Few hues ring in spring quite like green
(… and keep ringing it in all year long!)
It’s the color of lush forests,
tropical waters and mossy
ground cover. But according
to the professionals, making
the most of green inside our
home takes a bit of know-how!
Here are three of their top tips:
Focus your room scheme
around the greens of a
particular season. Green’s
variations are limitless… with
options running the gamut
from honeydew to moss,
oregano to viridian. Combining
the cool, airy greens of spring,
the saturated greens of
summer, the earthy greens
of fall, or the gray greens
of winter makes a scheme
easier and more cohesive!
Subtle shades are easiest
to live with. Very bright grassy
greens look pretty on a patch
of lawn, but on our walls,
slightly more muted greens
are less tiring to live with.
Green looks great with
wood. Recall nature’s perfect
pairing of green leaves with
a brown tree trunk? TPairing
your green walls with wood
furniture creates a similarly
beautiful effect. Since green
is mostly a cool shade…it
balances warm wood tones
beautifully—bringing out its
rich tones better than almost
any other color!
Green is nature’s most peaceful hue—
promising balance, serenity, and warmer
weather ahead. But green has many

us (and our rooms) in slightly different ways,
depending on their makeup.

Green feels good to be around! It’s a natural, balanced
hue that’s uniquely positioned between cool blue and
warm yellow on the color wheel. But it can be influenced
by either! Cool blue-greens feel sophisticated, elegant and
relaxed. Warm yellow-greens feel youthful, fashion-forward
and energetic.

ring in spring with an
innerspring mattress
I’ve heard a lot about new mattress foams and technologies.
We’re in the market for a new bed this spring—are innerspring
mattresses still a good choice?

Hi Brian —
There’s no doubt that new mattress materials and technologies
are continuing to capture consumer interest and market share.
Using memory foam and gel-infused foam in mattress designs
adds benefits—from less motion transfer between sleepers to
cooler and more body-centric sleeping comfort.
So it may seem surprising that the good old innerspring mattress—
with its layers of foam and upholstery surrounding a core of
tempered steel coils—is still as popular as it is. Surprising, that
is, until you consider the innerspring mattress’s strong value
proposition: a great night’s rest at a great price!
“A good night’s rest is what we all want—and need most”, says
Brad Rogers, Senior VP for Ashley Sleep. “But what we each
find comfortable can differ a lot,” he adds, “and for many of us,
that continues to be an innerspring mattress.”
According to Rogers, though, innerspring mattresses are also
undergoing improvements that provide new benefits, including a
pocketed inner coil construction. “Pocketed coils are individually
wrapped, allowing them to move individually rather than together.”
The effect, Rogers says, is to increase support for different body
shapes and body pressure points, and to decrease motion disturbance when more than one person sleeps in the same bed.
New ‘hybrid’ mattresses that blend comfort technologies are
also growing in popularity, Rogers says, with an innerspring core
being encased in newer memory foam and gel-infused foam

hybrid mattress construction is to bring together the best of the
new technologies at more appealing price points.
But when deciding on the best mattress for you, Rogers insists on
letting your own individual comfort preferences come ahead of any
specific technology. His best advice is to try out enough beds—and
choose the one that puts you to sleep!
