Chamber of Commerce
The Greater Grandville Chamber of
Commerce is a well-respected cornerstone of a
vibrant business community and of the area in
general. More than 300 strong and growing, its
members hail from Grandville, Jenison,
Hudsonville, Wyoming and Grand Rapids, giving
the Chamber a unique perspective on what
makes the area a wonderful place to live, a fun
place to visit and a superb place in which to do
business.
An involved membership provides the
Chamber with the means of being an important
catalyst for positive growth in the area.
Capitalizing on the forward momentum of the
past decade and growing membership, the
Board of Directors has developed a new
comprehensive Strategic Plan. The Board has
also developed a revised Mission Statement, its
first Vision Statement and one- and five-year
plans—exciting tools to help the Chamber
continue its service to its membership and to
the surrounding community.

2007 BUSINESS OF THE YEAR - BORGMAN FORD MAZDA
Borgman Ford Mazda has been selected as 2007 Business of the Year.
The Borgman family has provided quality products and services to the
Grandville community since 1960. The team at Borgman Ford Mazda has
contributed to the Susan G. Komen Race for the Cure Foundation, with
fundraising events including ice cream socials, pink ribbon and vehicle
magnet sales, luncheons, personal donations and sponsorships of the
Race for the Cure at Rivertown Mall in Grandville. They have also
contributed to the Grandville Senior Neighbors, local schools and
Grandville’s Annual 4th of July Celebration.
2007 DISTINGUISHED PERSON OF THE YEAR - CHERI ANTOZAK
Cheri Antozak has been selected as 2007 Distinguished Person of the
Year. Cheri has been an integral part of the Grandville Business
Community for years, giving her time and talent to numerous
organizations and causes. She has demonstrated her leadership and
dedication to the Grandville community and its economic development as
president and vice president of the Grandville Merchants Association, and
by her participation on the Grandville Planning Commission, the
Grandville Downtown Development Authority and as a member of the
Grandville Rotary and Chamber of Commerce. Cheri and her husband,
Paul, are also businessowners in Grandville, Interiors by Cheri and
Prairieside Suites Luxury Bed & Breakfast.

Life in Grandville
Imagine living in a contemporary suburb which is an easy commute to
the “big city,” but has its own unique identity, its own sense of small-town
community and its own prosperous business district. You’ve imagined
Grandville, Michigan.
deReuze Gourmet Market
Though growing, Grandville still offers residents a close-knit atmosphere
that supports family values and makes it possible for people to get to know
their neighbors. Visitors to Grandville are often amazed by the number of
church spires that grace the streets and the many serene parks located in
the city. These physical attributes set the tone for life in Grandville, and
inspire more than 17,000 to call this city, “home.”

LOCATION
Grandville is located in Kent County, nestled along
the shores of the Grand River, just south of Grand
Rapids. Nearby highways such as M-6, U.S. 131, I-96
and I-196 make commuting a breeze and give residents
easy access to all the cultural and shopping amenities
the Grand Rapids area offers. Grandville is also near
enough to the sandy beaches of Lake Michigan to make
a summer beach outing a simple affair, yet far enough
away to be protected from the blustery lake winds.

DESTINATION DOWNTOWN
Embarking on an ambitious master plan to fortify
and give dimension to a central business district, the
Grandville Downtown Development Authority is creating
a pedestrian friendly streetscape with new landscaping
and sidewalk construction. Also underway are plans for
attractive, new mixed-use residential, retail and
commercial buildings which will make downtown
Grandville an even more appealing destination.
KENT DISTRICT LIBRARY: GRANDVILLE BRANCH
Housing the latest best-selling books to the newest
movies and music, the Kent District Library offers all
the modern conveniences of a multi-media archive.
Features include Express Checkout, free Internet
access, laptop drops and WiFi service, on-line
databases, 24-hour reference service and email
notification. Visitors may also participate in children’s
story hours, book discussion groups, reading clubs and
Summer Family Nights. An active Friends of the
Grandville Library stocks a used bookstore located in
the library. When not being used for concerts or
lectures, an outdoor amphitheater with patio seating
provides a peaceful place to relax and read.
PARKS
Grandville takes particular pride in the public
parks and trail system that connect many of its
neighborhoods. A brand new park, Lee Street Park,
will soon be open while final plans are being made for
the future Peck Street Park. Calvin Crest Park has new
tennis courts and a trail has been extended from Wilson
to Ivanrest streets. Other parks and major trails include
Buck Creek Trail, Heritage Park, Mill Race Park and
Wedgwood Park.

4TH OF JULY IN GRANDVILLE
Celebrating with a bang!
For almost 40 years, Grandville volunteers have
rolled up their shirt sleeves and rolled out the
welcome mat to one of the best 4th of July
parties in the state. Capped by a stirring 30
minute fireworks display, Grandville’s
legendary celebration provides a great
time for the thousands of visitors who
attend, while also helping to fund the
maintenance and development of
Grandville’s beautiful city parks.
There are so many events during
the celebration, they can’t all fit on
the fourth. The holiday begins with
the Buck Creek YMCA run—a
combo run/walk plus a special
Kids Run. Then there is the
well-attended Sunday evening
Community Worship Service
held on the middle school
lawn. It features appearances
by local religious leaders and
political leaders. Also popular
is a series of baseball and
softball games, where fans
can cheer on their team while
munching buttered popcorn or
an all-American hotdog.
When July 4th finally arrives,
Grandville is ready for a good time. Early
risers start their day at the Pancake Breakfast on
the grounds of the middle school. From there it’s
only a short walk to Wedgwood Park, where a Flag
Raising Ceremony ushers in the rest of the day’s
activities. The Arts and Crafts Show sports 100
crafters plus many food vendors. The Grand 4th of July
Parade runs a solid two hours and is viewed by people
often eight deep on the curbside.
Horseshoe and 3-on-3 basketball tournaments, face painting
and the popular children’s Penny Carnival, plus an amazing
skydiving presentation featuring the landing of a diver holding a
streaming American flag, are just a few more of the events that
draw people together. But the biggest and brightest affair has to be
the evening’s patriotic concerts and the glowing pyrotechnics that
light up the Grandville sky at sundown. More than 40,000 people
stream into town to be a part of the excitement.

EDUCATION
With more than 6,000 students, Grandville Public
Schools rank among the best in the state and have
received national recognition for excellence. The schoolto-career program has been a recipient of the Governor’s
Excellence in Practice award. High school co-curricular
activities draw a 70 percent student participation rate
and include 20 varsity sports, a large intramural program
and numerous clubs and organizations.
Rounding out the educational spectrum in Grandville
are its private schools: Grandville Christian School and
Calvin Christian School. Both are important members of
the community and have been recognized for academic
and athletic excellence.

FARMER’S MARKETS
Located in the parking lot north of the library,
Grandville’s long-time Farmer’s Market offers guests a
luscious selection of flats of spring flowers and
perennials, hanging baskets, breads, fruits, vegetables,

PRESERVING A WORTHY HERITAGE
Volunteers maintain community’s artifacts, museums
Grandville’s thriving contemporary appearance belies a history
stretching back to 1835, when Charles Oaks came to the area
and founded the Grandville Company. Years later, in 1973, the
Grandville Historical Commission paid tribute to this history with
the publication of a book titled, “Bend in the River.” Soon after,
in 1976, the commission founded the Grandville Museum, a
place where historical materials used for the book, along with
other important artifacts and archives could be showcased for the
public’s enjoyment and education.
The commission also operates the one room No. 10 school
house in Heritage Park. Built in 1887, the school museum
provides numerous area students with a feel for what life was like
in Grandville more than a century ago as the students spend a
regular school day there.

after the Grand River.

the population is of Dutch
or German descent.
• Grandville was once a
busy river port which saw
river traffic change from
early pole boats to the
mighty steamers of the
late 19th Century.
• The Village of Grandville

Star) was the first newspaper, founded in 1907.

beginning of the Grandville
Industrial Association, the
forerunner of today’s
Greater Grandville
Chamber of Commerce.
