Dear Kent Schools Community and Sports Fans,
On behalf of all Kent students, I offer you—the Kent community and sports
fans—my deepest appreciation for your support of our student athletes. With
your financial help, we are able to continue the excellence of our sports, activities, and academic programs.
Our student athletes learn many important lessons from their team sports.
Among the benefits of their athletic experiences are lessons such as team
work, extension of family, satisfaction of achievement due to hard work, skills
on the field and court, and relationships. Of course, the enjoyment and gratification of participating and winning belong at the top of the list.
So, I speak on behalf of Kent students, staff, parents, and community when
I welcome you to the 2013-2014 sports seasons. We look forward to another

The history of “Script Kent” begins with the premier performance in the Fall of 1975 and was initiated by Jack Liles in his only year of service as
band director at Roosevelt High School. Mr. Liles, former band director, had roots in the Ohio State University band and brought the tradition
to RHS. During the Fall of 1976 season new band director, Thomas Knapp, did not use the drill, but bowing to public requests, the drill returned
in 1977 and has been performed annually. Prior to Mr. Knapp’s untimely death in 1981, the concept of “Script Kent” in the dark was introduced
and performed every other year, alternating with lights on. William Davis, who first came to Roosevelt as band director in 1982, continued
the alternating years concept until band seniors expressed their desire to perform “in the dark” every year so that no senior class missed the
opportunity. It was decided to perform “in the dark” yearly until the audience lost interest in the concept - which until this time has not happened
- with large crowds continuing to attend this annual event. This year’s performance on Friday, November 1, marks the 36th performance.
