I-ACT Policy Statements:
I-ACT recommends the use of currently registered FDA equipment and only disposable speculums, rectal tubes, or rectal nozzles.
However, should the Therapist use reusable speculums, these speculums should, at a minimum, be autoclaved for sanitation and
cleanliness (30 minutes). Additionally, the autoclave unit must be tested and inspected by competent authority at least four times per
year- maintain documentation. (Under NO conditions should a disposable speculum or rectal tube be reused).
I-ACT recognizes the FDA classifies equipment used to instill water into the colon through a nozzle inserted into the rectum to
evacuate the contents of the colon into three distinct classes; Class I (Enema Kits), Class II and Class III are (Colon Irrigation
Systems). Follow the guidelines of your manufacturer, as approved by the FDA for the type of equipment (devices) you are using.
Make no claims as to the use of your device other than those approved by the FDA.
The main differences between Class I and Class II devices:
• Class 1 devices do not have any safety features and manufacturers of Class I devices may not have any third party oversight as they do not have to comply with the good manufacturing practices that are required of Class II manufacturers.
• More specifically, the code of federal regulations CFR 876.5210 & 876.5220 describe the differences between the Class
I and the Class II devices. From that regulation, a Class I device does not include “colonic irrigation devices”. A “colon
irrigation device” is a Class II device which in part is described as: “The system is designed to allow evacuation of the
contents of the colon during the administration of the colonic irrigation.
• The FDA requires Class II devices to be sold on or at the order of a physician or health care practitioner. This may be
different in each state.
Additionally there are two areas of concern with the use of a Class I device:
• The first area of concern is the safety of the consumers, your clients. Since the Class I device does not have to comply
with good manufacturing practices there are no safeguards during the manufacturing of your equipment. The Class I
manufacturer does not have to maintain records, nor are they inspected as thoroughly or as rigorously as a Class II manufacturer which also reduces the safeguard for the consumer. By definition, the Class I device is an enema kit and cannot
have any safety features that might protect the consumer. Class I devices consist “of a container for fluid connected to
the nozzle” and does not allow for the container to be hard plumbed to the city water system. There are no back flow
prevention systems to preclude the back flow of the effluent into the tubing. Additionally, without the requirement to
follow the good manufacturing practices there are no guarantees that the equipment can be cleaned, disinfected and
sanitized in a manner that can guarantee there is no transmission of disease to the client. Remember, our Code of Ethics
states, “the health, welfare, and comfort of our clients is our primary concern”.
• The second area of concern is the potential for inappropriate advertising. If you are using a Class I device, you may not
market that as a colonic irrigation device as it clearly is an enema kit.
Although I-ACT is not aware of any laws that preclude you from assisting an individual with an enema, I-ACT does want you to consider upgrading your equipment to the equipment that provides the greatest safeguards to the public. In this profession, that would be
equipment marketed as Class II devices.
Remember that I-ACT strongly recommends that all I-ACT members use FDA registered Class II devices or devices equivalent to
Class II devices regulated by the appropriate agency in your country. Purchase equipment at your own risk. Ensure you are in compliance with your local, state, federal and country guidelines. Ensure that equipment you purchase is cleared for use in your country.
I-ACT recognizes there are two distinct types of colon irrigation systems; open and closed systems. However, it is I-ACT policy that
the colon hydrotherapist / technician is always in attendance / or is immediately available to the client throughout the session. The
degree of assistance is to be in compliance with the instructions of the manufacturer of the equipment as registered with the FDA, and/
or as directed by a physician.
The policy on insertion is to follow the instruction of the referring physician; the guidelines of the manufacturer as approved by the
FDA; or the directives from the authority of your city, county, state, or country ordinances.
I-ACT recommends that you do not put the initials (CT) for colon hydrotherapist after your name, write it out in full. According to most
state laws, putting initials after your name is not allowed unless you are licensed or have a degree from an accredited professional school.
Advertising copy which states or implies that colon hydrotherapy can treat any disease, promise cure for any disease, or that makes
unsubstantiated medical claims SHALL NOT be used.

Letter to the Members from the I-ACT President: 2011 Membership Contest
Pam Craig, B.Sci.
Dear I-ACT Very Important People (Our members):
What a great Board meeting we had in February during our face-to-face
meeting. The Board spent time developing the 5 year long range plan for
our association, and I am glad to tell you that we are positioned for a
fantastic five years.
When we speak about the I-ACT Board, I want to remind you that this is
the year we have our elections. Our By-Laws require that we have elections
every 2 years (during the odd years). If you have ever considered running
for office, then give this some special thought. Our nomination guidelines
are listed on page 5 of this quarterly. This is a perfect opportunity to let
your voice be heard. Run for office and help us plan for the future of our
profession.
One of the things that we have been working on is a wonderful Convention which is planned
for Portland, OR. During this Convention, our Board meeting will be on Monday and
Tuesday (June 20 & 21, 2011). You are welcome to attend - remember you can attend any
meeting that I-ACT has, it is your Association. On Wednesday (June 22), we will have our
committee meetings, and the mandatory School / Instructor meeting. The speakers start on
Thursday, June 23, 2011. We have some outstanding speakers scheduled and we hope to see
you there. Look on page 11 for the List of Speakers.
Friday will be a special day for our Convention. We heard you when you said you wanted
more workshops, so all day Friday is a Colon Hydrotherapy workshop. It will be hosted by Dr.
Yong, with assistance from Brenda Watson and Russell Kolbo. See topics on page 11. After
the workshop, we have set up a Dinner Cruise on the Portland Spirit. Come join us as we have
dinner and cruise through downtown Portland.
Win Admission to the 2011 Convention! What to Do: • Find colon therapists • Tell therapists about I-‐ACT • Invite them to join I-‐ACT • Keep track of your referrals (in case they fail to mention you) We, your Board, are committed to bringing you great educational opportunities during our
conventions; and we also hope you visit with your peers, and visit the Vendor area to see all
of the new innovations to help you in your profession.
We hope to see you at the convention.
If you can’t make the convention, please attend one of the Regional meetings in your area.
Look on page 22 of this quarterly for our list of upcoming Regional meetings, or go to the
I-ACT web site and check them out.
Finally, we are using our E-Blast system to keep in touch with you. If you have not provided
your email address to the office, please do so immediately. Our E-Blasts notify you when
Regional meetings will be held; you are informed of I-ACT policy changes; and, when we
hear of job opportunities that are available, we notify our members to help you stay gainfully
employed.
As you can see, we are working hard to help you build your business and be successful in our
profession.
The top recruiters of new members joining prior t0 April 30, 2011, win paid admission for the 2010 convention. (Admission only, travel expenses excluded.) Two winners will be drawn from contestants who have a minimum of two new members. We know that there are colon therapists in your community who are not I-‐ACT members. You will find them in the yellow pages, websites, market bulletin boards, local papers, etc. We hope you have a superb Spring and sew the seeds of greater success for the remainder of
2011... See You in Portland!
Contact them with a warm I-‐ACT welcome, share your experiences and the benefits of membership, and invite them to join this year. Truly,
Keep track of your referrals. Let’s build this membership to a record high! Pam Craig ([email protected])

I-ACT Quarterly Spring 2011
From The Desk Of: Bekki Medsker, ND, D.Ch.
NBCHT President Elect & Acting President
4/1/2011
To: All Members of NBCHT
We hope you are having a great 2011.
Since this is an odd year, our By-Laws require that we have the elections for our Board of Directors. You can
look on page 7 of this quarterly to see what is required to participate on the Board. The two Board at Large
positions are open, along with the Vice President and Secretary/Treasurer positions. If you would like to serve,
please send in your nomination as required on page 7.
Next, we are continuing to move forward in our efforts to strengthen our profession. In the last newsletter, we
mentioned our ongoing work with SMT. This five year plan should result in updating our New Exam and completing our Certification through the credentialing arm of the Institute for Credentialing Excellence (ICE).

“Colon irrigation devices are prescription devices and only a practitioner licensed

We will keep you advised on the progress of this effort.
Now that you understand what we have been doing and where we are headed, we need your help. If you know
a colon hydrotherapist that is not certified by the NBCHT, then get them to join the NBCHT and get certified.
The new applicant must be at the Intermediate level of Certification with I-ACT and they must be using FDA
registered equipment.
They should review the NBCHT Handbook that is available on our web site (NBCHT.org). They then fill out
the application and apply to take the NBCHT Certification Exam.
When they complete and pass the exam, they will be certified by the NBCHT. Remember, the new NBCHT
Exam can be taken at any time, in every state and almost every country around the world. The NBCHT Exam
is no longer given at the Convention
We hope to double our membership in the next two years.
Thank you for helping us grow our Association.
Sincerely,

Bodywork with Colon Hydrotherapy
There are a vast number of colon hydrotherapists who address diverse aspects of my profession.
Many are about diet while others cleansing with weight loss, and countless more encourage
products, but no one is addressing the foundation of mechanics and function; the root to sustain
change and equilibrium. If symptoms of the Large Intestine alone are our focus without
consideration to its origin, we miss the mark as facilitator and educator; at best we will only parallel
traditional medicine.
My experience with Colon Hydrotherapy began in 1973. As a Therapist, the concepts, relevance
and expanding bodywork which I pioneered from 1977~1982, currently and perpetually identified
as the original Bodywork with Colon Hydrotherapy, are the foundations that paved the way for
many more Colon Hydrotherapists and methods to follow. The two presentations I facilitated at the
2000 and 2001I-ACT conventions demonstrate this account and establish a history of knowledge
and skill.

Check around and choose the best policy for you. As other options become available, we will let you know. If you hear
of anything let us know.
I trust this letter finds you well and prosperous in this new year. As President of the North Carolina Colon
Hydrotherapy Safety Association, I would like to bring you up to date on the status of the Association and
our Bill. As you know, this has been a very long process for us. However, we have accomplished more
toward licensing in that time than is customary for obtaining licensure. Licensing is a very detailed and
involved process which began with forming an association right up to presenting our case before multiple
committees in the House/legislation in North Carolina, and a great deal of details and work in between.
As it stands, our Bill is unable to move forward at this time. The ultimate reason of course being the lack of
funds to pay our attorney/lobbyist to continue through this session. Regardless of this set back, we did not
come this far to give up yet! The Association has a plan to carry the licensure forward to final success. Our
goal is to regroup as therapists state wide, first and foremost.
Our first step in regrouping is to fill some seats within the Association. If you are interested in filling a seat,
please contact me directly. Once this step is completed, we will be sending out invitations to all therapists
to participate in our licensure process. This year we are not able to proceed, so there will be no dues
collected. When we resume our process for licensure, dues will become active and due again. Fund raising
will also go into full swing. We are continuing to accept any donations that are offered.
What we are focusing on at this time is filling the vacant seats in the Association. Please contact us if you
are interested. Until we have filled these seats, please hold any other questions regarding licensure.
In Health,
Darlene Holloway

Dear Friends…
For those of you not directly connected to the SHP family, I wanted to share the sad news of the passing
of our dear friend and colleague, Kathleen Kerchman, on October 29 th, 2010. Many of you remember her
from the AINH training class, her boundless energy at the last several I-ACT conventions or the Life
Mastery Programs.
Little did she know that her attendance at the American Institute of Natural Health back in 1991, would
change the lives of tens of thousands of people around the world.. Kathleen
always stated that "Professional Colon Hydro Therapy, SAVED my life and I want to share it with the
world". And share it she did. She estimated that between her practice in the Palm Springs area and her ten years traveling the
World with the "Tony Robbins Life Mastery Program" she had personally performed over 14,000 colon hydro therapy sessions. If you

were one those lucky individuals, you left feeling loved and cared for. She had the ability to stand up in front of thousands of people,
share her story of how Professional Colon Hydro Therapy changed her life and can change theirs as well.
In 2004, S H P and the American Institute of Natural Health were blessed to have her join our team as our Ambassador and the
Instructor of our Training Program. Kathleen firmly believed that a good Professional Colon Therapists have a thorough
understanding of how and why the body worked. She often referred to it as an "Orchestra, with each organ playing its own part, so
it can work together to make the whole" Kathleen did not cut corners or take short cuts. "Being a Colon Hydro Therapist is a
Professional Occupation". She knew her clients were coming to her for assistance in improving their health. She had absolutely no
tolerance for unprofessional behavior and heaven help you if you ever took your cell phone in the therapy room with you. Her clients
had her undivided attention. With all that said, I believe the most valuable lesson she taught everyone who knew her, was the ability

personal. It was her battle and she fought gallantly. My last conversation with her was planning the November class. I expressed my
concern for her, pushing herself to hard. She laughed "I plan on living until I'm 90...I have stuff to do" ... she had the best laugh ever.
Her husband shared with me her passing. Just as the sun was rising into the most beautiful sunrise just outside her

window, she very peacefully left us. I would expect nothing less than a spectacular and elegant exit from my dear friend.
The loss of such a dynamic and dedicated spokesperson will be felt not only by the SHP team directly, but throughout the entire
industry.
Kathleen's presence will continue on. We have worked diligently to continually improve the level of education available for colon
therapists. Our new Instruction Team of Health Care Professionals has been established and we are very proud of the new class
format and intermediate training levels. While she may not be lecturing from the podium, I know she will always be watching over
us.

UK Regional Meeting - April 2, 2011
Southern CA Regional Meeting - February 20, 2011
We had a total of 4 guests plus our speaker. The forms are all being faxed to you. Photograph attached.
Edwige did her level 2 exam and I am faxing over the test sheet. I had most of the people in the room assess her
presentation and these assessments are also in the fax bundle. We recommend a pass.
Kelly Hopley was one of the attendees. She said she had been an I-ACT member and currently has about 30 in her
association. She provided a useful input and her policies seem to be very similar to ours.
We had a great presentation from Dr Martin Quinn. He has been doing the research and has established
scientifically that constipation is the cause of most western diseases. He has articles about to be published in the
British medical journals with all the information and is anticipating a frosty reception as his theories interfere with
conventional thinking. He gave us a simple test for measuring transit times which, in the UK, are typically 48
hours (the sweet corn test). They should be around 12 hours. However he is not a colon hydrotherapist and is not
familiar with the benefits of our procedure. He did leave us with a copy of his presentation but, without his talk,
it is not easy to follow. It does contain many anatomical photos showing excessive nerve development caused by
constipation and gynaecological issues (He is also a gynaecologist). We all enjoyed the presentation; his research
is so much at the forefront of medical developments. He will be happy to speak again provided he is not in China
(where he is now a university professor).
The participants would prefer to have our next meeting on a Sunday. I did not offer any dates as you suggested
that you or someone
else from the Board
might combine a visit
with our next meeting.
Best regards
Marlin & Richard
France and I were honored to welcome
so many to our new office in Santa
Monica for the California/South West
Regional meeting. We had a great
meeting in spite of the rain. We had no
one testing at 8 am. The one that was
scheduled could not make it due to the
storm. We had 25 members and 3 non
members to open our meeting at 9 am.
It is interesting to see how many
came from so far, in a storm, to enjoy
interacting with our group. We had a
round table discussion that focused on
some client issues as well as positive
ways to reach out to new clients.
Many in attendance commented on the
importance of sharing knowledge and
the interaction opened up questions such as: Have you tapped the Senior Citizens Centers in your area? Many
of our members had several ideas and questions.
Connie Allred (I-ACT Founder) was one of our surprise guests and everyone was so glad to see her looking so
great. Connie was surprised by an old friend Andree Bergeron, a retired colon therapist from Montreal Canada,
who stopped in for lunch and a quick hello.
We had a wonderful lunch prepared by our own France Robert and a Raw food chef Tiffany Jablonski.
Everyone loved the food and the time to share and take pictures.
We had 3 guest speakers: Teri Nero. a retired RN, who has a vast knowledge on preventive care. She helped
us understand the effects of Western Medicines and what herbs to avoid, when the drugs are needed and how to
educate our clients.
Ray Dotolo, one of our manufactures, came to support our opening and was able to explain the importance of
water filtration in our business and so much more.
Dr. Bo Wagner, a well know colon therapist, and a man who has done a lot to bring Western and Eastern closer
together, spoke on mineral importance. Did you
know that you can’t absorb your vitamins if you are
too low in minerals?
With the little time left, I spoke about the upcoming
Convention. I hope they all got their reservations
made. We can’t wait to get together again. I
answered some questions on the new insurance and
other benefits of membership with I-ACT. We had
2 people sign up for I-ACT membership.
Thanks to everyone for all the help and support.

TO: I-ACT Instructors & Schools
Subject: Reminder of Mandatory School/Instructor Meeting and Notice of Change of Requirements for
FoundationLevelCertification
*** HOT*** IMPORTANT***REMINDER ***
There is a mandatory meeting (for ALL INSTRUCTORS & SCHOOLS) at the 2011 Convention. As you know,
Schools must attend this meeting every year and Instructors must attend once every two years. If you did not
attend the 2010 Convention you MUST attend this year. (Schools/Instructors are only excused for the most
dire of circumstances - if you don't make the Convention meeting, you must complete one of the Options that
the I-ACT Board approves, or you will be placed on Provisional Instructor status and may not train students).
This mandatory meeting will be on Wednesday, June 22, 2011 at 6:30 PM (to make it more convenient for our
schools and instructors).
Recently, the Board modified the requirements for certification for the Foundation Level. As you know the 100
hours must be taught in your classroom, not on line or not at the home of the student. It is a course that requires
100 hours taught at your center or school. Once training was complete, the student was required to send in
pictures of their facility (at a minimum, the waiting room, bathroom and colonic room), a blank copy of their
intake form, and a copy of their liability insurance (or a statement they do not wish to carry it).
Now, we must also have the completed school/instructor critique prior to finalizing their certification. This must
be sent from the office, filled out by the student and mailed back to the office. The Board does Not Want the
instructor or school to send in the critique; it is supposed to be an independent action sent by the student to help
ensure the training provided by the school or instructor is consistent with I-ACT policies and guidelines.
Please reflect this new requirement for certification in your copy of the Foundation level syllabi. Also, please
make sure you inform the student of this new requirement.
We look forward to seeing you at the convention.
Have a great day.
Sincerely,
Russell Kolbo, DC, ND

Regional Representative Corner - Lila Reader, RN, LMT
One of the benefits of attending the annual convention is the opportunity to meet members and connect with the
international community we have within I-ACT. It provides the groundwork to generate interest in participating on
committees and helping us meet the needs of our members. At convention over the last few years we have received
applications for open regional representative positions and are continuing to develop this area of our association.
We still have an opening in the Eastern Australian Region. If you are interested in applying, please contact the I-ACT
home office for a Regional Rep handbook and application.
Remember, you must be an I-ACT Instructor to apply.
The purpose of our Regional Meeetings are to pursue educational standards and legislation opportunities. Our focus
is on generating new members and encouraging our existing community of members. The effort of the reps and
participation of members making things happen, this is your association, so get involved - help us build I-ACT.
Do not forget, the new option - non-members may come to regional meetings and the $50 registration fee would be
applied to their membership application fee if they join I-ACT at the Regional meeting. This is only for new members.
We are asking you to continue this quest for growth at all of your meetings.
I-ACT also solicits your ideas to attract new members and continue the road to success for our profession.
2011 Challenges you to inspire others to join our team.
Have a great Spring, and we will see you in Portland, OR for our 2011 Convention!!!

Report on UK Colon Hydrotherapy Meeting - by Richard Armstrong - Continued
Continued from page 17
operate via CNHC (Complementary & Natural Healthcare Council www.cnhc.org.uk). There was a government paper
issued in February titled “In Pursuit of Excellence” indicating a policy of self regulation and only regulating when
necessary. We are not even on the horizon. However it was noted around the room that ARCH has worked hard and
got themselves well positioned if policies should change. It was also noted that the combined number of all the other
associations was approximately equal to ARCH. never mind the double counting.
There was then an almost stand up row between Roger and Galina. Galina was demanding disposable speculums and
Roger was insisting on re-using them. He would not go further than passing the message back for consideration.
A short discussion followed on our water regulations (WRAC). These require a break between all water supplies and
any dirty material, in our case faeces. A break is required because the regulation assume a worst possible scenario
when every one way or non-return valve fails at the same time and the water supply pressure turns negative. Gravity
fed systems pass. Otherwise a separate small independent tank should be provided with a suitable air break filling
arrangement to give gravity feed. Everyone in the UK and where similar rules apply should follow them. No
arguments on this one.
Another discussion was on myth busting. The objective here is to ensure that we are not making inaccurate claims
about the benefits of colon hydrotherapy and that we all agree on these items. Again basically non controversial as there
was a genuine desire to work to high ethical standards.
The next item was a definition of colon hydrotherapy. Everyone it seems has slightly different ideas. It was agreed we
should work to a common definition but this may well be unachievable - see below.
Some of those present, being so proud about their own training methods, offered to others the facility to attend training
courses as observers.
Discussion around the standards of training looked at both entry and exit levels. At this stage is was clear there will be
an insuperable difference at the entry level. ARCH wanting to take only those at a medical graduate or post graduate
level whilst others taking a more universal view. At the exit level everyone wants similarly highly competent and
skilled people only. Apple Pie. Although all our courses are different it would seem that the standards are close. I
offered the National Board’s exams and I think this was a little too early in these discussions.
On the question of open and closed systems I was in a minority. Roger and Anne-Lise stated a clear belief that only
closed systems could provide a proper colon hydrotherapy treatment. Glen extolled the virtues of closed systems
believing them to be better or going along with the flow. Galina, whilst agreeing in part was the only person defending
me and the I-ACT position. Galina pointed out to Roger that the ARCH definition of colon hydrotherapy applied
equally to open and closed systems. Roger was not pleased at this and may be tempted to change his definition.
The strength of the argument was so strong that it was even suggested open system therapist should be called colon
hygienists not therapists.
One useful item did come out of this discussion. Roger and the others agreed at least to consider re-wording their
websites and instructions to remove negatives. They will however still keep and state their preferences but in a positive
manner. A small but useful shift.
The “Enemy” was believed by Roger and Anne-Lise to be the beauty salon with an open system in a room at the back have a facial and a colonic - where the treatment is completely unsupervised, on an open system, and “Do it yourself”.
There have been a number of Groupon deals in London over the last few months offering colonics at unrealistically low
prices and getting enormous responses. So great that no small establishment could handle the clients professionally.
Report on UK Colon Hydrotherapy Meeting - by Richard Armstrong
I made some notes and comments as the meeting progressed and I will put them down in the order they happened. Many
are more for personal use and unsuitable for publication.
Roger Groos was the first to present and made a clear point of not being there as a result of requests from his members.
It seemed that he was saying he was there to do us a favour as well as just finding out what we were up to. He was
rather squashed on this one because Ian McDougal, backed up by Galina and the others, pointed out that the request for
this meeting came from the 100+ delegates at Galina’s one day conference. The delegates included members from all
associations and ARCH member were seen to be included in the request.
Roger said that ARCH became self governing in 1990, has 220 members and has 5 classes of membership. Members
not only have to have a suitable First Aid certificate but they are also checked for criminal records. They have held
conferences since 1992 and have a preference for closed systems I think preference is a gross understatement, they hate
open systems with a vengeance.
Anne-Lise Miller was next. She created her own association because she felt ARCH was not supporting her students
and clients sufficiently. Big is bad or could she just not get on with them? She claims 80 members and, I believe is
closely related to one of the closed system manufacturers. Support is via her website and the annual membership costs
£35 ($55) She organizes webinars and a newsletter. She has no committee and has set herself up as a Limited Company
(Corporation) entirely, she says, to support members.
Glen Taylor was next. He was representing Amy Saunders from G-PACT, who was unable to attend. You may
remember meeting him and his wife, Enid, at the convention in Las Vegas. He was keeping quiet about his relationship
with I-ACT. He said that G-PACT now has no formal relationship with Dotolo and also has no formal training process.
They have a small membership mainly within the USA.
My presentation for I-ACT mentioned our membership and our clear policy relating to open and closed systems. For
the sake of accuracy, not only did I read the actual document but at the end of my presentation I repeated the relevant
part of our Oath. I made clear our requirement for excellence and the 100 hour classroom course. I also mentioned
our independence but Roger did not pick this up. It was only much later during the discussion that this clicked. Galina
and Glen pick this one up and Roger was genuinely pleased to hear of our independence and separation from all
manufacturers.
Galina then presented RICTAT. She was the only one amongst us to use a powerpoint presentation for this purpose. She
has 47 members in the UK and 12 in the rest of the world. One of her charts showed that all except 2 of her members
use the closed system. In conversations she expressed a preference for the closed systems but, unlike any of the others,
did rigorously defend open systems as proper means of conducting colon hydrotherapy. She requires evidence of
training from registered schools prior to joining. Her association was founded on 1 July 2010 and it belongs to her.
General comments
Although the details of everyone’s training was slightly different, the general standards seemed all to be similarly high.
One association requires attendance at 20 sessions rather than our 25 and requires the student to conduct at least 10 of
the sessions. Another association requires at least 10 of the clients to be written up as case studies. I did not mention
what our requirements are. This may be an area that the education committee would like to consider and raise our
standards. Marlin and my personal opinions are that we should require the student to conduct at least 10 sessions and
that these should all be written up as case studies that could be submitted with the exam paper.
Roger (supported by others) made complaints about the websites and training of 2 schools representing I-ACT in the
UK.
In summary the meeting started in the inevitable rather cautious manner. As we progressed barriers came down and
there was a genuine feeling that we could and should work together. There remains antagonism about open systems.
The next item that was discussed was “Nightingale Collaboration” which is a whistleblowing organization trying to
cause trouble. We were all warned to be careful in our advertising and claims for the benefits of colon hydrotherapy.
Their representative will also apparently cold call and try to entrap the person who picks up the phone.
We finished with a group photograph which is attached and an agreement to hold another meeting on 5 July. I offered to
host it at Heavenly Spa and this was accepted.
Next the question of government regulation was raised. Roger said that he believes regulation is currently extremely
unlikely. Arch have been getting involved over the last few years with the leading groups in alternative medicine. They

Grievance Committee Report
GRIEVANCE EXAMPLES for your knowledge.
Obituary for Connie Blanchett
The Grievance Committee wants to share with you some scenarios of Grievances that have been recently filed by
clients and Colon Therapy students. The reason for including these examples in the Quarterly is so you can learn from
them, and hopefully make sure these types of things aren’t happening in your business.
Connie Blanchett, an I-ACT member since 6/19/2000, passed away on Friday, October 8, 2010. She was a great
servant to animals and to mankind. We send our condolences and prayers to her family and friends. She is at
peace, but will be missed by her I-ACT Family.
Grievance #1:
Student filed grievance with complaint of a teacher that is not teaching according to I-ACT Guidelines. Student
reported she was only taught 40 Hours not the 100 required by the syllabi.
The following obituary was extracted from www.argus-press.com/obituaries
Grievance #2:
Colon Hydrotherapist stops all sessions at exactly 30 minutes. A grievance was received when a client was
removed from the equipment at exactly 30 minutes, the client did not feel the session was complete. Therapist was
reported to be rude and unprofessional. Client reported they almost went to the emergency room.
Grievance #3:
Student filed grievance when instructor was reported to be threatening, emotionally abusive and provided bad
and innacurate information.
Grievance #4:
Client filed grievance on Colon Hydrotherapist that acted unprofessional by talking about the session with
clients boyfriend and having improper advertisement on their web site.
Grievance #5:
I-ACT member filed grievance about improper use of I-ACT logo, bad advertising and their information was
plagarized.
From the Grievance Committee. There are two sides of every complaint, and the grievance committee must determine
what is appropriate. You can see from the above grievances that it is vitally important that each of our members follow
the guidelines. One bad apple can ruin the whole apple cart. Make sure that you are not the bad apple that harms our
profession.
Also, it is a good policy to maintain that if a client goes to the trouble of writing into the Grievance Committee to
request a refund for their session, please refund their money.
All is in Divine Order.

Professional Standards & Ethics Committee - Report
Membership Committee Report - by Gail Naas
Membership Survey’s
Professional Standards & Ethics Committee Report Spring 2011 Greetings Members,
During 2009 the Education Committee with Board approval launched the Website
Compliance subcommittee. As we have shared in the past, the committees role was to
review members websites and online print advertising to gauge compliance with the
I-ACT Standard Operating Guidelines. This committee evolved into the Professional
Standards & Ethics Committee. Members have voluntarily joined this campaign of selfgoverence and have telephoned, emailed and sent text messages to alert us to areas of
concern. We are pleased to say those efforts are reaping rewards. An overwhelming
majority of members and nonmembers with infractions have responded and made
corrections once notified.
Every country has an agency equivalent to our Federal Trade Commission (FTC) with the
responsibility of developing, implementing and enforcing policy guidelines for
advertising medium. Additionally each state within the US has similar rules and
regulations to protect the public from fraudulent advertising.
Every Quarterly magazine we have encouraged our members to review their advertising
& marketing structures to make sure that no claims of cure or promises of health/beauty
improvements associated with colon hydrotherapy are present. We have encouraged
transparency with your clients regarding cost of services, expiration of series dates and
internal refund/cancellation policies. Recently we became aware of the advertising policy
changes announced in the UK, thanks to our member Velile Ndebele.
The Advertising Standards Authority (ASA) is the UK's independent regulator of
advertising across all media, including marketing on websites. They work to ensure ads
are legal, decent, honest and truthful by applying the Advertising Codes.
They have launched the first consumer ad campaign in the UK, to raise public awareness
of the ASA’s regulatory role. This cross-media campaign (press, outdoor, radio, online,
TV and cinema) also informs consumers that the ASA’s regulatory guidelines now cover
all marketing communication on a companies’ own websites.
What do the rules say?
“The Advertising Codes contain wide-ranging rules designed to ensure that advertising does
not mislead, harm or offend. Ads must also be socially responsible and prepared in line with
the principles of fair competition. These broad principles apply regardless of the product
being advertised.
In addition, the Codes contain specific rules for certain products and marketing techniques.
These include rules for alcoholic drinks, health and beauty claims, children, medicines,
financial products, environmental claims, gambling, direct marketing and prize
promotions. These rules add an extra layer of consumer protection on top of the existing
consumer protection law and aim to ensure that UK advertising is responsible.
The ASA administers the rules in the spirit as well as the letter, making it almost impossible
for advertisers to find loopholes or ‘get off on a technicality’. This common sense approach
takes into account the nature of the product being advertised, the media used, and the
audience being targeted.“ http://www.asa.org.uk/Advertising-Codes.aspx
