On behalf of the Board of Directors, we are proud to announce
that Orange Regional Medical Center is changing the face of
healthcare in the Hudson Valley. After many years of planning,
our new hospital project is on schedule and is set to open on
August 5, 2011.
As the first new hospital in New York State in over 20 years, it
will provide you and your family state-of-the-art service, offer
advanced medical technology and equipment and serve as an
anchor for a regional healthcare delivery system. Over the past
few years, support for the new hospital from the community,
donors, elected officials and government agencies has truly
been tremendous. All involved have understood that, despite
seemingly insurmountable obstacles, building a new hospital
was vital to the health of our region.

Excitement is building as we prepare to close our Arden Hill and
Horton campuses this summer and open the new hospital in the
Town of Wallkill. Right now, we’re preparing the new facility to
make it a shining jewel in regional healthcare. I think you’ll be

The new hospital on East Main Street is very close to the
intersection of I-84 and Route 17 and conveniently positioned
between the two old hospitals. At the new facility, doctors,
nurses and clinical experts will be able to care for you using the
latest equipment available. You’ll find private patient rooms with
new furnishings, a larger emergency room, high-tech operating
rooms and more - all in a beautiful, warm and inviting setting.
I’ve often said that the new hospital is a project of miracles.
Many people doubted that it could ever be built. Thanks to
the leadership of our Board and the support of physicians,
employees, volunteers and the community, I can emphatically
say ‘miracles do come true!’

State-Of-The-Art Emergency Department
O
range Regional’s new, high-tech Emergency
Department (ED) is designed to streamline the
process of an emergency room visit. To ensure rapid
and effective treatment, our new ED provides 50 private and
spacious treatment rooms. Five ED rooms are designed to
eventually offer Level II trauma services and two rooms are
devoted to care for pediatric patients. For added convenience,
the ED has its own CT scan and X-ray which accelerates your
emergency visit. The ED is located near 12 operating rooms,
as well as the cardiac catheterization labs where life-saving,
emergency angioplasty will be performed. We feel confident
you’ll like our spacious, welcoming and contemporary waiting
area featuring a flat screen television, music, security station
and an enclosed child’s playroom.

For emergencies that take place during adverse weather
conditions, you can take comfort in knowing that our three
indoor, heated ambulance bays will provide you, or your loved
one, a safe and secure transfer into our facility, protected from
the elements. For major emergencies, a helipad (heated to melt
snow and ice) is located just outside the ED.

ecause we know how important the newest addition is to your family, Orange Regional has
dedicated its entire sixth floor of your new hospital to the new Rowley Family Birthing Center.
Here, new moms can deliver in a warm, safe and comfortable environment while having the
privacy they need during this special time. To ensure the needs of mother and baby will be met in
complete comfort and privacy, the Birthing Center includes a high-tech infant security system, private
labor/delivery/recovery rooms, two C-section operating rooms and a cozy 10-bassinet nursery. In
addition, there is a Level 2 Neonatal Intensive Care Unit (NICU) in development. Our private postpartum
rooms were designed with relaxation and comfort in mind. Each room includes a scenic view, individual
thermostat, HDTV, private bathroom with a soothing shower, and the convenience of a sleeper chair for
partners. A family sleep room equipped with a private bathroom and shower is also available.

hildren are our future, so at Orange
Regional, we take a family-centered
approach to healthcare. Located on the
fifth floor, our new dedicated Pediatric Unit is
an inviting, comfortable and secure unit. Our
kids-only procedure room is furnished with
specialized pediatric equipment to ensure your
child receives the proper care. The Unit will be
staffed with Certified Pediatric Nurses, who are
friendly, experienced and compassionate. Private
rooms feature age-appropriate décor and have
bathrooms and individual thermostats, just like
home. To add cheer to the healing process, kids
will enjoy HDTV and portable gaming consoles
upon request. Our colorful, cheerful pediatric
playroom also provides young ones a place to
relax, enjoy games
and be creative if
they’re feeling up to

MAY 1908 - Goshen Emergency Hospital was
founded by a group of Goshen women. The
three-bed hospital opened in a small two-room
apartment above the Tuthill Plumbing Store on
West Main Street.
MARCH 1929 - Horton Memorial Hospital merged with
Thrall and opened at 60 Prospect Avenue with 76 beds and
amenities such as telephones in every room. The hospital was
the result of a $600,000 bequest given by Eugene Horton in
order to construct a hospital in the memory of his mother

hroughout Orange Regional’s history, philanthropy has played
an integral role in its development. Sustained community
support, through fundraising, has enabled the expansion of
facilities, the addition of cutting edge technology and the launch of
new services.
Today, philanthropy continues to make an impressive contribution.
We challenged the Orange Regional Medical Foundation to increase
the level of fundraising and are happy to report that we raised an
unprecedented $21 million for the new hospital. I wish to thank all
of our contributors for supporting Orange Regional Medical Center
through the Building for Excellence Capital Campaign. The generosity
demonstrated by our donors is extraordinary and we are very grateful
for their commitment.
We are not finished yet. The Campaign is ongoing through 2011
to ensure that everyone who wishes to donate to this exciting and

Paving the Way
On April 26, 2011, Fred Kummer,
President and CEO of HBE, the designbuild firm hired to design, engineer and
construct the new Orange Regional Medical
Center, delivered the keys to the hospital
Board of Directors. Born at Horton Hospital
in 1929, Mr. Kummer celebrated his 82nd
birthday on April 23 (coincidentally, the
same day that construction was completed
on the new facility). Having noted a very
special connection to this project, Mr.
Kummer had assured Orange Regional
that the construction of the new hospital
building would be completed on his
birthday, as scheduled. Mr. Kummer is a
man true to his word.

recovery. Each spacious room is beautifully designed with warm and contemporary hues
of blue, green and yellow that balance natural wood tones. Our designers added touches
of home including rich wood accents and carpeted hallways which helps keep noise to
a minimum. We’ve also adorned the facility with original paintings by renowned local
artists. Plenty of windows allow natural light to fill the rooms and offer scenic views of the
countryside. Patient rooms have a private bathroom and shower, individual thermostats,
HDTV and even room service. We feel confident you’ll like what you see!

How Electronic Health Records Benefit You
At Orange Regional Medical Center, Electronic Health Records (EHR) provide
the right information, for the right person, in the right format, all in real
time. Our electronic health record (EHR) system allows clinicians to create an
electronic health record, or chart, for each patient. Currently available at both
the Horton Campus and Arden Hill Campus, these records will be accessible
throughout the new hospital and in physician offices. Electronic health records
provide enhanced patient safety, improved healthcare quality and outcomes,
help reduce medication errors and improve coordination of care.

Here in Our Community
Orange Regional is committed to raising the
standard of care for thousands of families who
call our community home. That’s why when we
relocate to the new hospital, so will our advanced
Peter Frommer, M.D. Heart Center. Our new,
comprehensive Cardiology Department will offer
cardiac rehabilitation conveniently located on the
main floor of the building. It will be accessible from
an Outpatient Center entrance. This beautiful area
features a state-of-the-art indoor rehabilitation
walking track and modern exercise equipment. Just
around the corner from the Cardiac Rehabilitation
Unit is a new cardiology treatment area including
echocardiogram, EKG and EEG testing. The new
hospital also will feature three cardiac catheterization
labs for elective and emergency angioplasty.

Cancer Center will open at the new
Orange Regional Medical Center on August 5,
2011. We will continue to offer you and your
loved ones the latest cancer fighting options,
procedures and equipment in a new, comfortable
setting. The Outpatient Infusion Center is
conveniently located on the main floor accessible
through the Outpatient Center entrance. The
spacious Center offers a comfortable setting for
outpatient services including chemotherapy/
biotherapy, antibiotics and blood transfusions.
Occupying an entire wing on the second
floor is the new, Inpatient Oncology Unit. The
compassionate care in this unit is delivered by a
dedicated staff including: exceptional surgeons,
medical oncologists, oncology-certified nurses,
diagnostic radiologists, pathologists and other
cancer specialists.
