Students pursue coursework in
theology, English, performing
and visual arts, health and
physical education, math,
science, social studies, world
languages,
communication
technology,
and
global
communications and research.
Graduation is also incumbent
upon the successful completion
of an individually-designed
Senior Genesis community
learning project.
Recently, Magnificat was
selected as a premier Facing
History and Ourselves School
as part of Facing History’s
Innovative Schools Network. This group of 40 international schools provides rigorous interdisciplinary
content that promotes ethical awareness and responsible citizenship. Through the program, Magnificat
tangibly demonstrates its passion for helping students make essential connections between history and the
moral choices they confront in their own lives.
Students continuously learn in and outside the classroom to provide opportunities for young women to reach
their potential spiritually, emotionally, socially, and physically. Over 60 co-curricular student clubs, teams, and
activities allow Magnificat students to pursue individual areas of interest. Organizations offer opportunities for
students to explore their passions. The beautiful Center for the Performing Arts provides ample opportunities
to harness visual and performance art talents. Students can participate in 12 different sports: cross country,
field hockey, golf, soccer, tennis, volleyball, basketball, gymnastics, swimming, lacrosse, softball, and track
and field.
A unique and special characteristic of the Magnificat Community is its Campus Ministry Department. Campus
Ministry hosts events that allow girls to learn about themselves and the outside world in a spiritual manner.
Opportunities include service (food bank, Malachi House, tutoring), volunteering, immersion experiences (to
Cleveland, Appalachia, and Ecuador), and retreats.
Each year, the entire freshman class takes part in a retreat at Villa Maria, Pennsylvania, where the motherhouse
of the Sisters of the Humility of Mary is located. They spend the day learning the history of the congregation and

subsequently coming to understand
the roots of Magnificat High School.
In later years, students are able to
choose from a variety of other retreats
(Art, Literature & Film, Kairos, and
others), many of which also take place
at Villa Maria.
One of the most popular retreats
offered is the Kairos retreat. During
this retreat, a group of 30-40 girls
live in a residence hall for three days.
The girls participate in various leisure
activities and listen to several “witness”
accounts given by former Kairos
retreatants and faculty members. The
girls get to know one another on a deep, personal level during these reflections. The Kairos retreat is designed
to give girls a chance to move out of their usual world of schoolwork and extracurricular activities and take
the time to deepen their relationships with God.
Sophomore students are required to complete 30 volunteer service hours for their Sophomore Theology classes.
This is intended to encourage young women to lend a hand in their communities. Many sophomores will
complete their hours through service within the inner city areas of Cleveland, where poverty is a predominant
issue. Students take part in activities such as tutoring, serving food at food banks, Habitat for Humanity,
Arrupe (a neighborhood partnership program hosted by Saint Ignatius High School), Big Brothers, Big Sisters,
and visiting patients at hospice homes like Malachi House. Many girls continue to volunteer even after their
required service hours are complete.
PHYSICAL CAMPUS
Nestled in a quiet suburban neighborhood, Magnificat is conveniently located for easy access to the Greater
Cleveland area and surrounding communities. The campus itself provides excellent academic, arts, and
athletic facilities. A completely refurbished and fully equipped university-style Learning Center provides an

Center, and there are ample classrooms, conference rooms, and meeting places for students and faculty as well
as a new Student Commons. The state-of-the-art Magnificat Center for the Performing Arts features seating
for 1000 and serves the area community as well as the school. Athletics facilities include six tennis courts, an
all-weather track, gyms, and playing fields, all located on-campus.
