Orchard Hill School teamed up with
the South Windsor Police Department
and South Windsor Youth and Family
Services to collect items for “Bundles of
Joy.”
The fifth-grade School Life Committee,
led by teacher Karyn Kruzick, organized
the event. The students accomplished
their goal to fill a police cruiser with
baby supplies such as diapers, wipes,
ointments, lotions, bath soap, bottles and
related supplies.
All of the donations went to local residents, as well as The Network Against
Domestic Abuse Women’s Shelter, KidSafe CT and First Way Life Center.

sports and math
Philip R. Smith fifth-graders Jack McClusky and Marcus Rodriguez have been
helping math teacher Julie Ratajczak challenge the students with basketball-related
math questions. Students in multiple
grades have been solving a variety of math
questions, such as finding the area and perimeter of a basketball court and finding
the mean, or average, of a team’s points
during the Math Madness tournament.
Winners were picked from those students
who submitted the correct answer each
week. The first week’s winners were thirdgraders Emma Sanson, Amy DeGrandi,
Devon Kevetos and Rebecca Chernik. Winners for the second and third weeks of the
competition were fourth-graders Humza
Bhura, Charlie Keen, Cooper Castellone
and Nick Gattuso.
