Fun, Fast and Finished in a
Day!
The Perfect complement to
your quilt!
This is the perfect project for
that large print or scenic fabric you just had to have but
have not been able to cut
up. Even a large panel can
be used. It highlights a large
print or picture while bringing in complimentary fabric
to create a unique design. It
can be made as a wall
hanging or a lap quilt, or add
a beautiful border to make it
bed size.
Looking for a complementary border for your finished
quilt top? This Celtic Knot
border adds the finishing
touch. Bring your finished
quilt top and together we will
design, size and add this
great looking border. Bring
any size quilt top and the
border will be sized to fit
your quilt.
Internationally renowned quilter, born in the
Tiger Hills area.
Saturday & Sunday $120


An 8”X10” colour copy of a landscape photograph that you would like to do- Enlarge this colour picture into black and white to the size you want
your wall hanging to be (Can be enlarged and photocopied on 8x11 sheets glued together-nothing fancy as this is for construction only)
Study your picture to determine color of fabrics needed
Good fabric choices are hand dyes, batiks, mottled fabric, anything but prints -the calmer your fabric the more serene your piece will be. Look for
graduations of color –especially for sky and water. You need darker hues for the top of the sky compared to the sky at the horizon. Strips of fabric
1 ½ to 2 ½ inches work well The foreground of a picture is usually the darkest and depending on where the light is in the picture it can be almost
black. Sunsets and sunrises appear this way. You will need fabric for anything you may want to appliqué such as Background Mountains or foreground trees or land etc. Lots of variety in fabrics is helpful.
Note: You may also choose one of the wonderful fabrics available that depict skies or water, this would eliminate the strip piecing then you can concentrate more on the Thread painting if you so desire.

Colour value finder-optional
Small amount of Freezer paper or ½ meter fusible web for appliqué (but make sure you bring enough in case you get really creative!)
Liquid basting glue (Elmer’s school glue works great with a toothpick!)
Pencil and paper, Ultra Fine point Sharpie pen
Sewing machine
Neutral thread to match fabric (I often use medium grey or mauve)
thread to match any appliqué you may choose to do
Thread for machine quilting-bring choices of color to enhance your picture (i.e. gold for sunset) I also recommend light weight polyester for the
bobbin thread.
Small scissors for fabric and paper
Sharp rotary cutter and mat
For cutting out appliqué trees the tiny rotary cutter work very well. (Optional)
6 x 24 inch ruler
Straight pins, Seam ripper
Stabilizer (tear away kind) to stabilize your project for thread painting on surface and heavy weight soluable for 3 dimensional thread play if that is
something you want to do,
Quilting foot and free motion foot
Extension cord
Extra bobbins
(batting border and binding fabric depending on how fast you work !)
bring a 12 inch by 18 inch sandwiched piece of any light coloured fabrics to practice some of the techniques I am going to show you.
I will be bringing some strips with me-for swapping fabrics –as you often need just a little bit of different colours for stripping, trading with your neighbours and me works well!
