AGP welcomes New Chairman

Vance, took over as
chairman of the AlabamaGermany Partnership (AGP) at the
annual membership meeting. Hofmann
began his career with Mercedes-Benz as a
Management Trainee in 1997 in Stuttgart,
Germany where he held numerous posi-
tions within the purchasing group of Mercedes-Benz passenger cars. He moved to
Alabama with MBUSI in 2004 as an assistant
manager in finance and was responsible for
supplier bankruptcy management, material
budget planning and tooling cash-out management. He has served in his current position for 6 months and oversees the supplier
quality group for the M-, R-, and GL-class
built at the Mercedes-Benz plant in Vance.
Chairman Hofmann has served on the AGP
board since 2005. He is married to Christine
and they have two daughters, Olivia and
Emily.

Opening Ceremony
Berlin Airlift Exhibit
On Friday, February 27,
2009 the 60th Anniversary of the Berlin Airlift
Exhibit opening ceremony will take place at
the Southern Museum
of Flight. Berlin Airlift
Veterans living in Alabama will be honored.
The German Consul General from the Atlanta office, Col. Wolfgang Samuel, USAF
(Ret), author of German Boy, and other
special guests and dignitaries will be present. The overall aim of the project is to
raise awareness of the Berlin Airlift, one of
the greatest humanitarian efforts of all
time. The Airlift made friends out of former
enemies when the Americans and their allies, Great Britain and France, saved more
than two million men and women in the city
AGP HR Summit
Alabama Germany Partnership successfully
held its 1st Human Resource Summit on
February 13, 2009 in the World Business
Center in Birmingham, AL. The summit was
moderated by AGP Vice President of Education Anna Gramberg (Dean of the College of
Liberal Arts, Auburn University). Presenters
included Devin Dolive (Burr and Forman,
LLP) Dagmar Rick, Esq., (Law Office), Anne

ZF Lemforder Corporation
The plant opened in 1997 with 115,000
square feet of manufacturing space on 46
acres. A 39,000 square foot expansion in
2003 provided the back drop for the second generation of the Mercedes-Benz MClass, R-Class and GL Class. Currently
there are 300 employees at the facility.
ZF Lemforder Corporation in Tuscaloosa, Alabama.
ZF Lemforder Corp is the car chasis division
of ZF – one of the world’s largest suppliers
of driveline chasis technology. The company employs approximately 58,000 people
at 120 locations in 25 countries. Their sales
totaled $16.4 billion in 2007. Within ZF
Lemforder North America, there are five
components manufacturing plants and
three axle system assembly plants.
The ZF Tuscaloosa site produces complete
front and rear axle assemblies in broadcast
sequence for MBUSI. The plant has approximately four hours lead time after receipt of
order from MBUSI to produce and ship the
axle assemblies.
The Shingo prize, established in 1988 to
promote awarness of Lean Manufacturing
concepts was awarded to ZF in 2007. The
award is named for Japanese industrial
engineer Shiego Shingo, one of the world’s
leading experts in improving manufacturing processes.

Year for 2007-2008 by the Rotary Club of
Chilton County.

St. Nicholas Party
AGP’s St. Nick Family Party at the FDSK German Club, Birmingham was attended by
many members and children who were eager to meet St. Nick. The day was filled with
fun activities for children and a reception
that included German treats such as Stollen
and Gluehwein.

Award and Education-Culture Award to be
presented at the AGP Annual Dinner.
The 2008 Rainer Bauer Award was awarded
to Governor Bob Riley, the Education Award
to German Teacher Edith Phillips of Huntsville and the Culture Award to Pete Cox,
