Largest Orchid Colony in North America
Purdon Conservation Area, in Lanark Highlands, is a unique
wetland famous for the largest native colony of Showy Lady’s
Slipper Orchids in Canada. Each year between mid-June and early
July the colony bursts into bloom. Call the Bloom Hotline at 613259-5307 ext. 500 for updates to catch the flowers at their peak.

Oldest Canoe Club in Canada
Carleton Place is home to the country’s oldest,
continually operating canoe club – conceived in
1893 as the Ottawa Valley Canoe Association.
The only surviving member of the Canadian
Canoe Association, this is the oldest existing
sprint racing club in Canada. Recognized as
a major centre for recreation and youth training,
it continues to be a leader in the
development of the sport.

Operating between 1903 and
1920, the Silver Queen Mica
Mine was a marvel of its day.
Minerals were shipped by barge
along the Rideau Canal and by
train from Perth. Located within
Murphys Point Provincial Park,
the mine is open for tours in the
summer.
Beautiful Stewart Park, a fiveacre green space along the
Tay River, was donated to the
Town of Perth in memory of the
Honourable John Alexander
Stewart, who was a prominent
figure in the town’s history.

and wetlands. This nature
preserve named “cliffLAND”
honours the Clifford Family;

Orchids at Purdon Conservation
Area are the greatest abundance
found anywhere in Canada – over
16,000 plants. This breathtaking
colony of orchids burst into
bloom every year between mid-June and July.
