Shred only what’s necessary, and put shredded paper loose into your yard waste cart instead. 10 Only CFLs – the spiral bulbs – need to be dropped off at a collection site. Just because the bag is green doesn’t mean it’s compostable! Use only approved compostable bags like BioBags. Jack-o-lanterns (remove candle) EXTRA YARD WASTE Extra yard waste can be bundled into 4’x2’ bundles or placed in Kraft bags or 32-gallon containers labeled “Yard” (65 lb. limit). Each extra costs $5.35. If you often have more yard waste than will fit in your cart, an additionall 96-gallon cart is only $13.79 per month. Free food scrap bucket and biodegradable bag samples! Clothing and Linens Needle/Syringes Next to Your Cart Place next to your recycling cart on collection day, in secured plastic bags labeled “textiles.” Drop-Off Sites Donate all clothing and textiles – even ripped and stained – to Goodwill, Value Village, and other partners through the Threadcycle program. Confidential Papers Drop-Off Sites Anonymously dispose of prescription drugs at the Kirkland Justice Center during office hours. Block Styrofoam Drop-Off Sites Recycle block styrofoam at StyroFest, held at the Kirkland Maintenance Center usually once a month on Saturdays. For more information and all 2016 dates, visit kirklandwa.gov and search ‘Styrofest.’ Christmas Tree Drop-Off Sites Find free community shred events on the Attorney General’s website at atg.wa.gov/community-shred-events. Shredding is also available for a charge from private shredding services. Cooking Oil Drop-Off Sites Recycle used cooking oil at the North Kirkland Community Center in a tank at the north end of the parking lot. Plastic Bags Drop-Off Sites Bundle plastic bags and return to grocery stores. Accepted items at bagyourbags.com. Prescription Medication Scrap Metal (Oversize) Oversized scrap metal that won’t fit in your recycling cart can be recycled at the Shoreline Transfer Station. Need help? More sites on kirklandwa.gov/recycle. Recycle Used Oil Next to Your Cart Place in transparent 1-gallon jugs with screw on lids. Label with name and address. Place next to carts. Limit 3 gallons a week. Latex paint is not considered hazardous. It should be dried out and thrown away: (% D`o`eXe\hlXcgXikf]b`kkpc`kk\ikfXe oatmeal consistency. 2. Let sit at least an hour to dry. 3. Throw the dried paint in the trash with the lid off. Recycle CFLs on Your Cart I\hl\jkX:=C9lcYI\ZpZc`e^ Bag from Waste Management at 1-800-592-9995. The bag will be mailed to you. Place the sealed bag on your recycling cart on your collection day. More Drop-Off Sites Recycle up to ten CFL bulbs a day at City Hall, Bartell’s stores and Ace Hardware. Ace Hardware also accepts fluorescent tubes. More sites on lightrecycle.org. COLLECTION GUIDELINES Weather Delays If weather conditions delay collection, Waste Management will collect up to twice as much garbage, recycling and yard waste on your next regular collection day at no extra charge. No credits will be issued for collection delays due to weather.
