I would also like to take
the opportunity to remind
all parents about some key
safety concerns especially
around dropping children
off in the morning and
collecting them of an
evening. With these very
cold and wet conditions
visibility is certainly
impaired and the need to
stick to the 40km per hour
speed restrictions, no
double parking and
adhering to correctly using
the drop off zone is
critically important. Our
most concerning times are
when it is raining and
parents are dangerously
double parking vehicles
with children being forced
to weave between cars. I
would also strongly urge all
parents to use the
supervised crossings with
your children at all times.
Your co-operation in these
important safety measures
are greatly appreciated for
our students to remain
safe.
Later this term we will be
holdi ng our sc h ool
production so planning is
now well underway and
students have started
rehearsing for this event.
All children will be involved
and we look forward to a
very enjoyable experience
culminating in a terrific
performance later this
term. Details about ticket
sales will be published very
soon.
Finally, a very big thank
you to all of our Year
Four parents and
students who attended
the Eucharist Sacrament
workshops this week.
Our prayers and best
wishes are extended to
all of these children as
they make their final
preparations to receive
this Sacrament on
Saturday 23rd July.

New Reports 2016!!
Last term you would have noticed a new look report
format. All Victorian schools are mandated to report
in a certain way and therefore there are some aspects
that remain unchanged. This is in line with meeting
Government reporting compliance. Schools recently
however were able to have greater input into
presenting student achievements and general
behaviour and application in a different way. Over a
period of nearly twelve months the staff with input
from our School Advisory Board have developed a
new format which is aimed at presenting student
achievements and areas requiring further work in a
clearer manner. We are therefore seeking some
feedback from parents about how they have found
these new reports. This feedback will help us further
develop and improve our reporting to parents. We
encourage you to either complete a short survey on
the link Report Survey
or attend a very informal feedback session over a
cuppa on Thursday 21st July at 9.15am in the staffroom.
This will run for about twenty minutes. If you are
attending the morning tea feedback session could you
please RSVP on [email protected]
Bell Times and Start of Learning
Please note that the first bell rings at 8.45am. Formal learning commences at 9am sharp. Any child
arriving after 9am is required to go to the office to
get a late slip and will be marked on the attendance roll as ‘late’. To ensure that learning is not interrupted we would encourage all students to be
settled in class prior to 9am.
All school gates are locked at 9am sharp.

Reconciliation before
Eucharist
The church requires that a child
receives the sacrament of
reconciliation before receiving
First Eucharist. It is important to
remember that even though
your child has a sense of right
and wrong, he or she has a
limited sense of sin. His or her
understanding of sin will be
different from your sense of sin.
It is important that a child's
image of God remains a loving
God and that the experience of
reconciliation be a positive
experience where the child
knows that he or she is greatly
loved by God and valued by the
church community.
All students preparing to receive
First Eucharist have received
reconciliation in readiness to
welcome the Lord into their
hearts.

Year 5 will help celebrate the
Eucharist by participating in
the prayers of the
intercessions and the
offertory during their Year
level Parish Mass. This
initiative began several years
ago through an idea had by
parents in the Education and
Faith Sphere.

Victorian Premier’s
Reading Challenge
The total number of books
read so far is: 2,320 and we
have 44 children who have
completed the Challenge. Well
done everyone, such great
reading over the school
holidays!
St. Carlo students have
enjoyed participating in the
Victorian Premier’s Reading
Challenge since 2005. It has
motivated many children to
read and develop a love of
books. The students have
entered into a world of
adventure, magic and suspense
through the imagination and
creativity of the author’s talent
in writing the books.
I would like to thank you the
parents for encouraging your
child to read and develop their
reading skills, especially in
comprehension.
GATEWAYS TERM 3
Later this term in September,
many of our students from
Year 1 to 6 will be attending a
GATEWAYS program titled
“It’s All In The Mind”. Here is
a brief description:

Making sense of the brain's
mind-boggling complexity isn't
easy. What we do know is
that it's the organ that makes
us human, giving us the
capacity for art, language,
moral judgments, and rational
thought. It's also responsible
for each individual's
personality, memories,
movements, and how we
sense the world. In this Eureka
program we will touch on a
number of brain related fields,
from psychology and
philosophy, to neuroscience
and current research into
brain plasticity, all of which
will enable us to understand
the brain’s complexity a little
better. Children will problemsolve, think critically and
creatively, and will also acquire
a ‘toolbox’ of strategies and

PARADE COLLEGE – PLEASE NOTE AMENDMENT TO
YEAR 7 2019 ENROLMENT DATES
CHANGES TO THE ENROLMENT PROCESS FOR
CATHOLIC SECONDARY SCHOOLS
Changes to the timing of the enrolment process for Year 7
enrolments have recently occurred. These changes will affect
enrolments for Year 7 2019 onwards (please see dates below).
Key enrolment dates for Year 7 2018 enrolments remain unchanged
and are currently being accepted. For Year 7 2018 enrolments,
offers will be made to families towards the end of April in the year
prior to commencement.
For enrolments from 2019, offers will be made during October
when your son is in Year 5.

Program Update
Welcome back to what is sure to be a busy Term. Events include:
Cooking week, Cupcake Day for the RSPCA, Book and Science Week as well as Father’s
Day.
As per children request, next week we are going to do numerous cooking
activities like making Sushi, Jelly fruit cups, cookies decoration, fruit kebabs and Gnocchi.
Children will be able to sing to their hearts content on "The Voice" on Tuesday
and have a soccer game on Thursday.
Also, we are going to continue assisting the children with their Homework on Tuesdays
and Wednesdays.
This Term we also welcome Alana, our new Permanent Assistant.
