President’s Message
It does take a village...and I mean a village. As
many of you know by now, I am coordinating a
unique dental symposium for Female Dentists on
Friday November 13th entitled “Women- How Do We
Do It All?” There are so many individuals who have
been helpful in the development and implementation
of this program that I need to pause and thank them
– they are my village.
Dr. Joanne Burrell
Dr. Howard Fraiman
Presents
Dentistry's
Digital Revolution
Dentistry, like the world we live in, is
changing from “analog” to “digital”. We
are in the midst of a digital revolution and it is
happening quickly. Digitization will impact all
aspects of dentistry, including but not limited
to: radiography, treatment planning, chair
side digital impressions, cad/cam crowns,
etc. This program will serve to introduce
several areas of the emerging technology and
its capabilities.
Dr. Fraiman graduated from Pennsylvania
School of Dental Medicine in 1991 as part of
the Biodental Program with Rennsselaer
Polytechnic Institute. He received his degree
in Periodontics in 1993 and graduated from
the Perio-Prosthodontic program in 1994.
Dr. Fraiman maintains private practices in
Philadelphia and Paoli. He teaches Perio-Pros
as part of the Periodontics Department at
Penn. He has lectured on topics including
Implants and implant site development.
Cocktails - 6 PM • Dinner - 7 PM
Meeting - 8 PM
See page 15 for Registration form.
Benco Dental has been a strong supporter of
Woman in Leadership with the Lucy Hobbs Project. The nonprofit component
is underwriting a majority of the cost of the speaker, coordinating the
registration and assisting with promotion of the program. Ms. Amanda Ankner,
Business Innovation Project Coordinator, has worked with our team to
coordinate the speaker, the CE and registration. Many thanks to my long
standing dental supply representative, Joan McGowan Schofield; she was
the inspiration behind this program and has actively participated in every step
of the planning.
Benco has partnered with our host facility, Abington Jefferson Health, to
coordinate this event. Abington has always been dear to me. I did my GPR
residency here over 25 years ago and just have never left. The administration has
always been very supportive of the dental division and I greatly appreciate their
support of this program. Meg McGoldrick, President of Abington Jefferson
Health, has graciously donated the venue and supplied a team to coordinate the
project. My team – my village at Abington - is extensive: Beth Ann
Neill,
Corporate
Director
of
Public
Relations
and
Marketing; Barbara Hartnett, Vice President of Physician Services; John
Phillips, Physician Relations Manager; Barbara Vasco, Marketing and
Communications Manager; Millie Luciano, Operations Manager Continuing
Medical Education;
Michael Leibrandt, technical support; and
Julianne Domm, graphic design artist. Each of these individuals has offered
guidance and support in this project.
The Attendings of the Abington Dental Division have been my colleagues,
mentors and friends for 25 years. Under the leadership of Dr.
Steve Moriconi, Chief and Director of the Dental Division, our GPR program
has grown from two residents with three dental operatories to four residents and
seven operatories. I am not the clinician I am today without the guidance of the
many individuals on staff at Abington. The division has graciously agreed
to financially support this event as well.
My village extends to the MBDS executive board. When I first proposed this
idea, they were fully supportive of this venture offering guidance and financial
assistance as necessary. Dr. Amanda Hemmer has been instrumental in the
expansion of the program to include two leaders from the ADA as our opening
speakers: Dr.’s Feinberg, ADA President, and O’Loughlin, CEO of the
ADA. This is Amanda’s culminating project for the ADA Institute for Diversity
Program. I am so honored to have worked with her on this event.

Join your fellow Dentists of MBDS by Participating in the
Halloween Candy Buy-Back Program!
Halloween is just around the corner and the Montgomery
Bucks Dental Society (MBDS) would like to invite you to
participate in an easy, philanthropic and fun program that
keeps cavity-causing candy away from our patients. To
participate in the MBDS Candy Buy-Back Program, you
simply offer to purchase excess candy from your patients after
Halloween for a nominal amount and then MBDS will help
you donate the candy to charity. Setting up a Candy BuyBack Program in your office is a wonderful way for your
office to promote oral health, engage with your younger
patients and join the MBDS in helping Operation Gratitude.
Interested in participating? We collected these tips from past
participants to make it easy for you:
1. Select a date and time to collect and weigh the candy at
your office.
• We recommend selecting a day during the week
following Halloween
• If you choose a limited time period (~2.5 hours), you
can turn it into an event at the office
2. Decide how much you will pay for each pound of candy
surrendered.
• We suggest paying each patient $1 for every pound of
treats delivered
• Make sure to set a per-person limit (perhaps five
pounds)
• Provide a dental gift bag to participants and/or hold a
raffle for an exciting prize
3. Announce the MBDS Candy Buy-Back Program to your
patients!
• E-blast your patients
• Promote the program on your office’s Facebook page
and website
• Invite adults to donate the leftover candy that they did
not give out
4. Create your own in-office signage to promote the event
• Check out our website for some ideas from other MBDS
dentists
5. Day of the Event: Be Prepared!
• Make sure you have all the supplies you need: Scale to
weigh the candy; Plenty of $1 bills; Staff available to
track the results; and Camera to take photos
• Box the collected candy as it’s collected (…start saving
your dental supply boxes now for packing!)
• Consider wearing costumes during the collection to add
some fun and spirit to the event
• Memorialize the event on social media by posting
pictures and also submit them to MBDS to be included
in our next newsletter and on our website
6. Join MBDS in donating the collected candy!
• MBDS will be collecting candy amassed by our dentists.
The collection locations will be announced in a future
bulletin and by email blast. Collection will be some time
in mid - November.
• MBDS will be donating the collected candy to Operation
Gratitude
• If you would prefer to donate the candy directly, dentists
are encouraged to find a local Liberty United Service
Organization (www.LibertyUSO.org) to drop off their
collected candy
7. Make sure to thank your patients for their participation
and announce how many pounds of candy were
collected by your office and MBDS dentists for
Operation Gratitude
We Need Volunteers for the MBDS Candy Buy Back Initiative
How Can You Help?
• We are looking for offices in Montgomery and Bucks Counties to volunteer to be "drop off
stations" for the collected candy the week of November 8th.
• We also need volunteers to assist picking up and delivering the candy on Saturday November
14th to Dr. Angel Stout's office. Her office will serve as a consolidation packing area. From
her office we plan to drop the candy off at the USO at the Philadelphia airport.
Please contact Joe Persichetti at [email protected] to volunteer!
Thank you in advance for your help!

Dear Friends,
On behalf of the entire Chess family, I would like to say THANKS
for all the Love and Support all of you have shown Greg’s Family over the
past two months. I think it goes without saying that Greg touched a lot
of us and his spirit will be with us eternally.
Over the past few weeks, some of his closest friends and I have thought
about how best to honor Greg and keep his memory alive. With that being
said, it is with great pride that I present: “The 1st Annual Greg
Chess Memorial Golf/Dinner/Celebration” - The date is
Friday, October 23rd at The Bucks Club, Jamison, PA
As many of you are aware, Greg was diagnosed with Multiple
Myeloma prior to marrying Robin and starting a family. Because of this,
Greg was unable to obtain life insurance, so all funds that are raised that
day will directly benefit Robin, Gavin and Dylan.
If you are not a golfer, we will be having a dinner and silent auction
that evening and would love to have you and any additional guests attend
and remember Greg. All information regarding the day can be found at:

Seminar #3, Friday, January 22, 2016
Dr. Lou Graham - “A Sound Recession-Proof Restorative/Hygiene Practice: Integrating the Team
and Creating Value”
ABOUT THIS COURSE:
The essence of this course is all about integrating “your” practice’s philosophical approach to dentistry amongst your entire team allowing
for seamless interactions. Your initial exams, periodic exams, periodontal exams, oral cancer screening exams, x-ray protocols, diagnostic approaches, and communication skills all must be consistent to allow your practice to maximize value. This course will highlight a day in practice, demonstrating some of the latest techniques and truly maximize what you can be doing each day to become a recession proof office. This
course is recommended for doctors and their hygienists, or should I say, hygienists…bring your doctors!
COURSE OBJECTIVES:
• Understanding what “your” philosophy is.
• How hygiene growth is the number 1 driver to overall growth and the essence of your practice.
• Why the “wheel” defines consistency and communication between the doctor and hygienist.
• Understanding the latest in diagnostics for the hygienist/doctor team and why these new technologies provide you with so much
more information and equally, allow you to show and deliver far more diagnostically driven outcomes.
• Combination treatment plans that integrates the hygienist and the doctor.
• Prevention at every age, customizing your protocols.
• The latest in rinses, toothpastes, gels and how to again treat areas from chronic halitosis to refractory periodontal patients and so much more!
• Specific casework on patients 65 and beyond…They are key to your growth!.
DR. LOU GRAHAM is an internationally recognized lecturer extensively involved in continuing education for dental professionals. His lectures focus on incorporating current clinical advancements through “conservative dentistry.” He emphasizes the same concepts he practices: dental health diagnosis, treatment plans
for medically compromised patients, conservative treatment, cosmetic dentistry, and customized approaches to periodontal care, implants and laser dentistry. Dr.
Graham is the founder of the Catapult Group, a continuing education company whose philosophy and programs use contemporary, interactive formats to integrate time-proven conservative dentistry with 21st century materials and techniques. Dr. Graham is a published author in many leading national and international
dental journals. He is a member of the American Dental Association, American Academy of Cosmetic Dentistry, Academy of General Dentistry, Chicago Dental Society and Illinois Dental Association. Dr. Graham is a graduate of Emory Dental School. He is the former Dental Director of the University of Chicago’s Department
of Dentistry. He enjoys providing dental care at his multi-specialty private practice group, University Dental Professionals, in Chicago, IL – Hyde Park..

President’s Message
Continued from Page 1
With every project, we often need outside assistance to support
our venture. TD Bank has elected to financially support this
venture. We greatly appreciate their support on this project and
other educational opportunities within our dental community.
Special thanks to the Office Manager of the Dental Clinic,
Johanna Pierson, who is our Technological Support Individual
for the event. She has been one of my “go to people” for this event.
My village is further supported by my office manager Jeannie
Dingly and Marla Lohbrandt. They are probably tired of hearing
about this project and look forward to November 14th !!
