Facts About Steel vs. Zinc Higher Quality, Superior Fit 1. Unique clip-in-mass design puts the clip in the mass of the weight for superior fit, just like traditional wheel weights. 2. More one-spin balances. Because steel wheel weights are smaller than other lead-free weights, the center of gravity is closer to the point where the weight is attached, right where the balancer expects it. 3. All BADA® steel wheel weights are treated with a special metallic coating process to enhance corrosion resistance and protect wheel appearance. Not only do we know that steel is preferred to zinc as an alternative to lead wheel weights because of its higher density, superior fit, resistance to corrosion and costeffectiveness, but evidence continues to mount that zinc can be harmful to the environment. Though steel and zinc have emerged as the leading alternatives to lead wheel weights, steel has emerged as the most environmentally friendly substitute to lead. The EPA classifies zinc as a secondary water contaminant, and there is increasing evidence that highlights zinc’s adverse effects to the environment.
