Two months and counting until leagues start! This year is a very special year for our Chapter as
we hope to see lots of growth and to help meet everyone’s expectations.
Your Board has put together many great golf events and added leagues for this year. We also will
be bringing you some social events to just get together and have fun with your EWGA friends.
You recently received information in an e-blast about an interesting new pre-season golf league
that plays target golf. It sounds like so much fun as we prepare for the season. The Website has
had some improvements you will see when you visit various pages and when you sign up for
events. Of course we are again reminding you about our Kick-off on April 5th and to sign up
ASAP. We have a larger facility this year that we think you will enjoy as we start our golf season.

Last month I said I would talk more about how you can help and be more a part of our Chicago
EWGA. Based on goals and needs, the theme of:
The Spirit of Chicago Metro EWGA
“All - 4 - 1 and One for All !”
This explains how great our chapter is and can become.
See what it means below!
Most of our Chapter goals center on increasing membership and providing programs to meet the
needs of our members. Your volunteer chapter leaders do a great job and could use just a little
help. It is so true that many would love to help but do not feel they have the time with job and
family demands. That is exactly who meets the chapter needs. It describes most of us.
One member told me this fall, “You know, I have been a member for quite awhile, I guess it is
time I help out a little bit”. And another member said at the Holiday party, “I would love to help,
but do not know what is needed”. Over time we will answer those questions.
Arlene Fine
Just think, if All members gave just 4 hours of their time during the entire year, how much we
could get done. Let me give you a few examples.
Leadership *
[email protected]
1. From home, you could personally call and welcome a new member to EWGA and help answer
their questions
Laurie Taylor
2. At an event, you could help get door prizes prior to the event or help package up gift bags at
the event,

3. You could help keep track of our participation statistics on a spread sheet
4. We could have a sub-committee where each person would work just one golf event selling
mulligans or working a “closest to the pin” game to raise funds for Breast Cancer research. Calling all you Breast cancer survivors, join me and let us celebrate our survival and EWGA helping
others.
5. Maybe you would run some games in your weekly league.
Whatever works for you will work for us!
Ok – so I told you about what the 4 stand for, what about the 1. That is easy! All members try to
find one new member! That is it, just one member.
Last year one of our members invited four friends to meet her for lunch to share information
about our EWGA Chapter.
Windy City Tee Time News
Page 3
Letter from the President (continued)
No pressure, no push, just a fun time with friends explaining what EWGA offers. Learn, play and enjoy the game of golf for business
and life….and make many new friends.
So that is it. “ALL 4 1 and ONE for ALL”
Each one of us contributes 4 hours of time helping and get one new member. From doing that, each ONE person benefits ALL!
So what do you think? What could you do? Some may say, I am not sure I have enough information – yes you do, by what you have
had fun doing in EWGA. If you need more information, we can help. We will try to meet everyone’s request to help, but in some
cases, we may need your help later rather than sooner….whatever works for you.
Soon, we will be providing you information and an interest sheet about ways in which you can share your talents in our organization.
The best thing about being involved is meeting more people and having fun! I have truly loved getting to know so many people in
the few years I have been in EWGA.
This last month your vice president Dena Lamb and I attended a wonderful EWGA leadership
conference. From the meetings and just talking with national and chapter leaders we learned so much
and made many new friends! You really bond when you play golf when it starts to hail. We were quite
a sight!
If you have any ideas, questions, or brilliant brainstorms that come your way, send us an e-mail. I am
looking forward to seeing you in April! Next month, I hope to share some things I have learned about
EWGA this past year in “Did You Know!”
Have a great March!

EWGA Chicago Metro Refund Policy
EWGA Chicago Metro Board of Directors 2007-2008
Just as a review for all, the Chicago Metro refund policy is as follows:
No league refunds after the first week of each league session. For all other events, no refunds after the registration
deadline unless the event is cancelled by EWGA Chicago Metro or the golf course or other venue. Expenditures for
processing fees and deposits will not be refunded.
As a reminder in the a member can always get a substitute to take their place at an event or league date. For events:
Substitutes are allowed if you are unable to attend an event. Contact the Event Coordinator to let them know that you
have a substitute. The substitute should pay you directly.
For Leagues: League players will not receive a refund for the sessions that they do not attend. If a substitute is found, the
substitute should pay the league player directly. The fee is the average cost of the session. A non-member may play in a
league ONLY ONCE in a season as a guest. This includes substitutes, even if they are playing for another member and
reimbursing the green fees. Further league participation requires membership in EWGA
Site Captains are not responsible for collecting green fees from substituting players.
Membership dues are nonrefundable.

2008 Kickoff Volunteers Needed
Page 4
As you all know, it takes a lot of hard work and many volunteers to make the Annual Kickoff (and other events) successful. This
year is no exception and we want it to be the best ever. It can be with your help.
The Kickoff will be on Saturday, April 5th at Esplanade Lakes by DoubleTree in Downers Grove starting at 9:00 for returning members and 8:30 for new and prospective members. In order to make things easier and run more efficiently, we need
volunteers for several activities. If there is anything that you can possibly do to help accomplish our goal please notify me or
Arlene Fine (email: [email protected]) as soon as possible.
These are what we need the most:
•
•
•
•
•
Volunteers to help the new and prospective members feel comfortable and guide them through the signing up process etc. It
would be really good if we could get newer members who have recently been through it themselves.
Volunteers to sell drawing tickets.
Volunteers to obtain donations for give-aways. (Everyone likes something for nothing, don't they?)
Volunteers for setup or take down
And most importantly, any suggestions that you may have to help attain our goal for the smoothest Kickoff ever
Please feel free to contact me or any board member, but please let us know as soon as possible so we can include YOU in our plans.
Sincerely: Emma Anderson, Social Chair (847) 340-8216 or via email:

GOLF CLUB NETWORK
The Executive Women's Golf Association (EWGA) Golf Club Network provides one of the most valued benefits of EWGA membership - reduced fees for play, practice or instruction. Members of the EWGA Golf Club Network are not affiliated with specific
local EWGA Chapters. Rather, the opportunity exists for facilities to develop these relationships directly with local EWGA Chapters as they showcase their facility to EWGA Chapters and members from across the Association. In Illinois we have: Whisper Creek
Golf Course in Huntley and TPC Deere Run in Silvis (near Moline)

2008 League Information
Our 2008 Leagues are being finalized. Those attending the Kick-Off event on April 5th. will be able to register
for their specific leagues. General League registration will open on our web-site the Monday following the
Kick-Off.
News:
1. MAROVITZ - MONDAYS: We are looking for one or two people to take over the Site-Captain's spot. As you
know, Karen Kadlec is retiring as site-captain. She has done a wonderful job these past
years and we really will miss her "guiding hand". Unfortunately, if we cannot find someone to take
over, we'll have to cancel the league this season. If you're interested, please contact me at [email protected]. We walk new site captains through what needs to be done
2. TAM - WEDNESDAYS: We are able to start another league at TAM on Wednesdays. We have limited
availability. If you are interested or need more information, please contact Site-Captain Judi Krotz at
[email protected].
Hope to see all of you at the KICK-OFF.

Handicap Corner
Have you ever asked yourself “Why should I keep a handicap? I’m a new golfer…” or “Why should I
keep a handicap? I’m not a very good golfer….” Here are a few reasons why you should keep a handicap:
• Keeping your handicap is a great way to track your improvement – whether you’re a new or seasoned
golfer, it’s a wonderful feeling when you see your Handicap Index or Trend go down.
• You need to have a Handicap Index to play in official EWGA handicap events such as the EWGA
Chapter Championship.
If you want to play in “Net” score events or if you want to have a friendly Low-Net competition when
you’re playing with friends/significant others, you need to have a Handicap Index to know how many
strokes to subtract from your Gross score in order to calculate your Net score.
There are two Handicapping Systems available to EWGA Chicago Metro Chapter members:
•
Golf Life Management System (GLMS) which is included in your EWGA Membership. This
Handicap is valid for all EWGA events. Visit www.ewga.com/ for more information.
• CDGA (Chicago District Golf Association). As a member of EWGA there is a fee of $25 to keep
your Handicap Index with the CDGA system. If you wish to compete in any CDGA events, you must
maintain your handicap in the CDGA Handicap system. Their website: http://www.cdga.org/ for more
information and list of additional benefits.
“Counting on your
opponent to inform you
when she breaks a rule is
like expecting him to make
fun of her own haircut.”

GLMS or with CDGA, use this link to go to the “All About Handicaps” page on our EWGA-Chicago
website. www.ewgachicago.org/handicaps.shtml
Have fun and learn more about the benefits of keeping your handicap and how to make best use of the
systems… A FREE seminar for EWGA members and their guests will be held on Saturday, May 3rd from 1
to 3 p.m. at the Midwest Golf House, 11855 Archer Avenue, Lemont, Il. Go to: http://

February Board Meeting Summary
Page 7
On Sunday, February 17th, the monthly chapter board meeting was held at Club Casa Café in Des
Plaines. President Alice Davitt presided over the meeting with 15 board members in attendance. The
following are highlights from the meeting:
Esplanade Lakes in Downers Grove was secured for the 2008 Kick-Off on Saturday, April 5th. The
cost will be $27.00 per person and the Keynote Speaker will be Christine Regenberg, the Northwestern
Wildcats Women’s Golf Coach and Coach of the Year for 1999-2000.
Alice and Dena Lamb, VP, attended the EWGA Leadership Conference in California and reported that
the conference was very informative, providing great ideas on running our chapter.
Our website has undergone several improvements in the registration process and will be ready for updating for the 2008 leagues and events very soon. EWGA Milwaukee Chapter has offered to pay us
$750 for the use of our website format – we have agreed and the money will be use to provide additional upgrades to our site. This is a great compliment to Kris Ward, our webmaster and our web designer, Paul Landerman of Lando-Links, Inc.
New Chapter brochures were finalized and will be printed for distribution throughout the Chicago
Metro area.
The Susan G Komen for the Cure will be the beneficiary of our chapter’s charitable works. There
will be a fund raising opportunity at each event held throughout the 2008 season.
A new program called “Just Golf” will be developed this season. This will be single dates of golf arranged on Saturdays and/or Sundays. Members can sign up for any ones they choose. Locations will
be varied along with the times, dates and prices.
Carol Rhoades, PGA and LPGA Golf Professional invited our chapter to participate in the Illinois
PGA Exhibit at the Chicago Golf Show in Rosemont on Feb 29th – Mar. 2nd. We will have a table and
pass out information regarding EWGA.
Committee Chairs gave their respective reports, highlights include:
Membership – course for member/guest event will be either Lincolnshire Marriott or Deerfield Golf Course
Sponsorship – New sponsorship guidelines were distributed. We already have three vendors
for the kick-off, two printers to bid on membership directories and one potential large corporate sponsor.
Education – The sessions at White Pines Dome have been moved to 7 p.m.
Golf Events – Erin Flanagan volunteered to coordinate the networking event to be scheduled
some time in June – it will be an 18-hole event.
Handicap – There will be a free EWGA Handicap Seminar held at the Midwest Golf House
in Lemont on Saturday, May 3rd, from 1 – 3 p.m.
Leagues – The site captain meeting was held and all site captains and assistants are in place.
There are 21 leagues.
