WELCOME MESSAGE
I-ESA has become along this years a distinctive place to bring together
members of academia, industry and research to discuss the broad range
of Interoperability facets. The 2016 I-ESA edition theme is “Enterprise
Interoperability in the digitized and networked Factory of the Future“ and
includes around 30 papers as the result of community author’s
dedication. The pre-conference gives place to the broad range of topics
that workshops offer to share the scientific and technical tools
corresponding to the effort of the EI community.
At the conference we will hear Gérald Santucci (DG CONNECT)
highlighting European Commission’s initiatives and the key digital technologies which industry is
encouraged to adopt, and Prof. Dr.-Ing. Klaus-Dieter Thoben (BIBA/LogDynamics) will discuss
new approaches actually under development in ongoing research projects in the Product-Service
System concept. In the next day, we are pleased to host Ricardo Goncalves (UNINOVA) who
will speak on the integrated vision of the future of Enterprise Interoperability in the advent of
H2020 and last but not least Francisco Duarte (Bosch Car Multimedia Portugal) that will give us
the industry state-of-the-art and perspective on these important topics, explaining the trends and
what interoperability is requested to implement the functional requirements of the business
processes related with shop-floor activities.
We are truly honoured to have these individuals speak at I-ESA to give a broader perspective of
the challenges and success that Interoperability approach can provide to the industrial and
scientific arenas.
An event of this magnitude requires the hard work and dedication of many people, from authors,
topic organizers, volunteers organizers to the INTEROP VLab staff and many others too
numerous to mention individually here. We want to thank the organizational push and support of
the Steering Committee and the Local Organizing Committee with whom we have worked closely
in past months planning and organizing both technical and social programs. Altogether, they
have put forth an incalculable amount of effort to ensure that this conference has papers and
presentations of innovativeness, substance and quality. Finally, we want to recognise the
authors, plenary and keynote speakers whose contribution and insights we have the pleasure of
reading and listening to and whose time here is spent generously discussing and exchanging
ideas with us.
While attending the I-ESA conference, please take time to thank our institutional partners,
sponsors and co-sponsors and to enjoy the culture and scenery of the city of Guimarães, in
particular his Historic City Centre UNESCO World Heritage. The city of Guimarães is historically
associated with the foundation and identity of the Portuguese nationality, houses the Escola de
Engenharia da Universidade do Minho and is also one of the key poles of Minho industrial
region, prosper in national and foreign industry, public and private interface organizations.

I-ESA CONFERENCE
I-ESA brings together the world's leading researchers and practitioners in the area of
enterprise interoperability: it is a unique forum for the exchange of visions, ideas, research
results and industrial experiences, dealing with a wealth of interoperability research subjects
for business, enterprise applications and software.
The I-ESA 2016 Conference is being organized by the Escola de Engenharia da
Universidade do Minho on behalf of INTEROP Portuguese Pole (PtRP) and INTEROPVLab (International Virtual Laboratory for Enterprise Interoperability). This edition of I-ESA
has the subtitle “Enterprise Interoperability in the digitized and networked Factory of the
Future“.
Establishing efficient and relevant collaborations requires management of interoperability in
a dynamic, evolving production network: a relevant and efficient collaboration of
organizations requires continual adaptation to remain in line with potentially changing
objectives, potentially evolving resources, unexpected events, etc. This specific aspect of
interoperability will be the keystone of I-ESA 2016.
Furthermore, the topics of I-ESA 2016 are aligned with the vision presented in the framework
program Horizon 2020 regarding interoperability: Enterprise Interoperability and Innovation,
Interoperability strategies for Digital and Sensing Enterprise, System Interoperability in
Internet of everything and Collaborative Manufacturing and Logistics.
I-ESA 2016 welcomes papers addressing the topics listed below, but this list is not exclusive:
all papers relevant to enterprise interoperability and related topics were considered in the
review process.

Full and original scientific papers about Interoperability for Enterprise Systems and
Applications are published in I-ESA 2016 Conference. The Conference proceedings will be
published by Springer (http://www.springer.com/gp/book/9783319309569) in the book series
Enterprise Interoperability.

About Emergency Information’s regarding your hotel, please ask in the reception of your

TRANSPORTATION
Train: Visit the www.cp.pt/passageiros/en/ where you can consult the train schedules and
available lines to reach the University of Minho. The travel takes at least 1 hour and 30
minutes. The airport is connected with the Porto railway central station - Campanhã - by
metro line E - violet line (www.metrodoporto.pt/en/). The travel takes 25 minutes, with trains
departing every 20 minutes. Tickets can be purchased at the automatic ticket machines
located in the Metro station or in the Airport information desk. Tickets must be validated
before travel by scanning them in front of the yellow machines located in stations.
Airport Shuttle: As an alternative to the train travel, you have a shuttle (called Get Bus)
from Porto Airport directly to Guimarães. Points of departure and arrival are clearly marked.
No stops or drop and collect passengers are allowed in addition to the stipulated points. To
buy the ticket online (two weeks in advance) you just have to access www.getbus.eu, and fill
the requested information on the form. Payment can be made by PayPal, credit card or MB.

INVITED SPEAKERS
Gérald Santucci
Gérald Santucci was appointed in July 2012 as head of the unit Knowledge Sharing at
the European Commission's Directorate General for Communications Networks,
Content and Technology (DG CONNECT). He promotes an organisational culture
where everyone can know what goes on around them, where learning is constant and
ideas flow in all directions, where there are systematic linkages between policy,
regulation and research, and where insights and judgements as well as documents and
facts are shared with a view to continuously adding value. He supports the DirectorateGeneral in the implementation of the new Better Regulation guidelines adopted in
2015. Gérald is an economist by profession. He holds a master’s degree from the
Institute for Political Studies in Paris and a PhD in microeconomics from the University of Paris 12 Val-deMarne. Between March 2007 and June 2012, Gérald was head of the unit Networked Enterprise & Radio
Frequency Identification (RFID) that managed a portfolio of some 50 Research and Innovation projects
grouped around two clusters – Future Internet Enterprise Systems (FInES) and Internet of Things (IERC).
Under his leadership, the European Commission adopted a communication on RFID (March 2007), a
recommendation on the implementation of privacy and data protection principles in RFID-enabled
applications (May 2009), and a communication on the Internet of Things (June 2009).
Ricardo Gonçalves
Dr.-Ing. Ricardo Jardim-Goncalves holds a PhD degree and received his habilitation
(Agregação) in Industrial Information Systems by the New University of Lisbon (UNL).
He is an Associate Professor at the New University of Lisbon, Faculty of Sciences and
Technology, and a Senior Researcher at UNINOVA – Instituto de Desenvolvimento de
Novas Tecnologia. He has graduated in Computer Science, with MSc in Operational
Research and Systems Engineering. His research activities have been focused on
Interoperability of Complex Systems. He has been researching in European
Commission funded projects during the last 25 years, including those in the domain of
Digital and Sensing Enterprise, with more than 200 papers published in conferences,
journals and books. He directs GRIS (Grupo para a investigação em Interoperabilidade de Sistemas;
Group for Research in Interoperability of Systems) at UNINOVA (Instituto para o Desenvolvimento de
Novas Tecnologias), CTS (Centro para as Tecnologias e Sistemas). He is project leader in ISO
TC184/SC4.
Klaus-Dieter Thoben
Klaus-Dieter Thoben studied mechanical engineering with a focus on product
development. He received his Doctor of Engineering degree in the field of CAD/PDM
applications. In 1989, he joined BIBA (Bremer Institut für Produktion und Logistik
GmbH) as Head of the Department of Computer Aided Design, Planning and
Manufacturing. In 2002 he was appointed professor at the University of Bremen and he
became director of BIBA. Since 2008 he is head of the ‘Institute of integrated Product
Development’ at the Faculty of Production Engineering. Since 2012 he is the
spokesman of the Research cluster of Dynamics in Logistics (LogDynamics) at the
University of Bremen as well as member of the board of ForWind, a joint research
cluster of the Universities of Oldenburg, Hannover and Bremen on Wind Energy. His
main research activities include but are not limited to the application of information and communication
technologies to support co-operative processes and environments with a specific focus on product
development (smart/intelligent products engineering), product and systems lifecycle management,
collaborative process chains and enterprise networks. He has more than 25 years of experience in coordination and management of European and national funded research projects including EU funded
Networks of Excellence and large IPs (Integrated Projects).
Francisco Duarte
Bosch Car Multimedia Portugal, University of Minho, Bosch, Blaupunkt, University of
Minho. Dr. Francisco Duarte (b. 1968) is a Senior Manager at Bosch Car Multimedia
Portugal, were he worked for seven years as embedded and MES software developer,
and 11 years as information systems manager. He was also co-responsible to install
and govern the BPM effort, and was the EFQM coordinator. During four years, he
managed and worked as a web software developer on his co-owned software
development company. He was the project leader for SAP implementation in some Bosch plants.
Currently, he is the responsible for Preventive and System Quality and for Customer Assistance at Bosch
Car Multimedia Portugal. He earned a Dipl. Eng. and a MSc. in Computer Science, and a PhD. in Software
Engineering, all from University of Minho. He is an Assistant Professor (invited) at University of Minho. His
research interests are business process models, software implementation of business processes,
reference models, and software engineering.

The first industrial revolution was the mechanisation of production using water and steam
power; the second introduced mass production with the help of electricity; the third, the
digital revolution, led to the automation of production; the fourth industrial revolution now
consists of the intelligent networking of product development and production, logistics and
customers. The EU manufacturing sector accounts for 2 million companies and 33 million
jobs; it is the source of 15 % of our GDP, 80% of our exports and 2/3 of investment in
R&D. As the EU has set itself a target to move the share of industry in GDP from today's
15 % to 20 % by 2020, it is estimated that an additional 100 B€ of investments in industry
per year is needed to reach that goal. The presentation therefore describes the European
Commission’s 'Digitalizing European Industry' initiative (DEI) and highlights the key digital
technologies which industry is encouraged to adopt, in particular Big Data, Internet of
Things, robots and autonomous systems.

The term Product-Service System (PSS) represents an integrated combination of
products and services. However, the design of a PSS raises a variety of issues since the
complexity of the integrated offering introduces ever challenging requirements than
traditional product engineering. The PSS concept is shifting the business focus from the
design and sales of physical products to the design, sales and provision of a system
consisting of products, services, supporting networks and infrastructures, which are
configured and integrated in such a way that they are jointly capable of fulfilling individual
customer demands. The presentation will reflect on the emergence, the presence as well
as the future prospects of the PSS concept and will elaborate on the challenges related to
interoperability issues to be solved during the design and the provision of a PSS. New
approaches actually under development in ongoing research projects will be introduced
and insight into industrial test cases will be provided.

Enterprise Interoperability (EI) is a well-established area of applied research studying the
problems related with the lack of systems and applications’ interoperability in
organizations, and proposing novel solutions for EI problems. However, in spite of
research efforts to date, the proper scientific needs for EI remain elusive, without the
support of an integrated compilation with the state of the art of the main research domains
that are pillar for the research and development in EI. This lack prevents the
generalization and full reuse of the methods and tools that have been developed so far,
and threatens the sustainability of EI. This presentation addresses the ongoing work of the
Scientific Committee of Interop-VLab, developing a book that intends to respond to this
need. After presenting the motivations for development of the book, the state of the art of
the several scientific domains addressed are described, and provided an integrated vision
of the future of EI in the advent of H2020.

Enterprises embody business processes to model and perform business tasks. The
interfaces between business processes (either internal or external) are key aspects to
have efficient and effective enterprises. Additionally, the interoperability between subprocesses, either at a semantic or at a technological perspective, still needs further
attention due to the significant number of information systems normally existing within the
same manufacturing enterprise and due to the new functional requirements triggered by
recent programs, like the EU Factories of the Future or the German Industrie 4.0. These
new programs focus the software development community on building platforms, and
developing applications, to support the internal supply-chain business processes,
proposing characteristics such as smart decision support, innovative simulation, or
resource efficiency, and requesting underlying technologies such as the Internet of Things
or Big Data. Yet, investigation is needed to discover the functionalities needed by
manufacturing enterprises and to establish clear standards on the technological solutions.
This presentation discusses what approaches should be used to implement the functional
requirements of the business processes related with shop-floor activities, and what
interoperability is requested to support such functional requirements.
