SITKA GEAR 2010
GEAR. UP.
Go Farther. Stay Longer. Get Closer.
Sitka was founded on a single principle: hunting clothing is hunting gear. It has to perform
and protect. It has to move quickly and quietly.
It has to sit stone still for hours in the stone
cold. Sitka Gear has been beat to hell by some
of the baddest asses chasing sheep, goats, elk
and mule deer throughout the west and Alaska
and it keeps going. This year, we introduce
specialized gear for whitetail hunters with
technologies optimized for treestand hunting.
Elevate your game. GEAR. UP.

Putting It All Together
sample sitka system
The photo at left of Sitka athlete, Andrew Crow, shows a Sitka system in action with all
of the variables that affect comfort. Late fall temperatures at high elevations in northern
latitudes are low, however, in this photo, as he works his way up a ridgeline, Andrew’s
exertion level is elevated and his body’s response is similar to an evaporative cooling
system. His Core base layer is pulling double duty, wicking perspiration away from
his skin where it can be breathed away, keeping him dry and warm once he settles in
behind the spotting scope. Clearly, inclement weather is a factor in Andrew’s hunt and
his Stormfront jacket and pants provide the GORE-TEX® brand “Guaranteed to Keep You
Dry” promise, keeping pounding rain out while allowing perspiration vapor to breath out,
helping Andrew avoid that clammy feeling.

open country
Open country pursuits...extended engagement ranges, generally moderate to higher activity levels with periods
of motionlessness. Glassing open bowls, tiptoeing through aspen groves, battling scree fields, and generally
covering miles at a time. Sitka’s line of Open Country products are designed with weight, activity level, and quickly
changing weather conditions in mind. The foundation of this line up revolves around moisture management,
keeping you comfortable and active. Layers are chosen to accommodate forecasted conditions in addition to the
unknown. Face fabrics are focused on weight or durability with smooth woven faces that can dry quickly in the
case of rain, and the unexpected overnighter in a tent. Packabilty and durability are stressed. GORE® OPTIFADE™
Concealment Open Country is optimized for engagement ranges of 20 meters or more, mountain or open environments, and stalking prey with minimal coverage. This is how we define Open Country.
All Sitka Systems begin with the end in mind. Know your prey and the
environment you’ll be hunting in and start there. Before configuring your
Sitka System, understand the basics of the outward facing concealment
patterns described on the following pages. Determine the best for your
hunting environment, then proceed.
W. L. Gore & Associates, Inc. (inventors of GORE-TEX® fabric) are at the
forefront of concealment technology with their new GORE® OPTIFADE™
family of patterns.
GORE® OPTIFADE™ concealment open country pattern as seen through the eyes of a mule deer
Until now, modern camouflage patterns have been designed to perform in retail environments and look good to humans...on everything from beer coolers
to golf bags. Technological development has been focused entirely on textile
printing with the result being ever-increasing numbers of high-definition
mimicry camo patterns. No one can disagree that today’s photorealistic
reproductions of sticks and leaves is mind boggling. However, Gore scientists
were among the first to ask, “are we boggling the right minds?” After all,
mimicry-type camouflage is the evolutionary approach of prey, not predators.
Instead of using humans as the ultimate test, Gore assembled the world’s
leading experts in animal vision and concealment technology. For the first
time, using sophisticated testing, concealment was looked at through the
eyes of prey and designed to avoid their detection.
Prey animals scan their world quickly looking for threats in the form of
anomalies in the fractal array. As long as none are detected, no threat is
perceived and they are not alarmed.
Prey animals—particularly ungulates like deer, elk, moose, sheep,
and goats—are also dichromats. In short, their color perception differs
dramatically from our own. Additionally, their visual acuity is diminished as
an evolutionary trade-off for their wide range of view. In prey animal terms,
obsessing over the high-definition detail of the stem of a leaf in a mimicry
pattern is like asking a guy with 20/40 vision and no glasses what font he
prefers on the last line of his eye test chart. It simply doesn’t matter.

forest
The longer you are in your stand, the better your chance of success. This is a generally accepted truth. We like
truths. The Forest Line is anchored by the core layering system that Sitka was founded on. We then add key
outerwear pieces that shift the balance towards R-values and quietness. This is done by increasing loft, without
adding weight, brushing face fabrics to add quietness, and eliminating unnecessary features that add noise. We
then pattern pieces to fit close to the body, making long, extended sits bearable. Coupled with the new GORE®
OPTIFADE™ Concealment Forest, that takes into account the distance and extreme angles of engagement and the
vertical environment, you have a deadly duo. This is how we define Forest.

Macro-Patterns & Micro-Patterns
Concealment elevated
The human body has what is known as a signature, made up of identifiable lines and obvious symmetry that is easily recognized by humans and particularly by their prey.
By interrupting those lines and the body’s symmetry with a macro-pattern of light and dark blobs and streaks, immediate identification is disrupted. But nature is made up
of more than the lights and darks that make up the positive and negative shapes in the world around us. Fine texture defines our world. Therefore, overlaid on the macropattern, is a fractal geometry-based micro-pattern.
Forest environments like those typically encountered by whitetail deer hunters present a unique set of concealment requirements. Common
sense dictates that when looking skyward, things should become brighter. It may seem counterintuitive, but looking upward into the forest
canopy, things are actually a huge study in contrast and a lot of darkness as one looks at the shaded, underside of branches and leaves and the
blown-out brightness of the sky.
Human outline registers as a
threat to prey.
Matching the
texture with a fractal
geometry based micropattern.
Disrupting of body
symmetry and outline by using
macro-patterns.
Light falls more evenly at ground level.
Human Vision vs. Deer vision
Looking upward, contrast is pronounced.
Engagement Distance & Horizontal/Vertical disruption
Mimicry Camouflage & Isoluminance
Traditional camouflage relies upon mimicry. But the reality is that even the highest
definition mimicry patterns tend to block up into a recognizable mass of gray at
standard engagement ranges. This effect is called isoluminance.
~20m
Field of Vision & Eye Placement
While human eyes are placed forward with a field of view around 120 degrees
ungulates’ eyes are located far to the side of their heads, enabling a nearly 280
degree field of view. A very subtle movement of the head enables them to scan for
predators over a complete 360 degrees. However, the trade-off for such a wide view
of the world is diminished visual acuity. Where humans would see 20/20 an ungulate
sees around 20/40.
GORE® OPTIFADE™ Open Country is scientifically designed for engagement ranges of 20 meters and beyond. The larger neutral areas of the
pattern — the macro-pattern — are more critical to concealment at greater engagement ranges. However, the average distance for a Pope &
Young whitetail kill is 16 yards. At that proximity, the micro-pattern used in GORE® OPTIFADE™ Concealment Forest becomes more critical as
the fine detail that defines an ungulate’s world is discerned more easily. ~80m
Mimicry patterns are designed to work
at only one engagement distance.
Beyond the optimum viewing distance
isoluminance occurs defining the
silhouette of the hunter.
Human Vision
Human Field of View: 120°
Ungulate Field of View: 280°
(simple turn of the head expands
view to 360°)
At 20 meters and beyond, macro-pattern is key. Combined
with a horizontal disruption configuration, GORE® OPTIFADE™
Concealment Open Country is optimized for western-type hunting.
ungulate Vision
• Tri-chromatic color
• Di-chromatic color
(red, green and blue)
(shades of yellow, blue and gray)
• Sharper vision, 20/20
• Diminished visual acuity, 20/40
At close engagement ranges micro-pattern becomes more
important. A vertical/radial disruption makes GORE® OPTIFADE™
Concealment Forest ideal for treestand hunting.

(leaving elk camp)
> WHY LAYER?
The concept of layering originated
in the mountain athlete worlds of
climbing, backpacking and skiing.
Its purpose is to enable rapid
adjustments in your micro-climate
based on activity level and varying
weather conditions. It is the
ideal concept for hunters who are
exposed from chilly pre-dawn
hours through well after sundown.
There will be times of high exertion during hiking and climbing.
There will be moments of absolute
stillness during glassing, on stand
or in the final stages of the stalk.
Rain or snow is a possibility. Wind
is a probability. Temperature
fluctuations of up to 50 degrees
can occur as fronts pass during a
single day of hunting.

I think I am close to my limit for reducing pounds. I have a very bare bones set-up, I use many ideas and philosophies from the ultra-light backpacking community. If I drop anything else from my pack I feel it would reduce my

Talk about layering as it applies to your style of hunting.
My focus with layering is staying dry, which means staying warm whether hiking or glassing. My outer layers are
the Ascent pants, Coldfront jacket, and Stormfront pant and jacket. I use a combination of Core,Traverse, and
merino wool for my insulating layers. With the mornings often below freezing, I usually have every layer on when
I leave the tent. As the hunt progresses, I am in and out of my layers all day trying to regulate my body heat and
reduce moisture. I don’t take any extra clothes, so the ability of the insulating layers to wick moisture and dry
quickly is key. This in combination with the performance of the Stormfront in wind, rain, and snow makes this the
perfect layering system for me.

MOISTURE MANAGEMENT
The Core and the Traverse series
are the first two layers to touch
your skin. They are there to move
moisture away from your skin.
Sitka’s next-to-skin fabrics with
ATB-100 Silver effectively combat
body odor by inhibiting the growth
of odor-causing bacteria in the
fabric. ATB-100 Silver is not a
surface treatment and contains no
chemicals. It is pure silver, microencapsulated in the yarns that are
knit into the fabric construction. It
will last for the life of the garment, is safe, natural, and offers
permanent odor protection.

Practically essential to any and every
Sitka System, the Core base layer
series is purely for moisture wicking
and comfort. Designed to literally pull
moisture off the surface of your skin,
the Core garments are critical for
keeping you dry from the inside out. The
Core Series is made of 100% polyester
bi-component technology that actively
moves moisture away from the skin.
To ensure an odor resistant hunt, the
Core fabric utilizes silver encapsulated
technology that reduces odor-causing
bacteria.
Utilizing the same fabric technologies
as the Core Crew to keep you dry, the
Core Zip-T adds another dimension of
breathability. With a deep center-front
zipper, the Zip-T can be opened up
to allow massive ventilation during
arduous climbs or sweltering mid-day
siestas.
Though technically a moisture management solution, the Core Bottoms are
generally reserved for colder days in
the field when an additional layer is
needed to stay warm.
Utilizing the same material as the
Core Series, the Sitka Boxers are an
added piece of gear to ensure the entire
system functions as designed. Intended
as a mechanism to draw moisture away
from the body, the Boxers reduce sweat,
odor, and discomfort.
This is your expedition weight compliment to the Core series. Wind resistant
and durable face allow the Traverse
layers to be worn in all technical
situations, while the soft lofted inside
will hold in heat. The Traverse Zip-T
has thumb loops on the extended sleeve
cuff, a welded chest pocket, and a deep
chest zip.

Hunters exhibit intense pride
in their ability to stalk, call, and

time you spend in the woods, the
more time you’re exposed to rain,
wind, snow and cold. Clothing that
can keep you out there through it
all, as my Sitka Gear does, is one
of the truly revolutionary developments in hunting in recent years.
Top over his Core. As temps drop and the rut
approaches, the flexibility of the Stratus
Jacket and Bib shine. This base for the rest
of the season allows Mike to stay comfortable as temperatures change throughout
the day, but also layer up heavily with the
Kelvin Series underneath as winter sets in.
When it really gets cold, Mike is hibernating in the Incinerator Series, enjoying the
toastiness of 700 fill down, without the
bulk of 300 geese strapped to him.

V) Insulation
> layering in heat
Whether it’s a day in the woods,
or a two-week backcountry epic,
PrimaLoft™ synthetic loft material
is your go-to choice for warmth. Its
lofted insulation is warmer, highly
wind resistant, far less bulky in
your pack, and lighter weight.
Fleece has its place for early
season layering, but that’s it.
The Kelvin Series can be layered
underneath a hard or soft shell
outerwear piece for insulation in
compromised weather conditions
or when battling tough vegetation
or boulders. If glassing is the
game, pull it on as an outer layer
to lock in some heat on a
windblown ridge.

Having drunk from the same
cup as the Kelvin Jacket, the Kelvin Vest
is a layering solution for a number of
applications. When the temperature
starts to plummet, and you need a
heavily insulated vest; the Kelvin is it.
Light, packable, and very warm.
Lightweight and packable,
the Kelvin Jacket has an extreme heatto-weight ratio. Filled with PrimaLoft®;
a synthetic high-loft insulation this
jacket is designed to distance the atmospheric climate from your skin. Built for
the most extreme and cold situations,
the Kelvin is no joke. Designed to layer
underneath an appropriate outer shell,
the Kelvin is Sitka’s warmest insulating
jacket.
When you need to stay
warm, and can appreciate
the flexibility in layering for
more heat, add the Kelvin pant to your
quiver. The Kelvin Pants are form fitted
to layer easily under pants or a shell,
with zippers on the lower legs to make
it easier for getting over boots. Very
basic pockets to keep weight down,
and a sleek, built-in belt to cinch down
when you need it.

During our last hunt together, I had the opportunity to crawl
around inside Atkinson’s mind for a bit. The thoughts that
race around a guide’s head at any given moment are many:
Delayed flights, lost baggage, guides showing or not showing,
that 200" buck being there tomorrow at daylight, remembering to get more milk for the lodge, 10 client calls to return,
dozens of trail cameras to check, leaking tires, binoculars,
failing mouth calls, squeaking boots, scent spray, extra
batteries...
but providing the durable, waterproof
In his words, “I have to think about every piece of gear that I
carry. I make decisions about the knife I carry, the optics I use,
the tires on my truck, what stand to use or send a client to, what
trail cam to check. What boots do I need, do I have my client’s
cell number, is he gonna be at the meeting point? Where’s his
gear? Will the batteries last, will pics be on the trail cams?

Originally designed for extended
periods of cold weather, the Celsius
Jacket’s quiet soft-shell is designed
with R-value in mind. Backed with
high-loft fleece, this jacket is designed
to keep you warm without bulk while
sitting motionless on the mountain.
Detailed with pit zips, removable hood,
tapered cuffs, and quick draw cinch

candidate for your mid- to late-season
hunt battles.
Like the Celsius Jacket, the bib brings
to the platform the latest science in

fabric technology. The full bib coverage
adds to body heat retention, but also
eliminates any chinks in the armor.
A 1/3 length leg zip, thorough pocket

for all the sky scrapers out there.
Built on the same principals as the
Celsius Jacket & Bib, the Celsius Vest
is a layering option for every hunt.
Lightweight enough to always earn a
spot in your bag for layering, but stout
enough to fight genuine cold snaps.
Also, available in solid colors to help

environments.
The 90% is for tough grinds, mellow

Rocky Mountain
Elk FOUNDATION
Beer & Pizza, Peanut Butter & Jelly,
Sitka & Elk Country…
by Dan Crockett
The call came in the spring of 2007. On one end of the line, a realty firm representing
Plum Creek, the nation’s largest timber company. On the other, Rance Block, longtime Washington Lands Program manger for the Rocky Mountain Elk Foundation.
They said Plum Creek planned to sell most of its land in Washington’s Cascades—
more than 100,000 acres in the habitat that’s home to the state’s largest elk herd.
> RMEF’s Mission
In 1984, four hunters from Troy,
Montana, asked each other,
“Can you imagine life without elk
and elk hunting?” With the answer
a resounding No!, they pooled
their talents and resources and
created the Rocky Mountain Elk
Foundation in May of that year.
Spiking camp in the back room
of a trailer house in Troy, the
four—a pastor, a realtor, a logger
and a drive-in owner—created an
organization that would directly
benefit elk and other wildlife by
putting money to work on the
ground.
Over 150,000 members have
contributed and volunteered to
protect and enhance millions of
acres of North American wildlife
habitat. What began more than 20
years ago as a “crazy” idea has
become a shining star in the world
of conservation and hunting.
Less than a two-hour drive from Seattle, the land would sell in a heartbeat. Plum
Creek’s land is mixed together with national forest in square-mile pieces like a giant
checkerboard. For generations they gave hunters, fisherman and everyone else free
access to their land. Most folks didn’t even think of it as private. They sure would
when it was carved up and resold as thousands of 5-, 10- and 20-acre ranchettes.
Losing that land to subdivision would end that hunting tradition forever, not to
mention spell doom for the wildlife that depends on it.
It was a now-or-never deal. The Elk Foundation had just completed an exchange
that consolidated more than 60,000 acres of checkerboarded Western Pacific Timber
land in the same area. We helped create three big intact blocks and protected them
forever as public land. With any luck, we would shift the tide here as well.
Working with The Nature Conservancy, the Washington Department of Fish and
Wildlife and other conservation groups, we agreed that 10,700 acres surrounding
Rock Creek northwest of Yakima was the absolute tenderloin for elk and a lot of
other wildlife. Mountain goats, bighorn sheep, mule deer, threatened species
like the white-headed woodpecker, Lewis’ woodpecker and flammulated owl all
call it home. Rock Creek itself is a stronghold for native bull trout and westslope
cutthroats, as well as steelhead and Chinook salmon.
elk country. That works out to 600 acres conserved every day since the
RMEF was born.
Unfortunately, each day across America, another 5,000 acres of wild, open space
falls prey to development. And once it’s gone, it’s gone for good.
If you’ve been hunting for a while, you’ve likely seen No Trespassing signs go up on
one of your favorite spots. That hurts. But it’s nothing compared to watching a new
subdivision sprout in the meadow where you once watched elk calves play tag, a new
road unzipping the mountainside where your son killed his first buck. The unborn
hunters of an ever-more crowded planet will not thank us for civilizing more wild
country. But we’ll earn their eternal gratitude for sustaining more opportunities to
define themselves in an older world. To test themselves against it. And, with luck, to
feel at home there.
Cascade Elk Country
What is it worth to hear a big bull rip open the pre-dawn sky? How can you put
a price on hunkering beside your daughter as she takes a shaky breath before
shooting her first cow? But passing on wildlife and wild places to the next generation
takes real money indeed. That’s why the Rocky Mountain Elk Foundation is proud to
count Sitka Gear as a partner.
Home to Washington’s largest elk herd, the east slope of the Cascades is classic elk
country. Thanks to the Elk Foundation and the Nature Conservancy, it always will be.
Sitka makes the gear that lets you push as far into the backcountry as your guts and
heart and legs will carry you. The Elk Foundation makes sure you’ll always have that
backcountry.
We need you as a partner, too. If you’re not a member, please join today.
www.RMEF.org • (800) CALL-ELK
We flew into action and raised enough money in 2009 to protect 2,700 acres. More
importantly we signed agreements to save the entire 10,000 acres over the next
three years. If we succeed, it will all become part of the Oak Creek Wildlife Area and
will forever remain open for our grandkids to hunt and fish and roam.
“To say that I’m proud of what we’re accomplishing here falls way short,” Block says.
“When folks pull together and get creative, it’s amazing how can find a way to save the
places we love.”
That’s just one example of the nuts & bolts conservation work the RMEF does
all across America. We’re constantly pushing to be both more efficient and more
resourceful. Ninety cents out of every dollar we raise goes directly to conserve
more habitat for elk and other wildlife and open more country to public access. And
through partnerships like the one above—and the one with Sitka Gear—we achieve
9:1 leverage, putting $9 to work on the ground for each dollar raised.
When four elk hunters launched the Rocky Mountain Elk Foundation around a
kitchen table in 1984, 550,000 wild elk roamed America. Today, there are more
than 1 million. That may just be coincidence. This isn’t. In those 26 years, the Elk
Foundation has opened 600,000 acres of previously off-limits land to public hunting,
helped restore elk to five states, greatly enhanced 4.8 million acres through habitat
stewardship, and forever protected 900,000 acres of the finest and most threatened

Bomber Belt
We found that not everyone loved
getting their pants with suspenders,
as much as we did. So, we decided to
remove them, and include them as a
necessity. At the same time, we decided
to upgrade them and evolve towards
a new bra clip fastening system that
attaches to the newly reinforced webbing loops on the Ascent and Mountain

Urethane elastic with rubber gripper

THE wild sheep
FOUNDATION
THE WILD SHEEP FOUNDATION
by NEIL THAGARD
Since 1977, the Wild Sheep Foundation (WSF), formerly FNAWS, has successfully protected and restored wild
sheep populations throughout North America. At the time of early settlement in the West, bighorn sheep populations may have been as high as 2 million animals. By the mid-1970’s that number had declined to fewer than
15,000. Today, largely due to the efforts of the Wild Sheep Foundation, bighorn sheep numbers have rebounded to
over 70,000 (with the inclusion of Dall’s & Stone’s sheep there are about 200,000). The early declines were due to
diseases transmitted by domestic sheep and unregulated harvest.
> HELLS YEAH!!
WSF has been actively involved
in the Hells Canyon wild sheep
recovery and protection efforts
since 1979. In 1997, WSF was one
of the original partners in the Hells
Canyon Initiative, and has funded
more than $600,000 to this project
alone, which is aimed at assuring
bighorn sheep recovery in the
Hells Canyon region, and continues
to be an active participant in the
Initiative’s activities.
Hells Canyon is an especially desirable habitat for the wild sheep.
The Hells Canyon area possesses
high- (summer) and low-elevation
(winter) habitats, desirable forage
such as blue-bunch wheatgrass,
steep rocky escape terrain,
and high-alpine ranges. These
attributes allowed Hells Canyon to
historically support large numbers
of wild sheep.
This ram is an example of the benefits of >
good wildlife conservation. The Wild Sheep
Foundation has generated nearly $80 million
for wildlife conservation.
1 A bighorn lamb has fallen victim to contagious
bacteria transmitted by domestic sheep. This is
the result when the two species are allowed to
interact.
2 This is a deadly combination—when native bighorn sheep are forced to share their range with
introduced domestic sheep & goats bighorns
are the losers.
To date, WSF has generated nearly $80 million for wild sheep recovery programs in North America. These funds
have been used for disease research, habitat acquisitions, habitat restoration, and wild sheep translocations. WSF
commonly works with livestock producers, federal land managers, and state wildlife managers on these projects.
WSF is viewed as a positive partner by livestock producers and land and wildlife management agencies because
we bring ideal solutions to the table, helping the federal land agencies mitigate difficult decisions to resolve
bighorn sheep and domestic sheep conflicts.
3 The Wild Sheep Foundation has funded nearly
$1,000,000 in wild sheep disease research.
Here a bighorn lamb, the victim of pneumonia
transmitted by domestic sheep, is being
necropsy (animal version of autopsy) in an effort
to learn more about wild sheep disease and how
to effectively prevent transmission.
Wild sheep are one of the best indicators of habitat conditions in North America; their well being is usually
reflected in many other species such as deer and elk. They are very susceptible to human induced changes in
their environment. As a species, they depend on reaching old age to sustain their populations, because their
reproductive rates are naturally very low. When stressed by adverse conditions, recruitment levels are reduced
even further, therefore declines in population are inevitable. Currently, disease transmission from domestic sheep
and goats is the primary limiting factor in wild sheep recovery efforts.
WSF has funded a number of disease studies, including research at the University of Idaho’s Caine Research
Center. We also provide funding for an Endowed Chair position at the Washington State University School of
Veterinarian Medicine, which is the current leader in wild sheep disease research. WSF has provided nearly
$1,000,000 for wild sheep disease research.
4 The effort of restoring bighorn sheep requires
a number of tools. One of those tools is
transplants. These types of wildlife restoration
programs are very expensive and would not be
possible without the Wild Sheep Foundation.
Bighorn sheep recovery has been slow, but through the continued efforts by WSF and its chapters, the future looks
promising as this great organization continues to work with federal, provincial, and state agencies on policies that
will further protect the health of bighorn sheep.
For more than 30 years, the Wild Sheep Foundation has been working to enhance wild sheep populations while
benefiting other wildlife.

packs
> Whether it’s only a short hike
to your treestand, or 7 days in
the backcountry, we have a pack
made for you. Our pack-designing
process begins with a realistic
conversation about what size loads
you are going to tackle with the
cubic volume that you are aiming
for. With that in mind, the suspension system is then engineered for
that load, minimizing touch points
with your back to keep you dry and
comfortable. After the suspension is done, we begin a process
that blends form with function.
Very aesthetic lines paired with
functional features culminate in
the Sitka line of packs. Each pack
is clean in design, moving away
from the trend of putting ten times
the pockets you need. Consistent
across the line are strategically
located anchor points with a completely customizable strap system
for whatever your load dictates.

sitka bivy 45
For those short trips where you are going really light
and fast, or you just don’t need much more than your
knife, a little water, and your packable rain system,
the Ascent 8 fits the bill. A molded Nyospan hip belt
is preformed for comfort, with a quilted, Aero Mesh
back panel to keep your lower back dry. Hip pockets
are strategically located for calls, range finders, wind
indicators, or whatever other small items you need.
Rigged and enabled for an internal hydration system,
with hose clips running out on the hip belt for easy
access. Lashing web straps for miscellaneous items
and two large compression wings to hug your load in
tight to your back.
For the ultra-lighter that is going to cover a lot of
ground with all their water on their back. A full Aero
Mesh back panel and shoulder straps maximizes
ventilation for this lightweight rig. Standard Sitka
hip pocket system for key pieces that you need quick
access to. For questionable weather, a detachable rain
fly is stashed away, with easy to use tri-glide attachment system. An oversized stretch-mesh outer pocket
facilitates stuffing quick access pieces that are too big
for your hip belt pockets. An internal hydration system
is backed up by additional side pockets for water
bottles. A slim profile keeps you light on your feet, with
a semi-raked bottom to make sitting more comfortable
when you’re glassing. The Ascent 10 is also rigged with
our new rifle/bow cable system, letting you adjust how
you want either piece to ride on the back of this pack.
The Ascent 14 was built to stoke the ever evolving
demands of a day-hunter. Bolstering a comfortable
1400 cubic inches, no stone was left unturned when
designing this pack. With a horseshoe shoulder yoke
build independently of the pack, the hunter enjoys
superior torsional freedom and range of movement.
The pack design allows the shooter to pivot at the hips,
and let the pack twist with his/her torso as opposed
to restricting upper body movement. The Ascent 14 is
featured with pocketed hip belt, pockets and partitions
for gear organization, enabled for a hydration system,
and adjustable frame stay for varying torso lengths.
New stretch-mesh over flow pocket works as a great
catch all, and a detachable rain fly comes stock.
The Flash 20 is a highly technical day pack suited for
long jaunts that may pull the hunter great distances
from the truck. A satisfying 2000 cubic inches provides
enough room for superfluous snacks, water, and even
a small bivy cache. An adjustable configuration of load
& accessory straps gives you the freedom to secure
even the most awkward loads. Detailed with a padded
spotting scope pocket, pocketed waist belt, quickstash mesh pockets, enabled for hydration systems,
and a suspended back to maximize air circulation in
the lumbar region. New for 2010 are a detachable rain
fly system, bra-clip/hypalon strap system, over-sized
stretch mesh outer pockets, and the new gun/bow
cable system.
The big brother of the Flash 20, the Flash 32 sports
many of the same features, but adds more volume for
longer forays. The Flash 32 employs a beefier tension
frame system for heavier loads, new compressionwing design for lightened loads, and the fully adjustable quick-release gun/bow cable system. Enabled for
a 3 liter hydration bladder, the Flash 32 has proven
itself for guides and outfitters that find themselves
carrying gear for two. For your first trip out, an Elk’s
quarter can be shoved inside, with the backstraps tied
on tightly.
Some people thrive on going light. If that’s you, this is
your pack. Built with enough room for the wellpracticed backcountry bivy hunter, the Bivy 30 is right
up your alley. Built into the back panel is a removable
sleeping pad, that doubles as a great glassing pad for
rocky bluffs. Easy to remove lid allows you to decrease
your pack into a manageable day pack. Standard features sets that are consistent with the rest of the Sitka
line up: removable rain fly, tension frame, hydration
system, hip pockets, water bottle pockets, and Aero
mesh shoulder pads. This lean shaped, Alpine inspired
set-up has minimal pockets to reduce weight and force
you to stay light on your feet.
The 45 Bivy is the largest of Sitka’s pack line for 2010.
Coming in at an ample 4500 cubic inches, the 45 Bivy
is sure to satisfy some of the most crippling loads
you can tack on. Two access points to the pack’s main
compartment (top and bottom), give the user quick
access to all his/her gear. An adjustable blaze orange
meat shelf can be unstowed from the bottom partition
and employed to lash additional cargo to the pack’s
exterior. A quick-release rifle/bow sling, removable
pack lid, quick detach rain fly, and designated spotting
scope pocket are only a few of the pack’s many
features. Available in two torso sizes (Regular & Tall),
the 45 Bivy is the pack of choice for those hunters
going afoot for multiple days.
