Organic Waxes
Koster Keunen’s Organic Beeswax comes from the forests and high plains of Africa, where the region is wild and pure enough to produce 100% organic beeswax.
Our Organic Carnauba comes from the plains of North Eastern Brazil, where no organized agriculture exists, eliminating the possibility of pesticide contamination.
With 100% Organic Beeswax and Organic Carnauba Wax, our customers are guaranteed the purest and highest-quality cosmetic and food ingredients offered anywhere.
Organic Beeswax
Beeswax has been known since antiquity to have moisturizing, emulsifying, and antiseptic qualities. No wonder it’s one of the most popular ingredients in high-end cosmetics.
And now, with our 100% Organic and regular Organic Beeswax, you are guaranteed the purest and highest quality beeswax offered anywhere.
Because of the highly complex composition of beeswax and its soft pliable nature, beeswax remains an indispensable raw material for many finished products even
after centuries of commercial use.
Organic Beeswax is sourced from regions in Africa, free of modern agricultural techniques and chemical treatment with fertilizers and pesticides. Certification has been
issued by a USDA Foreign Accredited Certifying Agent. Quality is strictly controlled in our modern production facilities as well as in our well-equipped laboratory.

Beeswax
Beeswax, also known as White Wax, is secreted by the glands of the honeybee (Apis Mellifera) and is used as a building material for honeycombs. Because of the highly complex
composition of beeswax and its soft, pliable nature, beeswax remains an indispensable raw material for many finished products even after centuries of commercial use. The large
number of agricultural countries exporting beeswax ensures that beeswax is never in short supply. Quality is strictly controlled in our modern production facilities as well as in our
well-equipped laboratory. We guarantee consistent quality and availability by careful blending of selected waxes for each customer’s application.
Applications:
Creams, Lotions, Lipsticks, Cold Creams, Depilatories, Ointments, Salves, Pharmaceutical Excipients, Emulsions, Color Cosmetics, Hair Care; Furniture, Wood, and Leather Polishes;
Textile, Wood, and Paper Finishes; Lubricants, Candles, Moldings, and numerous industrial applications.
Advantages:
Beeswax has been used for thousands of years for its unique chemistry which has the ability to produce creamy textures in a variety of cosmetic applications. In emulsions the
free fatty acids can be used to make in-situ emulsifiers, improving emulsion stability and texture.
Regulatory Information:
INCI Name: Beeswax
CAS#: 8006-40-4 White Beeswax, 8012-89-3 Yellow Beeswax
Synthetic Beeswax
Many times pure beeswax can be substituted in formulations with our Synthetic Beeswax. This Synthetic Beeswax is a match of the physical and chemical properties of the natural
product. This is achieved by blending a mixture of fatty acid esters, fatty acids, and alcohols from a non-animal raw material source to very closely meet the chemical composition
of natural beeswax.
Applications:
Creams, Lotions, Cold Creams, Depilatories; Furniture, Wood, and Leather Polishes; Leather, Textile, Wood, and Paper Finishes; Candles, Moldings, Lithography,
and Industrial Emulsions.
Advantages:
Synthetic Beeswax has been designed to be a functional equivalent in some applications that natural beeswax has been employed. If natural beeswax is not required similar
properties can be incorporated into your formula while realizing cost savings.

Candelilla
Candelilla is a vegetable wax found in great quantities in Mexico’s North Central Plateau and Southeastern Texas. Candelilla is extracted from the shrub, Euphorbia Cerifera, by
boiling and skimming off the resultant layer of wax. The raw material comes to Koster Keunen in lump form and is then twice bleached and filtered to a light yellow color. Koster
Keunen has been supplying the industry with American Double Refined Candelilla for almost two centuries. We offer a variety of grades to fit your application. Contact our lab to
find out which one is right for your product. Candelilla is regulated under the CITES Treaty. All Candelilla imported by Koster Keunen is done so with a CITES Permit. These permits
are on file and a re-export certificate can be issued upon request.
Applications:
Sunscreens, Lipsticks, Lip Gloss, Candies and Gums, Emulsions, Leather Dressings, Polishes, Varnishes, Sealing Waxes, Insulating Compositions, Rubber Waterproofing,
Soft Wax Stiffeners, Lubricants, and Adhesives.
Advantages:
Candelilla produces excellent gloss and structure, and is ideal for finished products where firm consistency and high melt point are important. Candelilla also has water
repellent and film forming properties.
Regulatory:
INCI Name: Euphorbia Cerifera (Candelilla) Wax
CAS#: 8006-44-8
Acid-Free Candelilla
Acid-Free Candelilla, or Cetearyl Candelillate, is a derivative of Candelilla Wax. The free acids of Candelilla are reduced using vegetable based cetearyl alcohol to create a more
amorphous wax with reduced crystallinity through a reaction to a low acid value. This reduction in acid value, through the formation of esters, lowers the potential for interaction
with other cosmetic raw materials such as the free ions found in many cosmetic pigments.
Applications:
Skin Care Products, Lipsticks, Lip Balms.
Advantages:
Acid-Free Candelilla is highly compatible, inhibits crystallization, and acts as a gellant. Acid-Free Candelilla also has water repellent, moisturizing, and film forming properties.
Regulatory:
INCI NAME: Cetearyl Candelillate
CAS#: 138724-54-6
Synthetic Candelilla
Synthetic Candelilla is a blend of waxes which has been designed to match the properties and characteristics of the natural product, but at a lower price. Our Synthetic Candelilla
is a light colored, hard, brittle wax that is a little softer than Carnauba. The synthetic wax is more consistent than the natural product and has no resins.
Applications:
Lipsticks, Lip Gloss, Lip Balms, Mascaras, and Emulsions of various types.
Advantages:
Synthetic Candelilla produces excellent structure and gloss, and is ideal for finished products where firm consistency and high melt point are important. Synthetic Candelilla
can also be emulsified when making in-situ soaps of the free fatty acids.

Sunflower Wax
Sunflower Wax is a hard, crystalline, high melting-point vegetable wax obtained through the winterization of sunflower oil. It is Ecocert Certified. Sunflower Wax consists of long
chain saturated C-42 to C-60 esters derived from fatty alcohols and fatty acids. In many formulations Sunflower Wax can be used as an alternative for Rice Bran Wax, Carnauba
Wax, and Candelilla Wax. Sunflower Wax functions to regulate consistency in sticks and emulsions and has very strong oil gelling properties when used in concentrations as low
as 4%. Our special Sunflower Wax is light in color and has very low odor.
Applications:
Lipsticks, Mascaras, Decorative Cosmetics, Lip Balms, and Emulsions.
Advantages:
Sunflower Wax improves the hardness, texture, strength, and mold release of sticks. It also acts as a consistency modifier in sticks and emulsions. Sunflower Wax can be used
as a thickener and to improve oil binding, emolliency, film formation, and lubricity.
Regulatory:
INCI Name: Helianthus Annuus (Sunflower) Seed Oil
CAS#: 8001-21-6
Rice Bran Wax
Rice Bran Wax primarily consists of high molecular weight monoesters ranging from C-46 to C-66. Rice Bran Wax has been historically used in a wide variety of cosmetics and
foods, replacing Carnauba Wax in some applications. The color of Koster Keunen’s domestically refined Rice Bran Wax is naturally rendered through batch chromatography
technology and is not solvent extracted. This method of refinement retains low concentrations of policosanols, phospholipids, phytosterols, and squalene. The resulting Rice
Bran Wax is of superior quality and competitively priced when compared to imported material.
Applications:
Lipsticks, Lip Balms, Make-ups, Mascaras, Sun Care, Fruit and Vegetable Coatings, Tablet and Candy Coating.

Orange Peel Wax
Koster Keunen has produced the first commercially available fruit wax. Orange Wax is an all natural semi-solid wax derived from the rind of the orange through physical processing
(no chemical reactions or solvent extraction). The wax in the peel of the fruit protects the fruit against the environment while at the same time allowing the orange to breathe and

Cera Bellina
Cera Bellina is a hydrophilic derivative of natural beeswax in which the free fatty acids have been converted to polyglycerol esters. Elimination of the free fatty acid functionalities
in beeswax improves the oil gelling and oil retention capability of mono, di, and triglycerides; straight chain and branched chain esters; and paraffinic hydrocarbons. Stability has
also been observed in combination with Glycerides, Ozokerites, Carnauba, and Candelilla. Besides the consistency regulating properties of beeswax, Cera Bellina has the
remarkable capability of inhibiting crystallization in the oil phase. Cera Bellina also greatly improves stability in dispersions utilizing non-soluble components, such as organic
and inorganic pigments, as well as mineral and polymer extenders. With Cera Bellina, all natural, plant, and vegetable oils can now be gelled with relatively low wax concentrations.
Applications:
Cosmetic Emulsions, Oil Gel Products, and Decorative Cosmetics.
Advantages:
The solubility and stability of Cera Bellina is similar to that of beeswax. Products formulated with Cera Bellina produce remarkably stable, smooth gels. In decorative cosmetics,
Cera Bellina helps to break up pigment agglomerates by forming a gel network, thereby maintaining an even distribution of ingredients. Cera Bellina also suppresses the fatty acid
fatty alcohol migration and oil syneresis (sweating) in finished stick formulas.

PEG-8 Beeswax
Polyethylene Glycol Beeswax, or PEG-8 Beeswax, is an esterification of the free fatty acids of beeswax. The result is a light colored wax, with a melt point typical of beeswax,
designed for use in a variety of emulsions.
Applications:
Creams, Lotions, Cold Creams, Depilatories, Salves, Ointments, and Emulsions.
Advantages:
PEG-8 Beeswax creates lotions that are bright and fluid with enhanced emollience and spreadability. Levels of 5% PEG-8 Beeswax in water will produce stable emulsions and
levels up to 10% will create creams and lotions with rich texture and a glossy appearance.
Regulatory:

Behenyl Beeswax
Behenyl Beeswax is made by modifying beeswax to be less crystalline. This is an advantage in cosmetic applications because crystallinity negatively impacts the stability of most
cosmetic products. Behenyl Beeswax enhances the performance of many formulations making it a welcome alternative to typical beeswax and other wax products.
Applications:
Creams, Lotions, Make-ups, Lipsticks, Lip Balms, Mascaras, Hair Care, and Sunscreen Products.
Advantages:
By using Behenyl Beeswax, stable, strong, and smooth gels are produced at low wax concentrations. A wide range of oils can be gelled and stabilized with Behenyl Beeswax,
including many silicone and polar oils. Behenyl Beeswax enhances the oil gelling capability and oil retaining properties in formulas that use difficult gelling oils.

Emulsifying Carnauba Waxes
These versions of Emulsifying Carnauba and Emulsifying Synthetic Carnauba have been designed to increase the compatibility of high molecular weight esters that are typically
partially incompatible with other common raw materials. In emulsion systems, high molecular weight monoesters (> C-60), like those of carnauba, are popular for their film
forming and barrier properties. In the past, these monoesters have been difficult to stabilize, this is no longer the case with our Emulsifying Carnauba Waxes. These products
allow the formulator to add functionality, improve film thickness, and increase water resistance.
PEG-12 Carnauba is a polyethylene derivative of natural Type 1 Carnauba.
Carnauba EC-80 is a unique natural wax based blend designed for simplification in formulating.
Self Emulsifying Synthetic Carnauba is a unique synthetic wax based blend that offers improved color stability at high temperatures.
Applications:
Creams, Lotions, Hair Care, Sunscreens, Antiperspirants, Lipsticks, Lip Balms, Make-ups, and Mascaras.
