Kids clamber all over Culzean in miniature
The National Trust for Scotland have created
a Culzean Castle mini-me for kids to climb all
over. Adventure Cove – Culzean’s adventure play
park – recreates some of the fairytale castle and
country park’s most-loved features and adds a
few twists too.
Located at the Swan Pond, Adventure Cove mimics many
of Culzean’s features – it’s got a viaduct, smuggler’s caves
and it even has an ‘Eisentower’, in honour of the castle’s
US connection.
There are swings, see-saws, slides galore, boats, ramparts
and a flying fox – plenty to keep young adventurers busy
for hours.
Created by the Curious Adventure Play Company, the park
is pulling in the crowds and has been getting rave reviews
so far.
Culzean Castle and Country Park General Manager
Caroline Glenn said:
“Adventure Cove is an awesome addition to the Culzean
experience. It’s inspired by the castle and its setting and
looks fantastic – almost as good as the Robert Adams’
original – but even better for kids as they can climb all
over it!
“Our young visitors can let their imaginations go wild
and embark on adventures inspired by smugglers and
war generals, and they’ll even be learning more about
Culzean’s history as they play.
“Culzean has always been one of Scotland’s most popular
places for family visits, and we’re sure that Adventure Cove
will bring families back again and again.”
Accompanying adults can enjoy a coffee from the kiosk,
12
and of course, no family day out is complete without icecreams all round.
The £250,000 redevelopment of the Swan Pond area is
part of a programme of improvements planned by the
conservation charity, the National Trust for Scotland
which cares for the Ayrshire estate. More plans are in the
pipeline, but they are intended to cement Culzean’s status
as one of Scotland’s top heritage sites which gets around
220,000 visitors annually.
Of course, Adventure Cove is just one addition to a
stunning historic estate packed with family-friendly
features. Exploring the shoreline, feeding the deer and
following a woodland trail are all excellent options for
adventurers of all ages.
And check out the website, for the latest events for
younger visitors – our friendly and expert Culzean rangers
run events regularly throughout the summer. Log on to
www.nts.org.uk for the full, fun programme.
For those with a taste for the finer things in life, a guided
tour round Robert Adam’s beautiful 18th century castle is
not to be missed. Its unique interiors are the very definition
of Georgian elegance; the views from the Round Drawing
Room are amongst the best, from any living room
anywhere in the world. Packed with art and fine furniture
for the antique aficionado, it offers the chance to see how
the other half lived.
The gardens must get a mention too – stop by the tranquil
walled garden to take five, while Fountain Court is a good
spot for a picnic (if there isn’t an event on the go).
Surrounded by Culzean Country Park, a 242 hectare
estate encompassing lush woodland, landscaped gardens
and rugged coastline, this 18th-century Scottish castle
couldn’t be better placed for a family day out.
