Joe Lopez
Selma Assistant Branch Manager
Joe Lopez appreciates his position with EECU because
of the credit union’s loyalty to its membership and staff.
“I’m fortunate to be working for EECU,” Joe says.
“This organization is committed to its members
and employees.”
Joe, who has been the Selma assistant branch manager
for seven years, says EECU strives to offer services and
products that meet the needs of members, who in turn
are grateful. “You can tell the members love us when
they come in,” he says.
The branch’s good standing and reputation in the
community were acknowledged when the Selma
Chamber of Commerce selected the branch as the
Industry of the Year in 2012, a recognition that brought
much pride to Joe and his co-workers.
Joe, a 12-year EECU employee, says his co-workers
motivate him to do his job to the best of his abilities.
That in turn inspires him to help them grow within the
credit union. The Selma branch’s cordial atmosphere
fosters more than just a positive work environment. “I
feel I have two families,” Joe says, “my family at home
and my family at the Selma branch.”
Joe, his wife, Melissa – a registered nurse – and their
four children live in Sanger where he was born and
raised. He and his family spend much of their time
at the children’s athletic events. Joe also coaches
youth football and baseball. The family also enjoys a
longstanding tradition of annual summer camping
trips to Capitola with other relatives.

Joe credits his father with instilling in him a strong
work ethic, which he is passing on to his children. “My
father would tell me, ‘Nothing will be handed to you,’ ”
Joe says. “ ‘You need to work for it.’ ”

Children’s Book Author
Betty Winter never imagined herself as a writer. Seeing
her grandson playing in a pile of leaves years ago changed
that. Now Betty is the proud author of a children’s book
titled, “A Pumpkin for Max.”
“This story was in my heart for a very long time,” she says.
“I just created the book out of a beautiful experience
that I had on a beautiful day.”
Betty was inspired to write the book after a visit
to see her daughter and her family in Yakima,
Washington, about 15 years ago. Watching her

In April, EECU will celebrate 80 years in business. Over the years we have added
branches, opened ATMs, introduced new products and services, improved our
technology, and expanded our field of membership. Providing our members
with products and services that enhance their financial lives is as important
today as it was 80 years ago. Today, we are proud to be the largest credit union
based in the central San Joaquin Valley, serving more than 220,000 members
withover$2billioninassets.
Our Board of Directors and management team are committed to sound
business practices that ensure the financial strength and stability of EECU.
Credit unions have a tradition of promoting thrift among their members, and
we believe it is our responsibility to provide you with resources and tools that
help you build a strong and stable financial future.
Advances in technology have dramatically changed the way consumers interact
with their finances. Keeping pace with technology is a priority at EECU. Last
year we introduced mobile deposit, a new feature of our mobile banking app.
Mobile deposit allows you to take a picture of your check with your iPhone or
Android smartphone and deposit it directly to your account. In the coming
months, this service will also be available through the iPad tablet.

We enhanced our financial education last year by introducing our Smarter

securing your mobile device, and more. We will continue to look for creative
ways to educate our members about their finances.
At EECU, we consider it a privilege to do business in the communities we serve,
and we believe in supporting organizations and events that make life better
for everyone involved. Last year, we provided a substantial donation to help
establish Central Valley Honor Flight, an organization that flies World War
II veterans to Washington, D.C., to see their memorial. The inaugural flight
was last October, and it was an emotional experience for the 69 veterans and
their guardians on board. We proudly salute these brave heroes who fought for
our freedom.
Our employees volunteered to clean up and refurbish Camp Green Meadows, a
popular outdoor school near Yosemite National Park. The volunteers split and
stacked wood, painted picnic tables, constructed a retaining wall, rebuilt an
archery backstop, planted flowers, and undertook other general maintenance.
EECU employees also volunteered their time in support of the March of Dimes,
At EECU, we’re not shy about saying that we LOVE our members.

summer, we held a member appreciation day and provided free

enjoyed the opportunity to show you how much we value your

EECU Donation Aids Central Valley Honor Flight
A group of 69 World War II veterans traveled to Washington,
D.C., to see their memorial on the inaugural Central Valley
Honor Flight, thanks in part to a large EECU donation.
EECU donated $24,250, which helped establish the
Honor Flight chapter and covered about 20 percent of the
expenses for the trip last October. EECU pledged $50 to
the organization for every auto loan financed from mid- to
late May.

thankful to see their memorial. Infantry Army veteran
Arlanda Ritchie, 93, was appreciative of the trip’s donors and organizers. “I think that the people who made this possible
are honorable people,” said Ritchie, an EECU member. “It was a wonderful trip.”
The WWII veterans also visited many other memorials, witnessed the Changing of the Guard at the Tomb of the Unknowns
at Arlington National Cemetery, and were guests at a Library of Congress lunch hosted by members of Congress from the
central San Joaquin Valley.
The recently established Central Valley Honor Flight chapter is one of more than 100 hubs across the U.S. devoted to sending
veterans to Washington to commemorate their sacrifice and service to our country.
The Central Valley chapter’s next Honor Flight trip is planned for this spring.
