CHARANDAS CHOR: THE HONEST THIEF
Friday 23 September 7.30pm
Written by Habib Tanvir
Directed by Sreenath Nair
The worldwide smash hit is back on tour.
Thurs 15 Sept 1pm & Sun 25 Sept 7.30pm
You’re six years old. Mum’s in hospital. Dad says she’s ‘done
something stupid’. She finds it hard to be happy. You make a
list of everything that’s brilliant about the world.
Never eat from a golden plate. Never sit on a throne. Never tell a lie.
A light-hearted comedy based on a traditional Indian folk tale. Charandas Chor is the story of an honest
thief. In return for a safe haven from the police, Charandas makes a set of bizarre promises to a holy
man. He agrees eagerly, unaware that a string of unlikely events will come to pass, testing his integrity
and endangering his life.
Charandas exposes corruption and hypocrisy in the political and social elite, proving that despite being a
thief, he is a more honourable man than those around him.
This is a joyful, engaging and energetic play with a universal appeal. Striking a balance between cultures,
this production draws influences from Indian costume and theatrical style, whilst integrating traditional
folk music and dance from Lincolnshire, with a cast of European performers. It is a truly multicultural
experience.
Written by Habib Tanvir, Charandas Chor is an Edinburgh Fringe First award-winning play. Part of the Lincolnshire Diversity in the Arts:
Research and Development project by University of Lincoln, and supported using public funding by Arts Council England. Project codirected by Arya Madhavan.

HAPPY TOGETHER
By Kate Newman
Friday 30 September 1pm
10
Everywhere you go you can see
happy couples being happy together.
Smiling profusely, laughing manically, grabbing,
grinding, slurping furiously. Happy happy happy.
It must be exhausting. Do you ever wonder what
happens when the happy couple go home, away
from the public eye? Do they unmask, unravel,
drop the act? Happy Together goes behind closed
doors and explores the theatricality of one couple’s
dysfunctional relationship.

just discovered they have superpowers.
But it’s difficult to fall in love when your parents need saving from

Friday 21 October 7.30pm
Olivier Award-winning OperaUpClose return to Lincoln with their new English version of La
Traviata. The story of Violetta, a so-called ‘fallen woman’ who sacrifices her own happiness for the
sake of her lover’s family and future, La Traviata has been thrilling audiences for generations.
Set in Atlantic City, USA, in the 1920s prohibition era of speakeasies and bootlegging, with
Violetta’s lover Alfredo a passionate young man whose optimism has been shaken by time at
the front in the first world war, Violetta’s protector ‘the Baron’ a gang boss, and Alfredo’s father a
crooked politician, this new production reveals the hypocrisy and heartache behind the glittering
façade of parties.

1972 THE FUTURE OF SEX
Friday 28 October 8pm
Thursday 27 October 7.30pm
It’s 1972. An era of possibility, polyester and pubic hair.
Ziggy Stardust is on Top of the Pops, Penny is writing an essay on Lady Chatterley’s Lover
and Christine is watching Deepthroat. Brian is confused. The Wardrobe Ensemble tell the
story of the class of ’72 with a handsome funk guitarist and some spacehoppers. Was it
easier back then? Where did we go wrong? A brisk romp through the ins and outs of those
excellently awkward first sexual encounters.
“Terrific work. Funny and true and a little bit heart-breaking.”

AM I DEAD YET?
Written and performed by Jon Spooner
and Chris Thorpe
Directed by Amy Hodge
Friday 11 November 7.30pm
Death is no longer a moment. It is
a process. A process that can be
reversed.
CONCERTO
Work In Progress
By Michael Pinchbeck
Two friends, talking (and singing) about
what happens when we die, how we
think about dying, and most importantly,
how some of us might be brought back.
Friday 4 November 7.30pm
24
Inspired by the composition of Piano Concerto for the left hand by Maurice Ravel and its commission by
Paul Wittgenstein, who lost his right arm fighting in World War One. Concerto explores how Ravel was
lost in a forest for 10 days outside Verdun in 1914, inspiring him to write his most celebrated works. The
audience become the orchestra. A conductor becomes an assassin. A pianist plays a piece of music that
tells a story about disability, music, war and 100 years of history.
“Michael Pinchbeck is a terrific theatre-maker.” THE GUARDIAN
Supported by Attenborough Arts Centre (Leicester), Lakeside Arts Centre (Nottingham) and Lincoln Performing Arts Centre.

SEANN WALSH: ONE FOR THE ROAD
Wednesday 23 November 8pm
Jasmin Vardimon Company
PINOCCHIO
Thursday 17 November 7.30pm
Jasmin Vardimon Company presents a brand new adaptation of the classic tale, Pinocchio. Based on the
original book by Collodi and performed by Vardimon’s multi-talented dancers, Pinocchio will bring to life
the famous marionette as he embarks on a fantastic journey to become a human boy.
Showcasing Vardimon’s uniquely theatrical choreographic and directional style, Pinocchio will combine
physical theatre, quirky characterisation, innovative technologies, text and dance to examine the idea of
what it means to be human.
With an insightful humour, engaging drama and an acute observation of behaviour Pinocchio will take
audiences on a wonderful journey of discovery through the parameters of this timeless and beloved fable.
The Lie-in King presents his brand new show.
However dishevelled he may be, the Foster’s Comedy Award
nominee is also one of the best comics in the country. With
a keen observational mind, Seann can spot the absurdity
in everything and convert it to perfectly delivered stand-up
comedy.
As seen on BBC1’s Live at the Apollo, ITV’s Jonathan Ross
Show and Tonight at The London Palladium, ITV 2’s Celebrity
Juice, Channel 4’s 8 Out Of 10 Cats and Alan Carr: Chatty Man
and Comedy Central’s Russell Howard’s Stand Up Central.
