I am so excited to be part of this amazing cultural/educational center.
Now that I have been able to submerge myself into the ArtCenter
and learn about the vast number of classes offered, the community
outreach, the variety of art installations and, of course, the wide
offering of special events – literally “there is something for everyone.”
The Winter/Spring season is upon us and it is going to be a very
Barbara Rogoff exciting one at the Lighthouse ArtCenter.
For those of you who are Benefactor level and above members – we have some
great perks! We want you to be “our guest” to attend three V.I.P. Art Experiences.
Starting off with a trip to Miami on December 3, 2015 for Art Basel Vernissage. Next
will be the Opening Night Cocktail Reception on January 20, 2016 to ArtPalmBeach in
West Palm Beach. The third will be a special afternoon at Palm Beach Fine Craft Show
on February 27, 2016. If you have not already made your reservations – we still have
some room – so don’t delay and R.S.V.P. today!
I look forward to meeting all of you – whether you are students at the School of Art,
donors and members at the Museum or volunteers.
Please stop in my office at the School of Art to say hello and tell me “how we are
doing” and “what you think we should be doing.”
All my best,

Tibetan Monks
Sacred Art Tour
January 25 -31, 2016
We welcome back the Sacred Art
Tour! Eight Tibetan refugee Buddhist
monks will create a sand mandala
and share Tibetan traditions at the
museum.
Last year, more than 1,500 visitors
enjoyed the Dalai Lama-sanctioned
tour here. The mandala is created with
naturally dyed sand from India; and
the monks painstakingly create the
intricate design grain-by-grain.
Please enjoy their daily meditative
chanting as they begin and end
their days at the Museum, at 9:30
a.m. and 3:30 p.m., and quietly watch
the creation of the World Peace
mandala throughout the day. Tibetan
merchandise will be on sale daily, with
proceeds benefiting the 2,000 monks
at the Drepung Gomang Monastery
in India.
The dissolution ceremony will remind
us of the value of impermanence.
Once again, the monks will gather at
the Jupiter Inlet Lighthouse, offering
sacred sand as a blessing to our
waterways.
This year, Director of Education,
Cynthia Trone, visited the monks at
the Drepung Gomang Center for
Engaging Compassion in Kentucky,
and attended the Dalai Lama’s 80th
Birthday celebration at the Global
Compassion Summit in California.
She says, “There is a deep sense of
peace, joy and positivity in the monks
that soothes our souls. A sense of true
kindness and compassion is clearly
evident in their presence; it is a delight
and an honor to learn from them.
I chose the World Peace mandala
this year to infuse our community
with a sense of global respect and
cooperation.”
Daily chanting is at 9:30 a.m. and 3:30 p.m.
Mon., Jan. 25 from 7 to 8 p.m.

ArtReach Programs
In our ArtReach program, we offer art
instruction and materials to individuals who would otherwise have little
opportunity to participate in the arts.
We serve students with mental and/
or physical disabilities, as well as those
who are economically disadvantaged
or elderly.
Our programs bring the joy and healing of artistic expression. Our comprehensive curriculums address the
specific needs of these students. In
2015-16, we will have the privilege of
working with Cayuga Centers, El Sol
Community Resource Center, Hannah's
Home, Head Start, Jupiter Medical Center, Martin County Special Needs, New
Day Adult Care, RiverBend Academy at
Sandy Pines, as well as numerous local
schools and special needs programs.
The positive impact this program has
had on the individual students and our
community is remarkable, and would
not be possible without the continued
support of our members, donors and
grants.
Head Start Program
The Lighthouse ArtCenter is sharing
the joy of art with at-risk children at
the Head Start program in West Palm
Beach.
Through this partnership, preschool
children who may not otherwise be
exposed to the arts, will benefit from
professional art instruction from our faculty. With a dynamic curriculum, including music and multi-media arts projects,
children will enjoy onsite arts programming throughout the school year.
Exposure to the arts at a young age
has been proven to benefit children’s
success in school, as well as build selfesteem. Our instructors and staff are
thrilled to be involved in this inspiring
program. This program is generously
underwritten by Susan Namm Spencer.
For more information, please contact Cynthia Trone, Director of Education at (561) 748-8737.

Adding the Figure to
Your Landscapes with
Michele Byrne
Thurs. & Fri., January 28 & 29;
10 a.m. to 4 p.m.
Member: $350; Nonmember: $400
This class will teach how to add
the figure in a natural, fluid way
and how to simplify the subject
by breaking it down into basic shapes. Other topics covered
during class will include: how light falls onto a subject and its
effect on color and value in the landscape, and how to add
drama with your brush strokes and palette knife work. Daily
demos followed by student painting time and a critique.
Painting the Figure in Studio & En
Plein Air with Eli Cedrone
Thurs. & Fri., February 18 & 19; 9 to 5 p.m.
Member: $300; Nonmember: $350
Learn the fundamentals of painting the figure
en plein air and in studio. Topics covered
will be: understanding direct, ambient and
reflected light; how sunlight affects color;
seeing color and value as a unit; and capturing the features of
the model to create a likeness. You'll learn how to break down
the fundamental form of the figure into large shapes or masses.
There will be instruction on how to mix clean color in the correct
temperature and value in order to create the illusion of light on
the figure. Eli will demo each day and provide plenty of one-onone. A working knowledge of the medium is advised.
Plein Air Workshop
with Elio Camacho
Sat. & Sun., March 5 & 6;
9 a.m. to 5 p.m.
Member: $350; Nonmember: $400
Elio will assist students in
capturing the particular
mood of the moment and
to express themselves in a
bold and colorful way, while
capturing the beauty and
spontaneity of nature. Elio develops a program for improving
each individual’s ability as a painter based on the student's
level and goals.
Bold Brush Plein Air with Shelby Keefe
Mon. & Tues., March 7 & 8; 10 a.m. to 4 p.m. SOLD OUT!
Member: $350; Nonmember: $400
One of the biggest challenges for plein air
painters is to successfully narrow down
infinite amounts of detail and express the
essence of a scene. Students will learn and
apply strategies for simplification, value
accuracy, compositional uniqueness and much more. Shelby
will share her method of applying complimentary colors as an
underpainting to the white canvas, and jumping in with both
feet to grab the light before it changes. She will demonstrate
her technique every morning and then help each student oneon-one throughout the rest of the day.
Painting the Sustained Nocturne

School of Art Policies & Procedures
Please read thoroughly.
DEAR STUDENT: We are a nonprofit 501(c)
(3) charitable organization. Tuition fees cover
only 60% of the costs of operating the school.
The balance is raised through donations,
fundraisers and member support. We must
abide by these policies in order to be here to
serve you and future generations. Classes are
now only available to current members of the
Lighthouse ArtCenter.
REGISTRATION AND REFUND POLICY:
Included in each course registration is a nonrefundable $25 registration fee. To withdraw,
students must submit a written withdrawal
request at least five working days prior to
the start of the course. Students who meet
this requirement will receive a full tuition
refund minus the registration fee. Students
who withdraw less than five working days
before the start of that course will not
receive a refund. There are no exceptions.
PRORATING: If space is available, and if
approved by the instructor, classes in Spring,
Late Spring, Summer, Early Fall and Fall will
be prorated for a $25 processing fee. Classes
enrolled must be consecutive. Full-session
students will have priority when registering
for classes. There is NO prorating in the
Winter session.
MISSED CLASSES: The Lighthouse ArtCenter staff always does their best to accommodate all students. The School of Art is
NOT responsible for providing students
with make-up classes when a student has
missed a class for any reason not the fault
of the faculty or the School of Art. There are
no refunds or make-ups for missed classes.
Upon request, we will issue a tax-deductible contribution receipt for missed classes.
COURSE CHANGES/CANCELLED COURSES:
The School of Art reserves the right to substitute instructors for any of its classes at
any point in any term and to change its
calendar, withdraw or modify a course at any
time. Classes or workshops cancelled due to
inclement weather or instructor absence will
be rescheduled according to studio availability. Students enrolled in courses which are
cancelled by the School of Art will receive a
full refund. In the event that a course or workshop is cancelled, every effort will be made to
notify students as quickly as possible. Off-site
classes (i.e. Plein Air) will receive emails the
evening before class announcing the location.
SAFETY & LIABILITY: While the student can
be assured that every reasonable safety precaution will be followed, the ArtCenter will
not assume liability for injuries that occur
within the scope of the subject area for which
the student is enrolled. By completing registration online or in person for any course,
the student agrees to assume all reasonable
liability from injuries related to the scope of
the work being taught and releases the Lighthouse ArtCenter from any liability claims
related to any injuries and/or accidents that
may occur.
Please be aware that you may be photographed or filmed
for publicity and marketing purposes. If there is a privacy
