which guaranteed our contract rates without any issues. For those who have not attended Assembly before, please be advised that Saturday lunch and Sunday breakfast are available in the hospitality room. The Convention Committee is busy working on the items to fill in the program. We need some mini-meeting volunteers. Please let us know if you have an idea for a mini-meeting that you would like to chair. If you have seen a meeting, workshop or panel discussion that you think others in our Area could benefit from, please contact me or a member of our committee so we can get it on our program. We hope to see you and your friends and family at Inn at the Grand Glaize for “Alive at 65. Spiritual Principles: Past, Present, and Future!” That’s September 23-25, 2016. The registration form is in this issue of the Round Robin.
