Saint Columbkille Parish School June 2015 SPIRIT On May 6th, the Saint Columbkille community gathered to pay tribute to our heavenly mother, Mary. The second graders dressed in their First Holy Communion attire and processed in with our eighth graders. The second graders’ voices lilted a song in honor of Mary. Then eighth graders Sarah Armbruster and Dillion Gallagher crowned Mary. Eighth graders Lauren Dufalla, Jake Szaniszlo, Emma Melynyshyn and Dominic Roschival rounded out the Tribute to Mary court. Our many volunteers were also blessed and thanked for their countless hours of service to Saint Columbkille School children! “We give thanks to God for all of you, remembering you in our prayers, unceasingly calling to mind your work of faith and labor of love and endurance in the hope of our Lord Jesus Christ.” (1Thessalonians 1:2-3) SCHOLARSHIP CONGRATULATIONS to our Class of 2015 who graduated on May 26, 2015. By their faith and knowledge, the students met the requirements of Saint Columbkille and the State of Ohio. The mass was concelebrated by all of our priests and Father O’Connor awarded the diplomas to the eighth graders. Andres, Jr. Scholarship - $1,000 Arianna Marich We wish our graduates much success as they begin their high school journeys! May God Bless you always! Kudos to Stephanie Neff who won Second Place in the LifeWorks Ohio Respect Life Art, Essay and Poetry Contest. Stephanie won second place for her poem. The contest is open to all Catholic schools in the northeast Ohio area. Terrific effort and results! Sixth grader Danica Hruby ran in the 10K RiteAid Marathon and placed 5th for all 12 year old girls. She ran 8.33 minute miles! This is quite an accomplishment for her age group. RACE WELL DONE!! June 2015 St. Columbkille School Newsletter Page 5 Mini Olympics Saint Columbkille School children gathered for friendly competition and good sportsmanship at the annual Mini Olympics! We began the day with a prayer and the raising of the flag and Pledge of Allegiance. Our recent 8th grade alumni came to run the games and parent volunteers aided in making sure everyone stayed injury free. The overall results for 2015 were: 1st place- The ORANGE team; 2nd place—The RED team; 3rd place—The YELLOW team and 4th place—The BLACK team. It was a beautiful, sunshiny day and a wonderful time was had by all. Thank you to Mr. Andexler for organizing the event! Six boxes of supplies were collected. The collection was organized by 6th grader Stephanie Neff. Thank you to Stephanie and to all who donated to this worthy cause. SCS Community Park Dedication 8181 Avery Rd, Suite C Broadview Heights, OH 44147 216-965-5425 June 9th was a lovely evening! Instead of breaking ground for the Saint Columbkille Community Park on the Feast of Saint Columbkille, we were dedicating the completed park!!! Father O’Connor blessed the Celtic cross and the Saint Columbkille statue, as well as blessing the park itself. Afterwards a reception was enjoyed by the attendees. Please come to the park to reflect and pray over the summer months. It is truly a gem on our Saint Columbkille grounds. THANK YOU to all you made this park a reality. June 2015 St. Columbkille School Newsletter Page 7 SPECIAL THANKS TO: Mr. and Mrs. Brokaw who purchased Holy Family and Guardian Angel statues for the school courtyard. They are a beautiful addition to the area and will be enjoyed by the school children and staff. Mrs. Jan Mamich who donated $1,000 for the Jon Peterson Scholarship program. The money is being used to purchase a three year online reading program that all the students in the program will benefit from using to improve their reading skills. Miss Lauren Rogers for her years of service to Saint Columbkille School. The entire school community wishes you many blessings as you get married and begin a new chapter in your teaching journey.
