College Transition Program
What’s the big deal about college?
Years ago, attending college was a luxury that only a few
could afford. Many good jobs required only a high school
diploma, or even less. Not anymore. The road to most wellpaying jobs now runs directly through college- it’s a fact!
The data is clear, the more you learn. . .
• The more you earn
• The healthier you are
• The better your children do in school
• The more likely you are to vote
• The more you volunteer and serve in the community
However, the process of applying and going to college
as an adult can be scary and overwhelming. The Maine
College Transition Program was established for adult
education programs to assist adults who want to go
to college. Cumberland-North Yarmouth Community
Education is pleased to announce that we continue to share
in a state grant for a regional College Transition program
with Gray and Windham Adult Education. Please contact
Sarah Davis at the Cumberland Community Education at
829-2208 for more information.

Year’s Resolutions for the past 5 years. Is this your year?

time, and your life. Using simple, clear cut instructions and
advice, you will learn why things you may have tried in
the past haven’t worked in the long run, and how to create

Learn about Ethical Wills, a centuries-old tradition with
roots in Christianity and Judaism, and consider creating
your own ethical will. Different from legally binding
wills focusing on material assets, Ethical Wills address
one’s legacy in terms of passing on values, philosophy,
and important life lessons to others. “5 Wishes” is a
novel living will format for guiding others in meeting
one’s personal, emotional and spiritual needs, as well as
medical wishes, if a serious illness occurs. Inspired by the
works of Mother Theresa, 5 Wishes has been used by over
13 million Americans. Learn more about this important
planning tool, referred to by some as the first “living will
with a heart and soul,” and take home your own copy.
Tracy Magner is a woman with a long history of disorganization.
Her journey through her mess and the lessons she learned
along the way to becoming a truly organized person have
inspired her to reach out to other disorganized people. “I truly
understand how our clutter affects all aspects of our lives, and
how difficult it is to regain control. I did it, and I can help you
do it, too.” Member of the National Association of Professional
Organizers. Visit www.TMorganizing.com

Fall Dance Aerobics
Zumba Gold
Instructor: Karan Miller
www.jackis.com
Instructor: Suzanne McManus
This is the original, award-winning Aerobic
Dancing of Jacki Sorensen. What sets this program
apart is choreography in every element of the 1 hour
full body program: stretching, abdominal work, body
sculpting with option hand-held and /or ankle weights,
cardiovascular conditioning (dances!), and cool-down are
all done with style to a great variety of music, and at a
personal level. You can dance this program through your
life. It is presented as a dance class, learning steps, adding
formations; it is progressive. It is truly serious fun, in a
non-competitive atmosphere. Please bring good sneakers,
a mat, water bottle, and weights (up to 6 pounds for each
hand, and 1.5 pounds on each ankle) if you want to use
them; you will be encouraged to start with low poundage.
New participants over 40 and pregnant women need to
provide a physician’s permission slip when registering.
Zumba Gold is geared for active older adults and Zumba
beginners. The same Latin and International rhythms and
dance steps are used as in the original Zumba program,
but each class includes a longer warm-up and cool-down
and the choreography is given at a slower, gentler pace.
You get a safe and effective total body workout in a partylike atmosphere. So, if you’ve been thinking about trying
Zumba, here’s your chance to join in on the fun!
