BADGER HIGH SCHOOL
April, 2015
A Message from the Principal . . . . .
Parents,
fourth quarter a good one.
As we move into the fourth
quarter and the end of the
school year please keep
close track of your student’s academic progress.
Historically, this is the time
of the year we see grades
tend to slide. While this
has a tendency to be especially true of our seniors,
some of our other students
seem to relax as the weather warms up. Please check
Infinite Campus on a regular basis and contact teachers and guidance counselors when additional help is
needed. After school labs
are available in every subject area for additional
help. Together, let’s make
Also, a reminder that there
are numerous summer
school opportunities available for our students, including incoming 9th graders,
and it is not too late to sign
up. Most of the classes run
from June 8th until June
26th from 8:30 until 12:45.
Call the Badger guidance
department for more information.

APRIL NEWSLETTER
News from the Counseling Center
Parents of seniors, you are in the final
stretch! With third quarter just ending it is
important to stay in touch with teachers
to make sure students remain eligible for
graduation and have met all requirements, i.e. senior projects.
All students interested in taking the June
13th ACT test offered at Badger H.S.
need to complete the online registration
at www.actstudent.org. In order to avoid
late registration fees you must complete
the ACT registration by May 8th.
Sophomores, due to changes in assessments and when the results will be available, we will not be having sophomore
conferences this year. Instead, we will
have Junior conferences in the fall. If any
sophomore family would like to meet to
discuss classes and career planning,
please schedule an appointment in April.
All students keep in mind that May 8th is
the final deadline for any and all 20142015 schedule changes.
Students looking for job opportunities
can check the posting outside of the
Counseling Center or see Mrs. Ott for
more information.
Credit Card Payments for School Lunch
The ability to use a credit card
to make payments for school
lunch is returning. SchoolPay,
a company which specializes
in school credit card payments,
will soon provide a link for parents who wish to pay for
school lunch using their credit
card. We will alert parents as
soon as this is ready so that
you may create an account
and begin making payments. A
service charge is applied to all
payments.
George Williams College Partners With Badger Sustainability Class
On February 24th, George Williams College and the new Badger High School
Sustainability class partnered an educational event at GWC in Williams Bay. The
college students were challenged to design soil lessons to educate the high
school students about advanced science
concepts in soil principles. Some of the
concepts and hands-on laboratory experiments included learning about soil structure, determining soil porosity based on
density, evaluating soil texture using a
hydrometer also by feel, and assessing
soil horizons by soil color. This was a
great day of learning on both sides as the
college students were able to study and
practice in various soil areas and the high
school students could also. Future plans
are made for further partnerships between the two sustainability programs as
both schools are hoping to continue to
grow their programs.

A SPECIAL NOTE FROM THE BADGER HS LIBRARY
National Library Week is April 12-18. This
year we are conducting a Public Library Card
drive in association with the Lake Geneva
Public Library. This is the perfect opportunity
for Badger Students to sign up and get
access to all the wonderful services that our
Public Library System has to offer. More
information will follow after Spring Break.
FFA Members Compete at District
Seven members of the Badger FFA chapter
competed in the District 30 FFA public
speaking contest held on February 11 at
East Troy High School.
Two freshmen tried their skills on memorizing the five paragraphs in the FFA Creed
contest and then answered questions
about the Creed. This is the first contest in
which freshmen can try their speaking ability and learn how to present themselves to
an audience.
Competing were Abigail Klein and Braden
Kundert. Braden Kundert won first place
and will advance to Sectional Speaking
Contest on March 11th.
In the Extemporaneous contest, two members tried their skill at preparing a speech in
just 30 minutes. They had to draw a topic
the day of the contest and then prepare a
speech about that topic in only 30 minutes.
They have access to the Internet, textbooks
and magazines to gather facts about their
topic. They must prepare a 4-6 minute
speech and then be able to answer questions about their topic. Competing were
Dakota Discepolo and Josh Kundert. Josh
will advance to the next level of competition. He placed first in the contest area.
FFA Members Compete at Speaking Contest
Congratulations to the Badger FFA Members, who competed at the Section 10
FFA Speaking Contest held at Lomira
High School on Wednesday March 11th,
2015. Joshua Kundert placed first place
in Extemporaneous Contest. Braden
Kundert placed first place as well in the
FFA Creed contest area. This was the
second round of competition and they
will now advance to State competition in
June. Megan Daley competed in Discussion contest, and Danielle Baker competed in Job Interview contest but will not
be advancing to the next level. The
speaking contest events prepare FFA
members in various areas to develop career readiness skills.
The final level of competition was the Discussion contest division where students
must research various agriculture issue topics, educate themselves on facts about each
topic and then discuss and debate the issues against other FFA members. Emily
Freeland-Useman and Megan Daley both
competed in this contest. Megan Daley won
first place overall and will advance to the
next level of competition.

ACT Aspire testing—Grades 9 & 10
The week of April 27 our Freshman class will be taking the ACT Aspire test. And Sophomores will take the test the
week of May 4. This is a statewide assessment to determine career and college readiness benchmarks for your
student. This is an online test measuring progress in the areas of math, science, English, writing, and reading. Please be sure your student is in attendance this week. Feedback from the test will be useful for your student and Badger to determine where interventions are needed and for future course selection.
Badger Extreme Sports Club
Badger has a new club starting up this spring called the Extreme Sports Club! Adam Rosencrans in the Counseling
Department is starting the club for students who have an interest and want to participate in skateboarding, BMX bike
riding, rollerblading or scooter riding. Students with and without experience are encouraged to join. We will have some
extra equipment available for those without equipment or pads who want to participate. The club will travel together to
various skateparks within an hour of Badger so they have an opportunity to try out different places while working on
their skills and building relationships with like-minded peers. The first outing to the Lake Geneva Skatepark is scheduled for April 9th after school. If you have a student who may be interested in joining, feel free to direct them to Adam
Rosencrans in the Counseling Department for more information to bring home. If you have any questions regarding
the club or have extra equipment, helmets or pads you would like to donate, please contact Adam Rosencrans at (262)

Prom Attendees and Parents:
It’s hard to believe it’s that time again, but prom planning is underway! This year’s Great Gasby/Roaring
20’s themed prom will be held at The Abbey Resort and Spa in Fontana. The event will be held on
Saturday, May 9th. Doors will open to guests at 5:00. Students MUST check in between 5:00 and
5:45. No exceptions will be made. Students will NOT be admitted if they have not checked in by 5:45.
The Grand March will begin promptly at 6:00. Parents and general public wishing to view the Grand
March are invited to assemble, weather permitting, on the terrace oustide the Wisconsin Ballroom. In the
event of inclement weather, the Grand March will be cancelled (an automated school-wide phone call will
be sent out) and a private coronation ceremony will take place during the dance. Following the Grand
March, students will be directed to the Harbor Ballroom for the formal dinner and dance, which begins
at 7:00 p.m. and ends at 11:00 p.m..
Prom tickets will be sold April 20th – April 24th, in the Commons during lunch and before and after
school in room 605. The cost of each ticket is $60.
Students and their guests must submit a signed permission slip in order to purchase a ticket(s). If a
student would like to bring a guest that does not attend Badger, they must fill out and turn in the
appropriate permission slip. Both versions of the permission slip will be shared with students via Google
Drive; however, they can also obtained from the main office. Student fees must also be up-to-date/paid
in full in order to purchase a ticket. If you have any questions regarding the status of a student account,
please contact the main office.
Students’ safety is our number one priority; administration and police personnel will be on site to provide
security and administer random breathalyzer tests to students upon their arrival at The Abbey Resort and
Spa. Please take a moment to speak with your students about the dangers of underage drinking and the
importance of appropriate behavior at this formal event. If you have any questions about prom, please
contact one of the junior class advisors listed below.
Thank you!
