THE DAMASCUS
CRIER
Message from our Principal
Dear Parents and Students:
A Prayer for Thanksgiving
Thank you, Father, for having
created us and given us to each
other in the human family. Thank
you for being with us in all our
joys and sorrows, for your
comfort in our sadness, your
companionship in our loneliness.
Thank you for yesterday, today,
tomorrow and for the whole of our
lives. Thank you for friends, for
health and for grace. May we live

Adopted Family Program—Christmas 2011
It is not how much we do, but how much love we put in the
doing.
It is not how much we give, but how much love we put in the
giving.
Mother Teresa
Every year we run an Adopted Family program from The Centre for
Learning @HOME to help families in need over the Christmas
period.
In the past, from September until December, we have collected gift
cards, cash and items that they require, from members of The
Centre for Learning @HOME from a list created by the family
themselves.
Money donated via Visa or MasterCard – We are able to
give tax receipts on request for donations over $20.
Money will be used to purchase Gift Cards required by the
family.
Call Marilyn Wright on 938 8046 ext 222 to do this.
Items – Once our lists are compiled, we will send out the
family requirements. I ask for local families within the area
of each Adopted Family to take care of item collection and
delivery for these families. We do not have the room in the
office to collect these, so please do not send any items to
me.
How can you help?
Gift certificates – We are able to give tax receipts on request with
a receipt for the purchase. This is the best way to support our
families as they are easy to pas on. Gift Certificates can be
dropped at the office in Okotoks or sent to:
Ruth Barrett

Magazines – Each year we offer magazine subscriptions
and a portion of the cost is donated to the Adopted Family.
Please watch Announcements for further details.

Comments
Our family would like to first take the time to say thank you to all who are able to help, as we know times are tough
everywhere. Due to medical issues including kidney transplant, hernia repairs, and low immune system, our family
has only one income. So our budget is very tight. Any help would be greatly appreciated. Thank you.
Please remember – WE ask the family to put EVERYTHING down that they need or want. Some items might
sound extravagant but we have received many wonderful items that others do not want and are happy to
donate - even a car!
Your cash donations are spent on our main focus which is food and clothing.

Personal Notes or Comments.
I was injured several years ago, leaving me disabled without the use of a limb and with severe
chronic pain disability and am unable to work.
My doctors have predicted I will be bedridden for quite a while after the birth of the baby in October.
We have no family to assist us in Alberta and my husband will take parental leave to help me during
this time. This is why I requested some housekeeping assistance if it exists.
Due to the set up of our home, I will be trapped upstairs as I cannot manage the stairs so that is why
there is a request for a bar fridge. I am unable to nurse due to my disability so requested bottles,
and warmer etc. and also the chair.
If someone knows of a four bed-roomed house for rent for $1000, pet friendly, within commuting
distance of Edmonton I would love to know about it as our townhouse is bulging at the seams.
Thank you in advance for any help you can provide.

Husband limited due to injury from H1N1. Mum sick with rheumatoid arthritis. Often in hospital. Daughter has post traumatic stress disorder. We want to do things as a family, hence the boat, as we are under a lot of stress and there is a

Any of these will do for us. We appreciate what you are doing for my children and my family. It has been really hard to get back on our
feet since we lost our home in Carstairs. Our only vehicle and means of transportation has needed many repairs and that has put us
behind in many ways. We are finding ourselves struggling with providing a Christmas for our children and we are blessed by being
adopted this year. We thank you in advance for thinking of us. God bless your hearts.
