SASBO Discovery Forum - Thursday, April 16, 2015 8:45 am – 4:00 pm
You will be part of a small group of your fellow conference attendees. Choose from six tracks featuring interactive
sessions. The tracks will feature hands on training in technology, leadership and personal enrichment where you will be
engaged, challenged and your natural curiosity ignited. The discovery forum is a condensed version of SASBO
Leadership Summit.
Track One
“How to Earn Straight C’s on Your Report Card.” Now that everything is digital, mobile, and social, it is essential that
you think outside the box, outside the book, and outside the classroom, when it comes to teaching and learning. Starting
with ourselves as learners as well as leaders, you can model the rich, community-driven experiences that you want for
your students. Then you can see that being a “C” student is not such a bad thing in the context of inspiring students to
create, communicate, collaborate and think critically. Then you will go “Back to the Future” and work in collaborative
teams. You will put your creativity and teamwork skills to the test as you build life-size hovercrafts that you will race at the
end of the session. No tools required. Having fun is mandatory. Next it is “Storytelling for the YouTube Generation.”
Everyone has a camera in their pocket and easy access to video tools that rival professional movie studios. How do you
use these powerful technologies in the classroom and in your work? In this session, you will explore a series of several
different YouTube videos and genres. You will analyze the original video and break down what exactly is so appealing
about it and how you can use simple technologies to replicate those ideas. Then you will take your hovercraft experience
viral as you work together to create digital stories for the world to see.
Presenters: Discovery Education team members: Steve Dembo, Brad Fountain, Dean Shareski, Lance Rougeux, Kyle
