Ken??? Is it true that the Bishop has a special chair in his church? Are other people allowed to sit in it when he is not there? Every Diocese has a main church, called a cathedral. For the Diocese of Fort Worth it is Saint Patrick Cathedral downtown. Each cathedral has a special bishop's chair or cathedra, which is the Latin word for chair. That chair is a visible sign of the bishop's authority in the Catholic Church. The cathedra is used by Bishop Michael Olson when he is celebrating Mass or special sacraments. He is the official pastor at St. Patrick Cathedral. In a cathedral there are other seats on the altar used by priests who might be celebrating Mass there. Only the Bishop uses the Cathedra at the cathedral, it is a seat reserved for him. The universal Church is centered in Rome under the leadership of The Holy Father (Pope Francis). As the Bishop of Rome, Pope Francis' cathedra is at St. John Lateran, the first of four major churches of Rome. The cathedra Pope Francis uses is similar to a bishop’s chair in every cathedral church. If you wonder about the Catholic Church or Faith, please ask!! Fr. Ken is happy to answer any questions you might have! She was born August 26, 1910 in Macedonia. Her name was Agnes Gonxha Bojaxhiu Her father died when she was 8 and she lived with her mother and two sisters. When she was 18 she joined the Sisters of Loreto, and she took her vows as a nun in 1931 choosing the name Teresa to honor St. Teresa of Avila and St. Teresa of Lisieux. She began teaching wealthy families in Calcutta at St. Mary’s and stayed for 15 years but was bothered by the poverty she saw. In 1946 she realized Christ was calling her to follow him to the slums and serve the poorest people. She began teaching the poor to read. In four years she started a Mission of Charity with the help of volunteers and donations. Then she opened a hospice, a home for sufferers of leprosy, a home for orphans and homeless youth. Her mission was to care for “the hungry, the naked, the homeless, the crippled, the blind, the lepers, all those people who feel unwanted, unloved, uncared for in society.” She won many awards in her lifetime—including the Nobel Peace Prize. She continued her work with the poor until she died on September 5, 1997 in Calcutta, India. Pope Francis declared Mother Teresa a Saint on September 4, 2016! “Let us carry Mother Teresa’s smile in our hearts and give it those whom we meet along our journey.” Pope Francis—September 4, 2016 November 1st All Saints’ Day Holy Days of Obligation Interpreted Masses 8:00 am 7:00 pm 7:00 pm All Saints 214 SW 20th St. Fort Worth, TX 76104 St. Elizabeth Ann Seton 2016 Willis Lane Keller, Texas 76248 St. Francis of Assisi 861 Wildwood Lane Grapevine, TX 76051 December 8th Feast of the Immaculate Conception October 2016 Sun Mon Tue Wed Thu Fri Sat 1 St. Therese of Lisieux 2 3 Deaf Community Mass with Bishop Olson St. Rita @ 2:00pm 9 4 5 6 7 8 Regularly Interpreted Masses Rosh Hashanah Jewish New Year 10 St. Bruno 11 12 13 14 15 Regularly Interpreted Masses St. Teresa of Avila Columbus Day 16 17 18 19 20 21 Regularly Interpreted Masses 22 St. John Paul II St. Ignatius of Antioch 23 St. John de Brebeuf 25 24 Regularly Interpreted Masses 26 27 28 Regularly Interpreted Masses 30 31 Sts.
