GENERAL INFO
WELCOME FROM THE PARKS & RECREATION DIRECTOR
As I complete my first year with Cranberry Township Parks & Recreation Department, I look out my window in awe at the winter
wonderland that our beautiful parks have become and my thoughts go to summer. SUMMER?! That’s right, the hot weather,
bustling community enjoying all the amenities we have to offer in our parks, summer camps and our Waterpark. We are always
thinking and planning a season or two ahead as we go through the processes of hiring and training staff for our spring and
summer activities to offer you the best seasonal opportunities and experiences, while providing the unsurpassed customer
service you’ve grown to expect.
Let your Parks & Recreation Department provide “Your Gateway to a Better Life in Cranberry Township”.
• Are you looking to get fit and healthier this year? You
will find a plethora of fitness, wellness, and fun programs
in this guide. If you have suggestions, contact Jason
Mentel, our Facilities and Program Coordinator.
• Are you thinking about swim lessons and/or Waterpark
memberships? Do you have a child ready for
Preschool? This information can be found throughout
this guide, or you can contact Val Murphy, our Recreation
Program Coordinator.
• Do your kids love the outdoors? We have summer
camps running June through August. Check
out the options in this guide and register

Activity Coordinators, Josh Andree and Brian Perry.
• Do you need Before-School or After-School assistance
with your children? This information is also available in
this guide, or you can contact Mark Rieder, another of our

be signed in and out each day. ID must be shown to pick up
your child. Regular camp hours are 8:30AM-4:30PM. There is a

The Counselor in Training or (CIT) program has been created to
give those kids who are too old to be campers and too young to
apply to become a counselor the ability to still enjoy a summer
at camp. They will learn what it takes to be in a leadership role
like a counselor’s position. They will help assist the camp staff
with the everyday operations as well as getting the opportunity

Making a Difference in our Community
Peter Gemperle, an Eagle Scout
candidate from Boy Scout Troop 403, completed his Eagle Project for Cranberry Township Parks
and Recreation. This project relocated the Sunrise Rotary gazebo closer to the Municipal Center in
2013. Residents of the Passavant Retirement Community, Sherwood Oaks Retirement Community
and guests throughout the area will now have a better experience at the annual summer concert
series in the gazebo, thanks to his efforts along with fellow scouts, troop leaders, friends, family,
Cranberry Township Parks & Recreation, and Public Works. Over 250 hours of volunteer service
hours were performed in conjunction with this Eagle Scout project. Thank you for making a difference!

OPEN WATER SCUBA DIVER
The PADI Open Water Diver course is the world’s most popular
scuba course, and has introduced millions of people to the adventurous diving lifestyle. It provides the foundation for further
scuba training, while staying fun and accessible.
DISCOVER SCUBA
The Discover Scuba Diving program allows you to breathe underwater for the first time, an often exhilarating experience, using full scuba gear! Under the direct supervision of an instructor in a pool environment, you can try on scuba gear, and get a
feel for what scuba diving is like. A professional instructor will
introduce you to the basics during a single three hour session
beginning in the classroom and concluding with an actual dive
in the Cranberry Waterpark pool. You may then continue with
the Open Water Diver Certification class beginning in July.
You’ll learn the knowledge and skills necessary to become a
fully certified Scuba Diver. The class will meet for 5 sessions
with a classroom seminar and pool dive each session. All equipment is provided for the pool dives and the text is included in
the cost of the program. Four additional dives in an open water environment are required for PADI certification. These will be
scheduled through the instructor. Participants must be able to
swim 8 lengths of the pool, tread water for 10 minutes and be in
good health. After you’re certified you will be qualified to dive all
around the world.
