GRADUATE Ashley Grey Medical Radiation Technologist, Counties Manukau District Health Board, Radiology Department Bachelor of Health Science (Medical Imaging) “I originally wanted to be a dancer, but injuries prevented this. The many x-rays, MRI scans, nuclear medicine scans and ultrasound scans I had along the way unlocked a new interest in radiology. The medical imaging programme at Unitec is a mixture of theory and practice. It’s hard work – you often spend your holidays in clinical placements - but the small classes allow you to build strong relationships with your classmates and tutors. A proud moment for me was receiving the Unitec Senior Scholar Award at graduation, which shows that hard work does pay off! My qualification is 100% relevant to my job now. Having a clinical placement at Middlemore Hospital really helped me as I was exposed to working life as a radiographer from day one. I love that no day is ever the same. Radiation technologists work all over the hospital (general, emergency, superclinic, theatre, screening), and I really enjoy this fast-paced environment. I don’t know yet where my future will take me but there are so many opportunities with a medical imaging degree. I could do postgraduate study in mammography, ultrasound, MRI or nuclear medicine, or I could even travel abroad with my degree.” HEALTH www.unitec.ac.nz/imaging | www.unitec.ac.nz/health | www.unitec.ac.nz/osteopathy 40 HEALTH HEALTH NATIONAL CERTIFICATE IN MENTAL HEALTH AND ADDICTION SUPPORT Level: 4, 120 credits Additional requirements: Course description: Develop the skills Career opportunities: Duration: 40 weeks You will need to have a current CPR to become a safe and effective mental >Counsellor Intake: July and first aid certificate that is valid health support worker and gain a basic > Social worker English: IELTS (Academic) for the duration of the programme, understanding of mental health issues. > Mental health worker 5.5 with no score lower than interview, CV, references and 5.0; or equivalent statement of purpose. For hints and tips about putting portfolios together, please see http://www.unitec.ac.nz/future-students/enrolment/ admission-requirements/portfolios/portfolios_home.cfm » Statement of purpose (SOP) giving your motivation for study, career goals etc (see below for more details) » Up to date CV showing your past study, work history (paid, part-time, voluntary etc), interests etc » References confirming your work experience, if available (some programmes require work experience and applications for these will not be assessed until the references are provided – please refer to the programme’s details in this prospectus or on Unitec website for more details) Statement of Purpose FAQs Who can write my SOP? SOPs must be written by the student applying for the programme. Can I copy the SOP or ask someone else to write it for me? No - it is very important that you write your own statement. Do not ask a friend, agent, or family member to do it for you, and please do not copy paragraphs from Unitec or other websites. We want to know why you want to study with us, and only you can tell us this. Why do I have to write an SOP? Mainly to help Unitec understand why you are applying for the programme you selected, and whether it is likely to meet your needs. The SOP does not affect whether you meet the general entry requirements. What do I need to include in my SOP? » Your name (and your Unitec ID number if you have it) » The Unitec programme you want to study (we cannot proceed if your SOP is about another institution or a programme we do not offer) » Your motivation for applying – in other words, › what interests you about this programme or area of study? › what do you hope to get out of your study? » Some thoughts about your future plans - you could tell us about › further study you might be planning to do after completing this programme › whether you want to work in NZ (or in another country) afterwards › what kind of work you think you might like to do Is there anything I should NOT put in my SOP? Please do NOT include the following: » Paragraphs or lists of courses from Unitec’s website (or other websites promoting NZ) » Paragraphs copied from SOPs other students have written » You can mention your work experience if relevant, but full details should go on your CV or resumé How long does my SOP need to be? One page(about 3-4 paragraphs) is enough, if you give us the information we are asking for in these guidelines.
