† Annual Appeal: With 81 donors we now stand at 38.8% of
our goal with a pledged and/or give amount of $13,550. My
goal for this parish is 300 donors when all is said and done. I
believe you can do it. I want to tell you that personally I
benefited from this Annual Appeal with my formation,
continuing education and the help I needed when I basically
burned myself out about 6 years ago. I’m in great shape now,
I know my limits and I am grateful for what this fund does for
priests who need that kind of assistance.
† Clergy Conference: I will be gone from the parish Monday,
Tuesday and Wednesday, Oct. 17-19 at an extended clergy
conference in Schuyler. I will have mass Monday morning.
There will be no masses on Tuesday and Wednesday. Cedar
will not have mass that week and the Grade School will only
have mass on Thursday. Stay tuned to the bulletin because
there may be a communion service scheduled on Tuesday and/
or Wednesday that week.
† Confirmation Weekend: It’s is always a joy to welcome our
Chief Shepherd to our Parish, especially when he comes to
confirm our young people. The Archbishop is here overnight
tonight and on Sunday he travels to Bow Valley and Fordyce
for those Confirmations.
† Christmas: This year Christmas Day falls on a Sunday. What
does that mean? For a family who attends Mass...it means that
we now have two less masses to attend. With the Holy Day of
Christmas and the Sunday Obligation coinciding and the Holy
Day of New Years and the Sunday Obligation coinciding there
is advantage if you call not coming to Mass to worship the
Lord an advantage. But one thing that I, as a pastor dread, the
collections take a real hit. Unless, of course we start thinking
about this issue now in October. Having lived through the
Blizzard that killed the Christmas collections in Fremont and
several Sunday/Christmas combos...I’d like you to think about
this and begin a conversation. We still provide the envelopes
for all the day: Sunday and the Holy Days. Maybe they really
ought to be used. Something to think about.

† Next Week’s Homily: I am going to use the Homily time
next week to talk about a scourge that is silently tearing apart
the moral fabric of our lives and that of our families. That
scourge: Pornography. The Archdiocese is beginning a major
outreach and education effort in our parishes and schools on
this topic. I know for a fact that the worst of Pornography is
rampant in our community. Why do I know this? Because I
know how insidious and secret the issue is...it is as easy as a
couple clicks on the computer. And guess what folks...your
kids are watching it….as young as 3rd grade. My challenge to
our parents is to educate yourselves on it and learn how you
can protect your kids from it. My challenge to men...how to
help you avoid the addiction and how to help you if its
already got its claws in you.

 TOOTSIE ROLL DRIVE: The Knights of Columbus are
conducting their “Campaign for People with
Intellectual Disabilities”. Approximately 47,000
Nebraskans experience some degree of intellectual
disability. Representatives from the Msgr. Werner
Knights of Columbus Council 1233 in Hartington will
be accepting free will donations after Mass.
 FALL DINNER FUN RUN: Kids Fun Run registration
forms can be found on the Holy Trinity parish website.
 FALL DINNER: Our annual Fall Dinner is next Sunday,
October 16th. A broasted chicken and ham dinner
with all the fixings will be served from 11:00 a.m.—
1:30 p.m. in the Activity Center. See insert in this
week’s bulletin. All raffle tickets, toys, juice boxes,
pop etc. may be dropped off at the parish office this
week. Desserts, salads & baked goods may be
dropped off at the Activity Center entrance on Sunday
morning. Fifth and sixth graders are reminded of their
job to carry dinner trays for guests. All workers are
asked to show up for shifts a few minutes early. The
decorating committee is looking for pumpkins, gourds,
and multi-colored corn to use to help decorate the
Activity Center for the Fall Dinner. If you can help us
out please drop off your items on Saturday morning,
October 15th at 9:00 at the Msgr. Werner Activity
Center. Please call Rhonda Miller (402)254-7469 if
you have questions.
 BABY BOTTLE BOOMERANG: Thank you to everyone
who donated to our fundraiser. Bottles can still be
returned to the parish office.
 GUILD NOTES: October’s cleaning group is Group 9,
led by Jenny Holan. Group 8, led by Marilyn Thoene,
will serve the next funeral luncheon.

 CATHOLIC DAUGHTERS SUNDAY:

October 16th, is recognized as “Catholic Daughters
Sunday.”
All Catholic Daughters members are
encouraged to attend the 8:30 a.m. Mass and sit
together as a group in the front of Church.
 40 DAYS FOR LIFE: We at Holy Trinity can participate
in this campaign, Sep 28 - Nov 6, by uniting our
prayers with those also participating in 40 Days for
Life campaigns throughout the world. A copy of the
daily devotionals is placed in the adorer’ pew in
church for perpetual adorers. A daily devotional can
be found at www.40daysforlife.com/devotionals/.
 ROSARY FOR LIFE: All are invited to pray the Rosary
for Life at 6:00 p.m. each evening at the Grotto, south
of the Activity Center, during the month of October.
 NATIVITY SET RENOVATION FUND: A generous donor
will pick up the balance of the renovation bill when the
set is finished. The balance remaining is $1,115 as of
this date. If you still wish to help, stop at the office.
 SENIOR CENTER BREAKFAST: The Senior Citizens
Center is hosting a Pancake & Waffle Breakfast this
Sunday, Oct. 9th at 9:00 a.m.—12:30 p.m.
 PRO-LIFE ROSARY: A Pro Life Rosary at the Fatima
Grotto in Bow Valley, will be on Thursday, October
13th at 7:30 p.m. The prayer intention for this month
is for respect life. Please join us!
 PATRIOTIC ROSARY: A Patriotic Rosary for America
will be prayed on Sat., Oct. 15th at 11:00 a.m. at the
South City Park, Crofton, NE. In case of inclement
weather, rosary will be held in St. Rose Church.
Refreshments served afterwards.
 PARISH BREAKFAST: St. Peter’s Catholic church in
Newcastle is having a Sausage, Pancake & Eggs Fall
Breakfast next Sunday, October 16th at 8:00 a.m. to
12:30 p.m., in the church hall. All Welcome.
 FOOD PANTRY COLLECTION: Please help support our
local Food Pantry by dropping off donations at any
Cedar Security Bank branch all through October.
 HOLIDAY FAIR: Find handmade items at the Sacred
Heart Monastery Yankton, SD, annual Holiday Fair.
This year’s Holiday Fair is Saturday, October 22nd
from 9:30 -11:30 a.m. Browse a variety of sewn items,
made and created by the sisters. Mirabile and Mount
Marty College Chamber Choir will perform.
 M ARRIAGE RETREAT: Marriage in the Lord: Poured
Out for Love, a retreat for married couples is being
offered Oct. 29-30 at the St. Benedict Center by
Schuyler. It will explore the theological and spiritual
meaning of the Sacrament of Marriage. It inspires
couples to place their love for each other into the
greater love of God and in this way to embark
together upon the journey from sinner to saint. Visit

Bake Sale Drop Off Instructions
Each household is asked to donate baked goods ($5 value) or $10 in cash.
Baked items—covered, labeled, and in a disposable container—should be
brought to the Msgr. Werner Activity Center from 7:30 to 10:30 a.m. Bake
Sale workers will price them. If you choose to donate cash in lieu of
baking, you may turn it in at any time to the parish office with your raffle
ticket money, or at the Bake Sale Table in the Activity Center on the day of
the Fall Dinner.

Raffle Ticket Instructions
Tickets are included in this mailing. Each family is asked to purchase or sell
these tickets at $5.00 each. All sold and unsold tickets must be returned to
the parish office or the collection basket at Mass by Tuesday, Oct. 11th.

Round up your team and get ready for the 2016 BLITZ Scavenger Hunt!
Scavenger Hunt Teams will consist of 4-6 people (or 2 or 3 couples) who will do an area road trip
to complete their list of clues for Scavenger finds. Blitz Scavenger Hunt teams will pick up their list of
clues at 3:45 p.m. on Saturday November 5, 2016 at the Msgr. Werner Activity Center Scavenger Hunt
Check-in table, in time to begin your scavenging by 4:00 p.m. The first two teams to return to
the Activity Center with their completed lists by 5:30 p.m. or before will receive prizes.
Great fun to begin your evening of blitzing-out on the specialty food buffet and Husker mania.
The Scavenger Hunt is part of the Blitz but with a $50 registration fee per team for winning
team prizes. To participate in the Blitz Scavenger Hunt, participants must also purchase the
$125 Fall Blitz ticket.

Please remember the Cedar County Catholic Schools Gala
in a generous way as you bring home your harvest this year.
Farmers, retired farmers and friends please remember Gala 2017 with a grain
auction gift. Gifts of corn will be greatly appreciated as well as soybeans and cash gifts,
which can be converted to corn for the Grain Auction.
Your gifts of harvest to Gala 2017 assists Cedar County Catholic Schools’ budgets.
The Gala has helped our Catholic Schools with approximately $3.54 million in the past
twenty-one years. Gala 2016 raised a net total of $318,427 for our four Catholic Schools.
The Grain Auction is over 20% of Gala proceeds and an essential part of it. Each year our
goal for a successful Grain Auction is 10,000 bushels of donated corn. Please help reach
that goal.
Making a gift to the grain auction can be done by delivering grain to the Fordyce
Coop, Hartington Elevator or Hartington Feed and Chick . Notify the elevator in person
or by phone of the amount of grain you would like to give. Or call Merle Loecker at 402254-3535 to arrange a time for him to stop for your grain donation. Cash donations for
grain can be made by mailing a check to the Catholic Development Office at P.O. Box
654, Hartington, NE 68739.
