the 2008 Football Program Guide — Printable PDF
From the Head Coach’s desk:
The inaugural season of Thunder football was a period of learning,
growth, ups-and-downs, and proud accomplishments. We truly
experienced a little bit of everything during our debut season. Clearly,
the foundation of the Thunder football program was established and
our student-athletes and coaches are ready to continue building the
tradition during the 2008 season.
Last year, we were competitive through a strong effort in every contest.
Our performance made the conference members take notice and
understand that it will only be a short time before Thunder football will
be a contender every year.
Several players earned postseason honors for 2007. Quarterback Joe
Plinski and lineman Davarquez “Chevy” Wheeler were named to the
All-Conference Team, and Wheeler was also named to the NJCAA AllRegion 13 Team for his outstanding play as a defensive lineman. Five
other players were named Honorable Mention to the All-Conference
Team: Eric Augustin, Jasmon Watkins, Maurice Morris, Taylor Hanson,
and Antwoine Shelton.
Our plan is to move the program forward during the 2008 campaign.
The commitment by our returning players in the off season has been
tremendous. We expect returning starters Taylor Hanson, Dominick
Schmitz, Jasmon Watkins and Antwoine Shelton to provide veteran
leadership. We have a talented recruiting class that we expect will make
a sudden impact on our team and league, including Kyle Grimm, Kris
Adams, and Ronald Sellers. Incoming transfers Kyle Hall and Keith
Lofgren will be counted on to make plays early and often this season.
Our roster is talented, and we look forward to seeing who will step up
during practice, at games, and in the classroom.
Coach David Wilson will coordinate the defense that finished third in
the conference statistics last season. Coach Courtney Walters will
prepare the defensive backs and special teams units. Coach Scott
Antonutti returns as our offensive coordinator.
Optimism is high for the second season of Thunder football. We know
the support of the community and college will continue, and for that
we thank you.
