Many members would know that I embarked on a pretty significant transformation of my 2005 Shadow Aero several
months ago. If you’ve been following the
forum thread you’d be across many of
the challenges I’ve had along the way.
I bought the shadow brand new from
Rising Sun Honda on Townsville in August 2005. Shortly after the saddle bags
were fitted. The bike stayed that way
pretty much until early 2007 when I fit the
cobra pipes.
In September last year I ordered the
AME chopper kit.
Earlier this year my wife bought me a
delonix HID kit. I held onto that until the
AME kit arrived.
Around that time I desnorkled the airbox
and fit a K&N air filter. This leaned the
bike out so much that it was unrideable
so the kind folks at Peter Stevens in
Melbourne relieved me of $400+ to put it
up in the dyno and fit a 5c washer inside
the carby in place of the stage 2 jet kit I
asked and paid for.
In March I asked Rommie at Ghostriders
in Hopper Crossing in Victoria to fit the
AME kit and assorted paraphernalia that
I had accumulated - namely, the screaming banshee air-horn, HID kit, new grips
etc. I also had him source the ape hangers, and headlight casing into which
Rommie managed to install the entire
HID kit, including the HID globe, hi-lo
loom, starter and ballast.
LoneWolf machined up a custom spacer
to allow me to fit the new headlight to the
front of the bike and Rommie wired up
the new Kuryakyn indicators, air-horn
etc.
On May 4th I picked up the bike and
gently rode home to Melbourne. It feels
essentially like a new bike. The whole
ride is very different and will take some
getting used to.
A month in I am really happy with the
result. The ride is really comfortable and
the power I now get after Rommie installed a real stage 2 jet and retuned is
unbelievable.
Of course, the Melbourne winter is fast
approaching and the rides will become
scarcer but bring on next summer and
some long rides!
