President report – October 2015
Hi everyone, I can’t believe we’re nearing the end of 2016 – don’t worry we’ve kept the best for last !
On Sunday 27 September we held our last Closed Unrestricted competition for the year and the support
was once again unbelievable with 50 riders competing in close to 150 tests. Thank you so much to our
wonderful judges on the day: Dixie Walker, Mel Lowe, Angela Harrigan, Trish Easey and John Bellanto
And all our fabulous helpers: Allissia Curry, Anja Spek, Julie Inglis, Deb Fulwood, Julie Scott, Meg Drury,
Helen Greer, Kathryn Jones, Rachel Stafford, Stephanie Bellanto, Trish Easey, Kathy Smith, Breanna
Harrigan, Judy Evans, Debbie Watson, Judith Roughley, Marion Frendin, Sue Thomas, Gavin Inglis, Yvonne
Lea, Annette Denby & of course our Hostess with the Mostess Margaret Finucane.
Thank you to the very many other people who lend a hand where they could on the day and with packing
up at the end of the day – we couldn’t run the days without you!

There might only be 3 months left in 2016 but they do include some awesome TDC events. We look
forward to seeing you there so hold these dates:

Sun 25 October – 9.30am to 12pm – Open Arena Day & FREESTYLE PRACTICE opportunity
We’ll be bringing out the jukebox so that you can practice your freestyle/pas de deux etc!
We’ll also be organising some opportunities to practice our freestyles at AELEC prior to the
competition – watch this space for dates
Sat 21 & Sun 22 November – Official & Closed Unrestricted competition @ AELEC
With a freestyle competition on Saturday night under lights in the indoor arena!!
Freestyle classes: novice, elementary, medium, advanced & open (FEI levels available on request)
Sun 22 & Mon 23 November – Judges clinic with 4**** FEI judge Ricky McMillan (see flyer below)
Sat 28 November – Member High Point presentation night @ Southgate Inn INVITATION BELOW
2-course meal: $25 per adult & $10 per child (subsidised by TDC)

Glossary of Dressage Terms to help you understand your marks and
comments
O
OBEDIENCE
Willingness to perform the movement, transition, or figure asked by the rider. May demonstrate resistance
or evasion, yet still be “obedient” (e.g., the horse may perform a series of flying changes without mistakes
and in the right place but is behind the bit, tilted in the head with mouth open and tail swishing, reluctant
to cover enough ground, etc.; thus he obediently performs the task, but not necessarily submissively,
supplely, etc.).
ON THE AIDS
Well-connected, on the bit, and calmly and immediately responsive and obedient.
ON THE BIT
Acceptance of contact (without resistance or evasion) with a stretched topline and with lateral and
longitudinal flexion as required. The horse’s face line is at or slightly in front of the vertical.
ON THE FOREHAND
Poor longitudinal balance, in which the forelegs push the horse forward rather than pushing the forehand
upward and body weight backward. Not necessarily an issue of neck carriage/height.
OUT BEHIND
The hind legs are placed, or act, behind the horse’s body.
OUTLINE
The profile or silhouette of the horse, showing the horse’s carriage or posture.
OUTSIDE, OUTER, OUTWARDS
1. The direction away from which the horse should be positioned or bent.
2. The side that is away from the center of the arena. The former takes precedence if the two are not the
same (as in counter-canter or renvers).
OVERBENT/OVERBENDING
Excessive lateral displacement of the neck relative to the horse’s body, occurring in the neck itself or at the
base of the neck, causing lack of apparent uniformity of the lateral curve of the “bent” horse.
OVERFLEXED
Behind the vertical, due to excessive longitudinal flexion in the poll and/or upper joints of the neck.
OVERSTEP, OVERSTRIDE, OVERTRACK
The placement of the hind foot in front of the print of the forefoot.


NSW State Dressage Championships
Tamworth was well represented at the recent championships held from the 4 th- 7th of September at
SIEC. As always there was very stiff competition drawing competitors from QLD and WA. The quality of
horses at this year’s competition was fantastic to see and a great experience for the young and young
at heart. This year seen the inclusion of Open, Amateur owner, Pony and Para events. As a competitor
and spectator this format seemed to work well allowing everyone to watch and learn from some of the
professional riders.
Our contingent consisted of
Deb Fullwood riding Gwendalan Luca in the Novice classes,
Kay Knight riding Willowglen Kirrawee in the Novice classes
Allissia Curry riding Hightop Park Pzazz in the Pony Elementary and Medium classes, a 4th and 3rd
respectively
Kerry Crees riding Argentille Illyssa in the Open Elementary classes
Anna Fullaton riding NB Floriana in the Open Preliminary classes
Erica Kelly riding Aspenview Anastaisa in the Open Preliminary classes
Pam Seccombe riding Luminderry in the Novice AOR bringing home a 1st and a 14th
I’m sure I can speak for the above ladies when I say that a lot was learnt over the weekend and lots to
put into practice looking forward to perhaps a bigger and better 2016 championships. Well done to you
all and I can’t wait to see what the Tamworth Dressage Club can put forward next Year.
