President Nixon hinted on this day in 1973,
that the United States might again intervene
in Vietnam to prevent communist violations
of the cease-fire truce. The truce, under the
provisions of the Paris Peace Accords, had
gone into effect on January 27, 1973, but
was quickly and repeatedly violated by both
sides as they jockeyed for control of territory in
South Vietnam.
Nixon had been instrumental in convincing
the reluctant South Vietnamese President
Nguyen Van Thieu to sign the peace treaty,
promising him that, “We will respond with full
force should the settlements be violated by
North Vietnam.”
The Vietnamese North-South fighting
continued into 1974. Thieu appealed to Nixon
to make good on his promises, even though
virtually all remaining American forces were
brought back to the United States in 1973.
Nixon had become increasingly embroiled
in the Watergate scandal and resigned from
office in August, 1974. His successor, Gerald
Ford, was unable to persuade Congress
to provide the promised support to South
Vietnam. The North Vietnamese then launched
their final offensive in the spring of 1975 and
South Vietnam was defeated. It surrendered
unconditionally on April 30, 1975.

On the third Tuesday of the
month beginning at 6 p.m.,
caregivers will meet for the
Alzheimer’s
Association’s
support group. The next meeting will be held March 19, followed by April 16. Facilitated
by a trained leader, the group
meets at St. Mary Medical
Center Auditorium located at
1500 South Lake Park Avenue
in Hobart.
This group meets monthly
to provide caregivers with
an opportunity to share their
experiences and receive support from others coping with
Alzheimer’s disease. During
the meetings, caregivers are
encouraged to share information, give and receive support,
and exchange coping experiences and strategies. Meetings
are open to the public and facilitated by a trained professional and/or family member.
“It’s important for caregivers to remember that they
are not alone on their journey
through dementia caregiving.
Support groups are a great
way to meet other caregivers
for advice and understanding,” said Kristi Ritchie of the
Alzheimer’s Association.
There is no cost or commitment for caregivers to attend.

Buffalo Wild Wings supporting cancer cause during March
The Jared Tomich Halo of
Hope Foundation has teamed
up with local Buffalo Wild
Wings locations during the
month of March in support of
the Hoops for Halos donation
program, which runs through
the month of March.
All proceeds from donations will go directly to The
Halo of Hope Foundation,
founded by local, retired NFL
player Jared Tomich. Tomich
began his foundation after
attending a Circle of Friends
camp in Wisconsin that focused on children with cancer. This is his foundation’s
first year running the Hoops
for Halos program.
The program allows customers to donate in two ways.
At the end of the meal, customers are able to round up
their bill, or donate a few dollars in support of the Halo of
Hope Foundation. Customers
who donate will receive a
Hoops for Halos pinup to be
signed and placed on the wall
of Buffalo Wild Wings for the
duration of the month.
The second way to donate
J & J Accounting
Services, Inc.
is through donation boxes.
Each location has a Halo of
Hope Foundation donation
box at the front of the location to allow individuals to
donate change.
The Hoops for Halos program is available at 8 local
Buffalo Wild Wings including
Crown Point, Schererville,
Hobart, and Valparaiso.
Services include:

Federal and State Tax Returns
