The word “baidarka” is actually a
Russian word. It is the diminutive form
of “baidar” which means “boat” so
“baidarka” means “small boat”. Long
waterline length and multi-chine hull
make this a fast boat which will handle
well in rough water. These boats track
well and are little effected by wind
due to their low profile. The kayaks
made by the Aleuts were unique in
form and construction. The most
obvious feature is a “bifurcated” bow.
There has been a lot of speculation
regarding the function of this bow
form. The advantage of this shape is at
the waterline the lower ”jaw” can be
narrow and sharp, giving a fine entry
into to the water for good efficiency,
while higher up the upper “jaw” can
be full and wide for high buoyancy to
lift the bow over waves. The Baidarka

A kayak for a smaller or mid size
person. Not that long, but with a
narrow and more V-shaped hull so you
will keep up with the longer ones.
It has a well proven deep V-shaped
hull with smooth bow and stern. Hard
chine and a low aft deck will make it
maneuver and be easy to roll. Also with
stainless steel rods on deck for towing/
locking to a roof rack and lots of cords
on the deck for all of your gear.

Hybrid – this method combines the good
properties of the ABS material in the hull and
fiberglass technology in the deck lay-up. In this
production method the hulls are thermoformed
giving the kayak a higher scratch resistant surface,
reinforced with the great experience of the
composite industry. The decks are built out of
fiberglass materials combined with sandwich
construction. This production method is one of
the innovations of the industry giving the paddler
a very durable performance orientated product!

Carbon/Aramide
Clear Carbon
This very versatile construction is built using vacuum technology, which
ensures the best weight/strength ratio. This material lay-up increases durability
and stiffness of the kayak, absorbing even less energy during paddling and
withstanding the most challenging environments. All carbon/aramide built
kayaks are equipped with sandwich reinforced keel area - ensuring scratch
and impact strength. Hull and deck are joined using internally both fiberglass
and carbon taping, externally a very robust aramide taping. All decks are built
in sandwich construction.
Kayaks built with this method are finished with a clear carbon hull,
which takes years of experience to be done correctly. This production
method combines vacuum infusion technology with high performance
properties of marine grade epoxy resin and several types of carbon
fiber, carbon/aramide and glass multiaxial fabrics to create the very
high-end product. These kayaks are even more versatile than the
regular carbon/aramide construction built kayaks using full sandwich
lay-up in the kayak hulls. Decks are built out of sandwich construction
reinforced with carbon/aramide technology.

Zegul head designer Johan Wirsén being at the starting
point of creating a new kayak is asking himself questions
such as:
Is it possible to improve the shape of the hull? Can i reach
my destination faster or more rested if the kayak is designed
differently? What will a prospective customer be like?
In designing the Zegul kayaks I was above all aiming for
accessibility. Paddlers should be able to grow with their
kayak and develop their skills and techniques without having to buy a new kayak as they improve. The kayaks should
feel safe for beginners, but should also be vigorous and fast
enough for the experienced user. The Zegul kayaks are not
recreational kayaks but well-designed sea kayaks with timeless look suited for day trips and/or expeditions. The design
of hull makes it easy to turn using the right technique. The
kayaks have good stability without being too wide and slow.
