FLAGSTAFF – THE PERFECT
YEAR-ROUND DESTINATION
Surrounded by natural wonders,
Flagstaff boasts a magnificent mountain
setting and small-town university
feel with the amenities of a big city.
The town combines a modern sense
of discovery with a strong Western
legacy, echoing the days of the region’s
pioneer ranchers, railroad builders and
lumbermen.
Flagstaff’s combination of high
altitude, low humidity and diverse
terrain make it the perfect year-round
destination. At 7,000 feet elevation,
Flagstaff is located in the largest
contiguous ponderosa pine forest in the
world. However, ecosystems spanning
piñon-juniper studded plateaus, high

desert, green alpine forest and barren
tundra all can be found within the area.
Rich with excitement and alive with
cultural diversity, beauty and history,
the town attracts visitors from all over
the world, who so appreciate the clean
mountain air, year-round outdoor
recreation, lively festivals and historic
downtown charm that they choose
to make Flagstaff their home. From
log cabins to green-living solutions
and everything in between, Flagstaff

Francisco Peaks as a backdrop,
residents frequently find themselves
lured outside for downhill and crosscountry skiing, or to hike or bike miles
of lush forest trails. Others enjoy a stroll
through the gardens at The Arboretum
at Flagstaff, a lazy day fishing at a local
lake, an evening stargazing through
a century-old telescope at Lowell
Observatory or the opportunity to
experience thrills high in the pines at
Flagstaff Extreme Adventure Course
– Arizona’s only suspended obstacle
course, with 70-plus aerial challenges
for children and adults. Downtown
Flagstaff also offers an eclectic mix of

country surrounds Flagstaff, from
the Coconino National Forest, to the
red rocks of Sedona, to the rugged
deserts of neighboring Native
American nations. Grand Canyon

This picturesque city is surrounded
by red-rock monoliths named
Coffeepot, Cathedral and Thunder
Mountain. At the north end of the city
is the stunning Oak Creek Canyon,
a breathtaking chasm that is wildly
wonderful. Natural endowments aside,
Sedona also boasts world-class hotels,
resorts, bed and breakfast inns and a
variety of fine dining options that draw
raves from residents and visitors alike.
Located in Arizona’s high desert
under the towering southwestern rim
of the vast Colorado Plateau, the city
of Sedona is marked by abundant
sunshine and clean mountain air. The
annual high and low temperatures
average an ideal 74.7 and 45.7 degrees.
Almost the entire world knows that
Sedona is characterized by massive
red-rock formations, as well as the
contrasting riparian areas of Oak
Creek Canyon. The area surrounding
this beloved community is considered
at least as beautiful as many national
parks. Recognized as one of Arizona’s
premier tourism, recreation, resort,
retirement and art centers, the city
of Sedona was incorporated in 1988.
Historically, it was a rural ranching
community located far off the beaten
path, but its unsurpassed natural
beauty became nationally known
through the motion picture industry.
Commercials and television shows still
are filmed today in the unsettled areas
surrounding this city, which annually
attracts more than 3 million tourists
from around the world.
It’s easy to see why they call
Prescott “Everybody’s Hometown.”
With a charming Norman Rockwellesque downtown, mile-high Prescott is
everything that a hometown should be.
Prescott enjoys four mild seasons,
an average daytime temperature of
about 70 degrees, and 300-plus days
of sunshine every year. Located just
90 miles north of Phoenix, this quaint
community is situated comfortably
against the Prescott National Forest.
Prescott was the Arizona
Territory’s original capital and is home
to four museums that bear witness to
this area’s Native American, military,
and Western pioneer history and
heritage. Downtown’s Whiskey Row
still houses saloons once patronized by
Old West legends like Wyatt Earp and
Doc Holliday.
Located in the heart of downtown,
Courthouse Plaza is the center of
activity in Prescott. During the summer
months, the elm-shrouded venue beats
to free live entertainment five nights a
week. The plaza also hosts numerous
community events, arts, crafts and car
shows. Courthouse Plaza is so popular
that it was named one of the “Top 10
Public Spaces in the United States”
by the prestigious American Planning
Association.
Throughout the year, Prescott
plays host to a plethora of events
that celebrate the history, culture and
art of the West, as well as music and
the great outdoors. A full calendar of
events can be accessed online at visitprescott.com.
The city, which is home to just
under 40,000 people, boasts 16 parks
and five lakes amidst breathtaking
scenery. More than 450 miles of
groomed trails for hiking, biking and
horseback riding are available to those
in the mood for an outdoor odyssey.
With all that Prescott offers,

COOL SUMMERS & MILD WINTERS
– PERFECTION IN SHOW LOW
Nestled in the tall pines of Rim
Country and just a three-hour drive
from a major metropolitan area, Show
Low is the White Mountains crossroads
of outdoor beauty, recreation and
relaxation. The town has been named
the “City of Trees” for good reason.
Located in the midst of the largest
stand of Ponderosa pines in the
United States, Show Low rests on the
Mogollon Rim in east central Arizona
and is known for its mild four seasons.
The city was established in 1870,
with incorporation following in 1953.
Legend has it that Show Low got its
name following a lengthy poker game
between C.E. Cooley and Marion Clark.
The two men decided there wasn’t
enough space for the two of them in
their settlement. They agreed to let a
game of cards decide their fate, with
the loser to move out. The tale is, Clark
said, “If you can show low, you win.”
Cooley turned up the deuce of clubs
and replied, “Show low it is.” The town’s
main street was named “Deuce of
Clubs” in honor of this legendary card
game.
Residents and visitors continue
to appreciate the Western history
and heritage of Show Low, as well
as its quiet beauty. Wildflowers, elk
and alpine forests provide a stunning
backdrop to a town where festivals and
and outdoor activities can be found
right outside one’s door.
Winter or summer, there are
plenty of attractions in Show Low,
such as hiking, biking, fishing, boating,

Pinetop-Lakeside offers something
for everyone – public golf courses,
horseback riding, wildlife and bird
viewing, outdoor experiences, cultural
activities, shopping and antiquing, as
well as a variety of accommodations
and dining options.
Located amidst the world’s
largest stand of Ponderosa pine trees,
this quaint mountain community is
proximal to eight national parks and
monuments (Petrified Forest, Painted
Desert, Grand Canyon, Meteor Crater,
Canyon de Chelly, Walnut Canyon,
Monument Valley and Four Corners),
and four Native American tribal nations.
The surrounding Apache-Sitgreaves
National Forest provides more than 2
million acres of wilderness, recreation
and camping opportunities.
Pinetop-Lakeside sits at an
elevation of 7,200 feet, with nearby
areas that climb to 11,000 feet. There
are four distinct seasons, as well as
ski slopes, mountain landscapes and
forest wildlife aplenty. Imagine being
able to ski and golf in the same day – in
Arizona! Unique wildlife – including
the Abert squirrel, Wapiti elk, bald
eagles, mule deer and osprey – make
their home here, and frequently can be
spotted throughout town.
There are 200-plus miles of
volunteer-maintained trails for hiking,
biking and equestrian fun, paralleled
by 60 miles of separate trails for off-
Pinetop
road vehicles. Woodland Lake Park is
a 583-acre complex encompassing Big
Springs Environmental Study Area,
an outdoor classroom with signage to
explain wildlife and flora; and White
Mountain Nature Center, which offers
free educational programs throughout
the summer, all interconnected to the
White Mountain Trails System.
Numerous sports fields make
perfect playgrounds for cool summer
sports events and high altitude training.
Festival season kicks off with a Pow
Wow the first weekend in June. Art
and cultural events run throughout the
summer, culminating with a Wildlife
Festival in early October.
Located 30 minutes from town,
Sunrise Ski Park Resort is Arizona’s
largest ski area. In the summer, a
chairlift provides scenic bird’s-eye
views of descending trails and distant
panoramas. The resort also offers
summer bike rentals for those anxious
to barrel down the trails.
There are scores of high mountain
lakes – four within town limits – for
summer fishing, winter ice fishing,
camping, hiking, boating and
recreation. The White Mountain Apache
Tribe also invites visitors to explore its
historic museum and ancient Kinishbah
ruins. Casa Malapais archaeological
site is nearby as well, offering more
opportunities to explore and enjoy this
mountain community. 928-367-4290,

THE CHARM OF TUCSON
Situated in the lush Sonoran
Desert of the southwestern
United States, Tucson is the jewel
in Southern Arizona’s crown.
Surrounded by five distinct mountain
ranges and bathed in 350-plus days
of sunshine annually, it is the ideal
place to live, work and play. Many
residents start out as visitors, and are
so taken by the city’s charm, natural
beauty and laid-back atmosphere
that they decide to stay.
Located at 2,389 feet above
sea level, metropolitan Tucson
covers nearly 500 square miles. The
landscape is varied and includes
flowering desert, rolling hills, winding
dry riverbeds, rugged canyons and
pine-topped peaks, all beneath a
clear blue sky. Tucson’s mild weather
makes it possible to enjoy endless
outdoor activities, like hiking,
mountain biking, horseback riding
The Residences at The
Ritz-Carlton, Dove Mountain
and rock climbing year-round. Cool
off in the summer with a short drive
up to Mount Lemmon, the tallest
peak in Southern Arizona, at 9,157
feet elevation.
As a continuously inhabited
settlement for the last 12,000 years,
Tucson’s history and culture run
deep. Spanish, Mexican, Native and
Old West influences are evident in
the architecture, lifestyle, traditions
and cuisine. Once hailed as a
“mini Mecca for the arts” by The
Wall Street Journal, Tucson’s art
community rivals that of any big
city, featuring its own ballet and
opera company, professional theater,
symphony, more than 200 art groups
and a variety of galleries scattered
throughout the city’s 11 districts.
While the majority of the region’s
population of 1 million resides within
Tucson proper, others choose to
live in surrounding suburbs and
communities.
The town of Oro
Valley, just three
miles north of
Tucson, is lauded
by Bloomberg
Businessweek as one
of the best places in
the country to raise
kids. Dove Mountain,
in the suburb of
Marana, is a golf
resort community
that spans 6,200
acres in the Tortolita
Mountains northwest
of Tucson. And Starr Pass, at the
base of the Tucson Mountains, is
engulfed in nature as it borders
Tucson Mountain Park in Saguaro
National Monument West.
Top employers in the region
include Raytheon Missile Systems,
Davis-Monthan Air Force Base and
the University of Arizona. Optics,
biomedical research, biotechnology
and tourism are among Tucson’s
major industries. The unparalleled
quality of life, variety of recreational
options, low cost of living and
welcoming community make Tucson
the perfect place to call home.

is marked by kilometers, a subtle
reminder that you are leaving the
familiar. Spaces are big, as the folded
hills roll away to towering peaks in the
distance. As those peaks – the Santa
Ritas – dominate the landscape, you
have arrived. A charming village of

1,900 people, Tubac blends the old
and the new effortlessly, as worn
adobes sidle up against modern
galleries in a melange of color and
style.
Only a few blocks square, with
no need for traffic lights, the village
invites a stroll down shaded streets
and colorful alleyways filled with
high-end galleries, eclectic shops
and inviting restaurants. It’s the
perfect place to relish the simple
beauty of a redtail hawk soaring
on the thermals, or revel in an arts
festival rivaling any in the world.
Just north of the village is
Tubac Golf Resort & Spa, a historic
Mexican hacienda transformed
into a sophisticated resort-living
experience in a naturally beautiful
setting.
Neighborhoods to the north
and south of the village blend
seamlessly into the fabric of the
community. A fabulous gourmet
grocery anchors a retail plaza,
which also offers a salon, fitness
center and restaurants. Residences
range from cozy town homes, to
larger patio homes, to spacious
haciendas, all intertwined with
walking paths, grassy parks and
sparkling fountains.
Late spring and early summer
push Tubac temperatures into the
hot zone briefly in the afternoon,
followed by balmy evenings so
conducive to alfresco entertaining.
Later summer brings the monsoons,
heralded by thunder, lightning and
brief downpours that soak the
land and plummet temperatures.
Autumn is ideal, with warm days
and cool nights. Winter is high
season, when everyone heads
out to hike, bike, bird and explore.
You can do whatever you want
whenever you want, all year-round.
“Rich culture, great food, low
stress,” notes the writers of AARP
Magazine. “Who wouldn’t want to
call this affordable area home.”

TALKING ROCK
HIGH-COUNTRY HAVEN
Here in this setting steeped in legends and traditions of the past,
Talking Rock blends the old with the
new – specifically, a concept called
the New American Dream. Driven by
changes related to technology, the
environment and the economy, the
New American Dream is exemplified
by the community’s commitment to
offering smaller and smarter homes
– an integration of energy-efficient
features and high-quality amenities all
designed to enhance an active, enjoyable lifestyle with family and friends;
complement the natural surroundings; and promote homeowner value.
In bringing the New American Dream
to reality, Talking Rock has introduced Cooper Ranch Homes by
Geoffrey H. Edmunds. Offering four
floor plans ranging from 2,378 to
2,629 square feet, this new collection
of two- and three-bedroom/twoand-a-half-bath homes – situated on
homesites that average more than
half an acre – starts from $485,000.
Talking Rock also has relaunched its
popular Ranch Cottages with new
models and floor plans ranging from
1,960 to 2,555 square feet, including front and back covered porches,
priced from $399,900. In addition,
the community offers custom homes
and homesites, with plans for ad-

ditional phases in developing its
New American Dream.
Created as a high-country haven
offering its residents a casual
Western lifestyle and the amenities of a country club, Talking Rock’s community features
include an 18-hole championship
golf course, and the Ranch Compound, which serves as a center
of activity and social clubhouse. A
variety of other amenities – from
a fitness barn and Coops coffee
shop, to a swimming pool and
sports courts – add to the recreational lifestyle, along with hiking
and biking trails, a community
garden, dog park and a variety of
activities. At Talking Rock, it’s all
part of the New American Dream
in the heart of the Old West.
