GALWAY TO GRACELAND: (Richard Thompson) tells the story of a woman who leaves her life in Ireland to be near her love: Elvis Presley. No one writes desperate and crazy as well as Richard Thompson. A MINER’S LIFE: (Traditional) Coal Mining is dirty, ugly, dangerous work, and it leaves a mark on the men who make their living underground. This song is dedicated to William Scotland, who spent 35 years “Down the Mine” and remains one of the kindest most gentle men I have ever known. POPPY’S TUNE : (Matthew Williams) THE MAN WHO DUG THE WELL : (Deanna Smith Scotland) A tribute to Tommy Makem. Tommy Makem IS the man who dug the well. He was a founding father of modern Celtic music ,be it traditional, Irish ballads fused with American folk, or Celtic rock. He nurtured us, encouraged us, and when we behaved badly, he glared at us over his glasses. His passing in 2007 left a hole in our community as well as our hearts. This song was inspired by Tommy and all who came before us; those who kept their “hands on the shovel”, and by Máirtín de Cógáin for having the grace to remind us that we stand upon the stage that Tommy Makem built. MACFURLEY’S RANT: (Richard Kean) (Abby’s Jig / The Jilting) “Abby’s Jig” is the first tune that Richard wrote, it is dedicated to his first niece and “The Jilting” was written for a friend who kept going back to the same wrong man. Some things in life need a watchful eye every now and again - who better to watch over you than Mr Furley. IRISH BLUES: (Traditional) A traditional Irish song set to a blues groove…”He may be a bad boy but he’s mine”. The story is universal, whether it takes place on Henry Street, or Bourbon Street. TWO MINUTES SILENCE: (Brian McNeill) This song was given to Jiggernaut by our dear friend Brian McNeill. Powerful and passionate, it speaks to the real cost of war, hatred and greed. TRUE NORTH: (Deanna Smith Scotland) Everybody has a dream, but not everyone has the courage to make it come true. So dream your dream, believe in yourself, and find YOUR true North.
