CancerFree KIDS Board of Trustees Ellen M. Flannery Founder and President Amy Wagner Vice President Chuck Rasch Treasurer April 2011 __ Issue 21 Sue Maples Secretary $1 Million in Research Funded to Date Liz Carr Cincinnati Country Day CancerFree KIDS is very proud to announce that we have crossed the $1 million mark in lifesaving research funded since our inception. According to Executive Director Ellen Flannery “This is truly a milestone for us. Since 2004, we have funded 44 promising research projects, moving us closer to a cure…and we are just getting started. We are so grateful to everyone who has supported us – it is you that makes this funding possible.” Kevin Manley Green Diamond Gallery Christopher Pettigrew Fifth Third Bank Al Early CBTS John Mason IMG College/Bearcats Sports Mktg. Scott Jones Graydon Head Advisory Board Frank Smith, M.D. Cincinnati Children’s Hospital Medical Center Timothy Cripe, MD, PhD Associate Professor of Pediatrics, Cincinnati Children’s Hospital Medical Center This month, $180,000 in grants was awarded to a record number of research projects at Cincinnati Children’s Hospital. And for the first time, a grant of $20,000 was given to promising research happening at the University of Miami/Sylvester Comprehensive Cancer Center. “This is the first grant we have given outside of Cincinnati, inspired by the support of Miami-area fundraisers such as Reason to Run and Reason to Race. We are excited about the new partnership and grateful for the support of Miami-area individuals and sponsors!” In addition, CancerFree KIDS was one of the sponsors of a Pediatric Brain Cancer Symposium at Cincinnati Children’s Hospital that brought together researchers from all over the world to collaborate. Some of the research that results from this symposium will be funded jointly by the sponsoring organizations. We believe this is a new model for funding research in a more impactful way, leveraging our donors’ dollars and escalating the search for a cure. For more information on all research projects, please visit www.cancerfreekids.org. Thank you to our Sponsors!
