A shipment of 780 tons of seamless pipe, ranging from oneilalf to four inches in diameter, was unloaded from the M. V. DICORONIAat City Dock 23 recently for Toole and Company, manufacturers representatives. The NKK pipe was manufactured in Japan and was plastic coated for protection during shipment. He is currently serving Iris second term as president of the Houston Maritime Association, and is a director of the Houston Chamber of Commerce, the Houston Cotton Exchange, and the Houston World Trade Association. PORT OF HOUSTONMAGAZINE Petty Terminal Corporation has purchased the trade name of Ship Channel Compress Warehouse from the Sprunt Corporation and is now operating the facilities at the foot of 82nd Street as Petco Docks. Approximately $100,000 has been spent on repairs to the two berths and other facilities. Tile warehouse and compress area contains 350,000 square feet. In addition, tile company has leased 400,000 square feet from the Coffield Warehouse Company which will be used for storing general cargo and cotton. Fast Freight, Reefer, Deep Tank and Passenger Service The Cunard Line launched its newest cargo liner, the M. V. MEDIA, first of four freighters to be constructed in a $12.5 million shipbuilding program. The new ships will be used in the U.S. Liverpool service. They will have cubic capacity of 420,000 feet, including 23,000 cubic feet of refrigerated space. All of the ships will be equipped with special features for fast cargo handling. S. MAYO LYKES, which was christened in mid-August by Mrs. Hazel Casey, wife of Congressman Bob Casey of Houston. The photo below shows the big ship on the ways at Bethlehem Steel Company’s Sparrows Point Shipyard. Tbis is the second MAYO LYKES, both of which were named in memory of Dick Mayo Lykes, a U. S. Navy ensign killed in action in World War I|. He was the son of one of the seven Lykes brothers who founded the steamship cmnpany. The ship, which cost $10 million is 495 feet long, with a 69-foot beam.
