Thurs 13th February
Dir. David O. Russell,
USA, 2013, 138 mins
Christian Bale,
Amy Adams,
Bradley Cooper,
Jennifer Lawrence,
Jeremy Renner
A fictional film set in the alluring world of one of the most
stunning scandals to rock our nation, American Hustle tells the
story of brilliant con man Irving Rosenfeld (Bale), who along with
his partner Sydney Prosser (Adams) is forced to work for a wild
FBI agent Richie DiMaso (Cooper). DiMaso pushes them into a
world of Jersey powerbrokers and mafia that’s as dangerous as
it is enchanting. Irving’s unpredictable wife Rosalyn (Lawrence)
could be the one to pull the thread that brings the entire world
crashing down. Like David O. Russell’s previous films (Silver
Linings Playbook, The Fighter), American Hustle defies genre,
hinging on raw emotion, and life and death stakes.

Emma Thompson, Tom Hanks,
Paul Giamatti, Colin Farrell,
Jason Schwartzman, B.J. Novak
In his quest to obtain the rights for
P.L Travers’ book, Mary Poppins,
Walt Disney comes up against a curmudgeonly, uncompromising writer
who has absolutely no intention of letting her beloved magical nanny
get mauled by the Hollywood machine. Armed with imaginative
storyboards and chirpy songs from the talented Sherman brothers, Walt
launches an all-out onslaught on P.L. Travers, but it is only when he
reaches into his own childhood that Walt discovers the truth about the
ghosts that haunt her, and together they set Mary Poppins free.

Falling pregnant as a teenager in Ireland in 1952, Philomena was sent to
the convent of Roscrea to be looked after as a “fallen woman”. When
her baby was only a toddler, he was taken away by the nuns for

alone to care for her wounded husband who has been in a coma for the
past two weeks. For the very first time in her life she is able to confess
her deepest feelings, believing he has become her ‘Patience Stone’, a
