We are the Queen family; we moved into the neighborhood last August and couldn't be happier to call Triple Crown our home. Ms. Josselyn is a bright and will-full little lady, who keeps right up with her brothers (her favorite thing to say is, "Me too!"). Joss would be at the park every day, if it were an option, running and climbing with her brothers. Heath is from Medina OH, where he found football to be his passion. A scholarship led him to play football at The Ohio State University, where he was a three-year letterman for the Buckeyes. His career was cut short by a neck injury, which led him to complete his degree, then to Cincinnati for a sales opportunity. Lucky for him, his beautiful bride-to-be decided a sales career was also in her stars! We also have two dogs that our family enjoys walking through the neighborhood; Tucker (8-year-old English bull dog) and Remi I am NKY born and raised, a proud alumnus of St. Henry District High School and Xavier University. After college I decided to go into sales, where I met Heath. We fell in love and were married in September of 2007. We began our family right away and my career quickly shifted into full time mom. Heath and I have been blessed with three beautiful children, Emmett (5), Landry (4) and Josselyn (2). Mr. Emmett is clever and determined, who is always asking what he can do to help. Emmett’s graduating from St. Timothy’s Kindergarten this year and will begin first grade at New Haven Elementary this fall. His favorite things to do are play baseball, basketball or football, ride his bike and fish. 11 (3-year-old Yorkie teacup). They are quite the odd pair (especially when Remi surfs on Tuckers back) but the best of friends! With such a busy household I am happy to stay home with our children. Heath is a senior sales consultant with Zeiss Meditec, (a global leader in ophthalmic medical devices) having a home office is both a blessing and a curse with our jubilant 5,4 and 2 year olds. Heath and I are overjoyed to have such a friendly and beautiful place where we can raise our family! It’s definitely sunny on Sunny Lane, thanks to our wonderful neighbors. "Millennials" Must Plan This article was written by Edward Jones. I f you’re one of the “millennials” — the generation that began in the early 1980s — you are still in the early stages of your career. Retirement must seem like a long way off — yet, it’s never too soon to start planning for it. At the same time, though, you may also have shorter-term goals. Can you make progress toward your near-term and long-term objectives at the same time? Yes, you can — but you’ll need to match your short- and long-term goals with the appropriate savings and investment vehicles. For example, one of your most important short-term goals may be purchasing a house, so you’ll need to accumulate a certain amount of money by a certain time — perhaps in three to five years. Therefore, you won’t want to risk your down payment on an investment whose price will fluctuate — and whose value may be down just when you need the money. Consequently, you may want to look for a shorter-term investment whose objective is preservation of principal. Typically, with these types of vehicles, for Short-and Long-term Goals the shorter the term, the lower the interest rate — but since your goal is basically to have a certain amount of money available at a certain time, you might be less interested in what return you’ll get on this particular investment, as opposed to the return you might hope for from other, longer-term vehicles. In fact, while you are saving for your down payment on your home, or for other short-term goals, you also need to be thinking long term — that is, you need to save as much as you can for your eventual retirement. Since you are still in the early stages of your working life, you have an enormous asset going for you: time. By starting to save for retirement now, you have more time to save than you would if you waited another decade or so. Plus, since you have so many years to go until you retire, you can afford to put a reasonable percentage of your investment dollars into growthoriented instruments, such as stocks or stock-based investments. They may carry more risk, including the risk of losing principal, but they also offer greater reward potential than, say, fixed-income vehicles such as bonds. And holding growth investments for the long term can help you look beyond short-term volatility. You can start a long-term investment program by investing in your 401(k) or other retirement plan offered by your employer. These plans usually offer a variety of investment options, including several growth-oriented accounts. Plus, any earnings are typically tax-deferred, which means your money could grow faster than if it were placed in an investment on which you paid taxes every year. So try to take full advantage of your employer’s plan — at a minimum, contribute enough to earn a match, if one is offered. Then, every time your salary goes up, boost your contributions. With discipline and perseverance, you can move toward both your distant and imminent goals. And that’s the long and the short of it. 15 wild 16 Lawn&Garden Triple Crown Life July 5K FUN RUN AND .5 MILE KIDS’ RUN Proceeds donated to the 5k winners’ charity* of choice. There are 3 ways to win: Be the top male finisher, the top female finisher, or register the largest number of participants for your charity. Each category winner will earn 1/3 of the proceeds for their cause. Charities are eligible to win more than one category. Can your organization take 1st place in all three categories to become a Triple Crown winner? (*Charities must be legitimate not-for-profit organizations dedicating at least 75% of revenue to their stated mission. Race officials may reject charities that do not meet these standards.) Article Source: National Gardening Association Buying Seed Most gardeners buy wildflower seeds in mixes, which are usually designed for specific regions. Mixes designed for cut flowers are also available, or you can buy seeds individually. The listing of wildflowers below will help you understand the ingredients of a mix and guide you in making your own. One important reason to sow a mix of seeds is that it's impossible to know which wildflowers will grow most successfully in your area's conditions. If you sow several kinds, it's likely that at least one type will thrive. A planting of one kind of seed can be very dramatic, but the risk of a complete failure is greater. When and Where to Plant You can sow wildflower seeds in fall no matter where you live in North America. However, if you've chosen wildflowers that are not native to your region, there's a possibility that the seedling plants will be damaged by winter cold. Sow seeds in fall if you live in the West, Southwest or Southeast (zones 8 to 10). Sowing seed at this time gives plants the benefit 17 2ND ANNUAL TRIPLE CROWN for Wildflowers Wildflowers are pretty and charming, and they grow with a minimum of fuss and bother. They are hardy and well adapted, surviving admirably with little gardening effort. There's no watering and no bugs to compete with, and in many cases, they will come back year after year. But perhaps best of all, you can bring these brilliantly colored, delicate flowers indoors for bouquets: Many make beautiful cut flowers. NeighborhoodNews July Triple Crown Life of moderate soil temperatures and winter rains. Seeds will germinate and develop root systems, then enter a dormant period until Spring. All the bouquet wildflowers below need full sun and welldrained soil. Sow wildflower seeds wherever you desire a wild, uncontrolled effect. Try wildflowers instead of bedding plants in corners and borders, around fruit trees or to fill in the gaps between still-spreading ground covers. You can even replace your lawn with wildflowers! It is important to minimize weeds before planting. Water the area, and wait a week or so for regrowth to begin. Then choose a soap-based herbicide or a flame weeder to kill the plants. All three methods kill existing weeds without disturbing the soil. Lightly scratch the soil surface with a rake to prepare for planting. Mix small seeds with washed sand or vermiculite to make sowing easier and to help get even distribution. Use one (for larger seeds) to four (smaller seeds) parts sand with one part seed. Scatter the seeds over the area as evenly as possible, first walking in one direction and then in the perpendicular direction. Press the seed into the soil with your footsteps. If you're seeding a large area, use a partially filled water roller (available at rental yards). It's inevitable that some weeds will appear in your new planting. At first, it will be difficult to distinguish them from the wildflowers. But pull any grasses, and be highly suspicious of any plant that's growing much faster than everything else. So what are they thinking about? What are they doing this summer? Being out of school for many means getting to stay up late, and sleep in. For others, it means going away to camp. Others enjoy going to the pool. And some just “hang out” at home or with their friends. As parents, it's important to start teaching kids at an early age about being responsible. As parents, we need to be good role models. Right versus wrong, safety, respecting others' property and space, and following the rules. Some parents do a better job of this than others. Enjoy the rest of the summer, and remember if your child needs his/ her annual well child check, make sure to schedule it now. And don't forget, a well check also “counts” as a sports physical. If your physician doesn't “believe” in yearly physicals for children (yes, there are some who feel this way, sadly) then transfer to a pediatrician. Preventive care is our business. Children, through college, are our business. One of the most disturbing things I have seen this summer is the blatant disregard some parents have for the lifeguards at the Triple Crown Pool. The age of the lifeguards is irrelevant. At the pool, they are the boss....they are in charge....PERIOD. If they blow their whistle at you or your child, listen to them. Not doing so sends a message to the children at the pool that they don't have to listen either. 513.943.1984 EASTGATE Design Ctr. 760 Eastgare South With regard to safety, as a pediatrician, I like to remind parents, and patients, of the following at well child visits. He was honored at the Boy Scouts of America – Dan Beard Council Annual Trailblazer Luncheon for all of the amazing work he has been doing, especially in Covington. On March 20th, nearly 300 community leaders attended the Trailblazer Award Luncheon at the Drees Pavilion in Covington. The event, which is the largest fundraiser for Scouting in Northern Kentucky, has so far raised over $61,000 to benefit local Scouting programs. Dr. G. Edward Hughes, President of Gateway Community and Technical College was this year’s honoree. He was recognized for his outstanding leadership in the community, through his efforts with the Kentucky Symphony Orchestra, the Northern Kentucky Chamber, the United Way, and many other organizations. Dr. Hughes has worked to build communities and improve the lives of citizens in Northern Kentucky, which are the attributes that align with Scouting’s efforts to build the future leaders of these same communities. A special thanks to our Presenting Sponsor, Strauss Troy, and also to Gateway, Toyota, The Bank of Kentucky, Central Bank, and CBTS, who each sponsored at the Life Scout Level. And finally, to the more than 30 additional Table Sponsors and Captains who made the event possible. For information on the Trailblazer Award Luncheon or Northern Kentucky Scouting, please contact 513-577-7700 or visit www.danbeard.org. 28 NeighborhoodNews Triple Crown Life July I grew up in Cookeville, TN then my family and I moved to Florence, KY in 1997 when we bought a couple hotel businesses. I went to Boone County High School and graduated in 2004 then went on to Northern Kentucky University and graduated in 2009 with a Bachelor’s in Business Management and a minor in Business Administration. After graduating, I went into the family business knowing that I wanted to be an entrepreneur and soon started my company, OneStopParking.com. BUSINESS beat Written by resident Devesh Patel, Director of Operations I started OneStopParking.com in 2011. My company contracts with hotels with nearby airports/seaports that have shuttle service in which we contract the hotels empty parking spaces. I started this company when I saw a need for hotel guests wanting save money to pay to park their vehicles at the hotel versus the airport. No room reservation is required, instead of paying a premium price at airport parking lots and garages you park at a nearby, well secured, name brand hotels that will shuttle you to and from the airport at no additional cost. OneStopParKing.com strives to only choose the hotels within close proximity of the airport that provides complimentary shuttle service. OneStopParKing.com has long-term and short-term cheap airport and seaport parking. Our airport parking agents provide great service with hassle free shuttle service to and from the airport or seaport on a 24-hour basis or on demand; leaving you with no need to go through rows and rows of vehicles to find yours. Then, apply the non-gloved hand so it wraps comfortably around the handle. From there, the thumb and index fingers of both hands form two V’s, both of which should be pointed somewhere around the right side of your chest or right shoulder. Researchers in Denmark in the 1970s found that the Inuit people in Greenland showed a much lower rate of cardiovascular problems than the people of Denmark. The answers that were found in this research showed that even though the Intuit people had a high consumption of fats, they were actually fats from fish, seals, whales and other sea foods; in fact they were Omega-3 fatty acids. After that discovery, many studies were set up all over the world and they have shown that the original research was correct, in that Omega 3 oils did help to prevent heart disease, cancer and diabetes, together with the fact that they did help tremendously in improving overall health. miracle as far as the human body is concerned. This could be a lead to problems like dyslexia, depression, eczema, violence, allergies, and arthritis. The old story that "fish is brain food" is very true as the human brain is mainly made up of fat and that is the type that requires omega 3 as nutrition.
