Over the years the engineers at Thin-Lite
Corporation have striven for continual
Improvement. They have continued to test and
refine the latest technology to meet
tomorrow’s lighting needs.
Dave Szymanek, (May 1, 1943 - Dec. 31, 2010), President
of Thin-Lite Corporation, at the time, proudly accepts the “E”
Award for Excellence in Exports from President Ronald
Reagan in the Rose Garden of the White House in 1984.
Thin-Lite Corporation pioneered fluorescent
lights for the RV market in 1969. Sure, there
were other fluorescents on the market in
1969, but nobody could match the durability
and brightness of Thin-Lite Products.
Today we are the leaders in the development
and manufacture of 12 volt DC lighting for
industry, trucking and recreational vehicles.
Our all-aluminum housings are corrosion and
rust resistant.
We are proud to say that no other line of
fluorescents lighting match our record. We
were the first in the industry to secure U.L.
listing of 12 volt DC fluorescent for marine
and R.V. Look for the familiar U.L and CE
symbols on our packages.
When you have over ten million Thin-Lites in
use, you are sure to hear from your customers.
In 1981, Thin-Lite Corporation introduced low
Voltage Low Pressure Sodium lights for use in
conjunction with photovoltaic, where grid
power is unavailable. Typical applications
include warehouse, security and street lighting
in remote areas. In 1999 Thin-Lite Corporation
introduced the 650 and 760 series Elegant light
fixtures. In 2002, 620 series, 500 series and
VFI 15, 199PL models we added in our
production line.
Thin-Lites are recognized and in demand
worldwide. Whether in the Sahara, the middle
of the jungle, or atop remote peaks in the Alps,
Thin-Lites have been found dependable and
efficient. In appreciation of this outstanding
representation of American know-how,
President Ronald Reagan awarded the
Presidential “E” Award for Excellence in
Exports to Thin-Lite Corporation in 1984.
At Thin-Lite we will continue our efforts to
produce the finest quality and most efficient
lighting for a variety of lighting needs
worldwide.
This includes fixtures using standard
fluorescent tubes as well as the full color
spectrum fluorescent tubes now available
everywhere. We can design and build to

THE ORIGINAL FLUORESCENT
CIRCULINE LIGHT FIXTURES
The Circuline series offer years of reliable, virtually maintenance free service while delivering maximum light output
at minimal amp draw. Designs are complemented by opaque white or prismatic diffuser lenses, white powder coated
aluminum housings, and attractive wood grain trim. Lamp and push button switch included with all fixtures. Model
109C, Model 109CXL and Model 110 have round housings. Model 109S is supplied with square housing. Model 110
is available with decorative opaque white lens to maximize light output for larger areas up to 100 square feet.

Thin-Lite surface mount fixtures designed for high light output at low amp draw. They offer years of reliable, virtually
maintenance free service. Energy efficient, they are complemented by non-yellowing diffuser lens, white pre-painted
finish, and attractive wood-grain trim. Standard fixtures have aluminum housing. They include standard fluorescent

TUBE LIGHT SURFACE MOUNT FIXTURES
Thin-Lite surface mount fixtures are designed for high light output with low amp draw. They offer years of reliable, virtually
maintenance free service. Non-yellowing diffuser lens with or without wood grained trim and white powder coated
aluminum housings are standard. Fixtures use standard fluorescent tubes, available worldwide, and Thin-Lites’ highly
efficient DC electronic ballasts. Model 180 has a three way rocker switch for choice of red light or white light. Model 190
has two separate rocker switches and two DC ballasts to operate red lamp, white lamp, or red and white simultaneously.

2.25” wide and 1.25” deep, they provide lighting in low profile area and aisle lighting. They fit nicely under

These surface mount series can be used commercial, industrial, and even residential. They are designed for practical
applications where decorative styling and durability are desirable. They feature satin finished anodized aluminum housings
and clear diffuser lenses for maximum light output. All are designed for remote switching. Models 151 and 153 are supplied
with low profile end caps, no lens. These fixtures utilize standard 17 watt (24”) or 32 watt (48”) fluorescent tubes readily

Our 900 series fixtures were developed for efficient, attractive, and noise free operation where maximum light is required.
Anodized aluminum housings, clear acrylic diffuser, and full spectrum compact lamps provide true color rendering.
Their low profile makes them ideal for commercial and industrial vehicles, remote area housing, schools, mobile medical
offices, and storage cabinets where alternative energy and solar power are available. Supplied with or without rocker
switch, and compact fluorescent lamps that have minimum color rendering index (CRI) of 82.

Recommended Installation procedure for all Thin-Lite Products.
1) Which size wire should I use for installation?
We recommend you use 16- gauge wire for optimal installation of a single fixture. Please see note below
under “How much voltage drop is in my circuit?”
2) What is the recommended Voltage at the battery?
Test input voltage at mounting location of fixture. Thin-Lite 12VDC fixtures are designed for optimal
performance with input power of 12VDC + 2 VDC/ -1.5 VDC.
How much voltage drop is on my circuit?
First, test the voltage on the circuit at the battery. Next, test the voltage at the farthest fixture on a series or
loop run. Subtract the fixture voltage from the battery voltage. This is the amount of voltage you have lost
through your wiring, or your voltage drop. The optimal voltage for lighting is between 13.2 volts and 10.8
volts.
How do I fix a voltage drop problem?
You can fix a voltage drop problem a few different ways:
a) Increase the wire size. Larger wire has a lower resistance, and less voltage drop will occur. See table 1.
CAUTION: DO NOT OVER-AMP WIRE; IT CAN CAUSE FIRE DANGER!
b) If you are using a series run, you can reduce voltage drop by changing it to a loop or T run.

3) How do I mount the fixture?
a) Carefully remove lens and when necessary remove lamps and reflector to locate mounting
holes in fixture chassis.
b) Attach black wire from fixture to + (positive) power input lead with wire nut or similar
connector (not supplied).
c) Attach white wire from fixture to - (negative) power input lead.
d) Mount fixture on flat surface. Use with at least two threaded fasteners (not supplied).
e) Re-install reflector and lamp(s) and test unit for proper operation.
f) Carefully re-install lens.

TROUBLESHOOTING ALL FLUORESCENT FIXTURES
Caution and Safety: Troubleshooting techniques require measurements with input voltage applied
requiring extra precautions to avoid electrical shock, please use caution and safety. Use proper
safety equipment such as eye protection and gloves when performing electrical measurements.
Most problems with lights occur when power is interrupted to the light fixture or when the light bulb
or its socket is defective.
If you are not comfortable working with electrical wiring, voltage testers, and the like, try a few
simple procedures detailed below, but, if those do not solve the problem, call an electrician.
ELECTRICAL TEST EQUIPMENT
The following equipment is recommended for testing fluorescent fixtures:
True RMS Voltmeter (voltage ranges 0 to 1000 Volts AC and frequency range of at least 500 KHz for
electronic measurements. Ammeter (clamp-on type acceptable) for magnetic ballast current
measurements and electronic ballast input current measurements. Ranges: 0 to 10 amperes AC with at
least one range 0 to 250 milli-Ampere (mA). Magnetic ballast input and output voltage and current
frequencies are 60 Hz. Input voltages and current frequencies for electronic ballasts are 60 Hz, but the
output frequency of most electronic ballasts is above 40 KHz.
INOPERATIVE FIXTURE- Why doesn't my light fixture work?
Often a fixture becomes inoperative due to causes not attributable to the ballast. It is therefore important to
examine all fixture components before removing the ballast for replacement. We recommend you read the
following:
Question 1- “I have completed the installation but my lights do not turn on”









Check battery voltage.
Check switch on fixture or on Wall.
Check all connections for a bad contact. Make sure all wiring & connections are secure.
Check the line (battery) side of the wiring. Make sure that power is being supplied to the fixture.
Replace or check all lamps to ensure satisfactory operation.
As lamps are removed, examine all sockets to ensure they are not damaged or broken and are making
proper and positive contact with the lamps.
Make sure all lamp sockets are seated properly into sockets.
Examine all electrical connection within the fixture, including at the lamp sockets, to ensure
conformance with the wiring diagram on the ballast.
If it still will not light, check the voltage at the light. Recommended operating voltage is between 11
and 14 VDC.

Voltage drop due to loose connections at 12V fused distribution panels is not uncommon in mobile
applications. Adjust torque where needed. Improperly tightened fasteners may reduce voltage
delivered to 12V lights and accessories.

If one or more light fixtures are controlled by a wall switch verify that it is a DC rated switch. The
"DC Rule of Thumb" is “ a switch that is rated at 15A 125VAC will likely perform satisfactorily at
15 amps 12VDC.” Contacts on a non-DC rated switch may become corroded. This increases
resistance and reduces voltage levels. Check voltage at all wall switches and replace if defective or
voltage reading is below 12VDC.

Check all connecting points on the 12VDC wiring harness for corrosion. Clean as needed.

If there is no voltage at the light, check the wire to make sure they are connected. Black wire is
positive (+) and white wire is negative (-). Fixtures are protected against reversed polarity. If
improperly connected, the fixture will simply not turn "on". If the wires are connected properly, and
there is still no voltage to the light, check voltage at battery and fuse box.
Question 2 - “Some of my lights turn on, but not all of them”.





Follow instructions for Question 1 first.
Check for any bad contact between the fixtures.
Make sure the bulb is plugged securely in the socket of the problem light fixture(s).
Make sure that the fixture is installed correctly.
Check the line (battery) side of the wiring. Make sure that power is being supplied to the fixture.
Question 3- “When I turn on the lights, they flicker”.




Check for bad contact between the problem fixture(s). Make sure all bulbs are securely plugged into
the bulb sockets.
The flickering should only be momentary, as it is a built-in protection mechanism against power
surges.
If lamps still flicker, remove lamps from sockets and re-install them in the opposite direction.
Question 4- “My lights are on, but they are dim”.



Make sure all bulbs are fully and securely plugged into the bulb sockets.
Make sure you are not using a dimmer or your fixtures are not connected to a system that features
“cinema” (automatic dimming feature at shut-off) lighting , Thin-Lite do not recommend dimmers
or the such, this will revoke the warranty.
Question 5- “My lights work for a while, but then they shut off”.


Check for bad contact between the fixture(s) and track. Make sure all bulbs are securely plugged into
the bulb sockets.

These are standard Lamps, and may be available at your local hardware or can be ordered through local
distributor.

FLUORESCENT LAMP TYPES
Fluorescent lamps sold in the United States today are available in a wide variety of shapes and sizes ranging
from miniature versions, rated at 4 watts, 6" in length and 5/8" diameter, to 215-watt types, 96" long and 2"
in diameter. Commercially available fluorescent lamp types include T12, T8, and T4 compact and T5-linear
and compact. Base types include bi-pin, single pin, several compact bases and recessed double contact.
LAMP LIGHT OUTPUT
Lumens are the measurement for lamp light output. Fluorescent lamps are measured in initial lumens or in
design lumens. Initial lumens are a measure of the amount of light that the lamp produces after about 100
hours of operation. Design lumens are a measure of the amount of light that the lamp produces after it has
operated for approximately 40 percent of its rated life. Because light output from a fluorescent lamp
diminishes over the life of the lamp - a process known as Lamp Lumen Depreciation - a lamp's design
lumens (or mean lumens) are always lower than its initial lumens. Lumen maintenance refers to the rate at
which light output declines over time and lumen maintenance percentages are typically based on light output
at 40% of a lamp's rated life.
LAMP LIFE
Lamp Life is a measure of how long a fluorescent lamp operates and determined by that point in time when
50% of the lamps have failed. Lamp life is a function of emitter depletion - when you run out of emitter
emission material the lamp will no longer operate. Some lamps will last longer than the rated life and some
fail sooner.
Starting methods, switch cycles, the type of ballast used and other factors can significantly affect lamp life.
In general, life ratings for fluorescent lamps range from
6,000 to 30,000 hours based on the industry standard of three burning hours per start.
LUMENS PER WATT
Lumens per Watt are a rating of a lamp's light output in relation to the current passing through it or the watts
it uses. The more efficient a lamp, the more lumens it will produce per watt of power consumed. This
measurement (LPW) is also referred to as lamp "efficacy".
What does CW mean?
Alphabetic suffix that follows lamp part number, e.g., F15T8/CW, designates color temperature of lamp. The
correlated temperature of a light source is expressed in Kelvins (K) and is a means of describing the
appearance or chromaticity of the source itself. It describes the apparent whiteness of the lamp. Incandescent
lamps deliver a limited color temperature range between 2700K and 3000K the same color range as a warm
white fluorescent lamp.
Fluorescent lamps offer a wide choice of color temperatures from cool white (CW) 4100K that produces a
bluish white light reminiscent of moonlight on cold snow; Warm White (WW) 2700K to 3400K light with a
yellowish tint, reminiscent of fireplaces and candlelight to Daylight (D) 6000-6500K that is typical of midmorning daylight entering through a window on a sunny day.
What is the difference between Fluorescent, incandescent and LED lamps?
Incandescent Lamps: Regular incandescent lamps produce light by passing an electric current through a
filament in a vacuum or gas filled bulb. They provide low initial cost, good color rendition and excellent
optical control.
Halogen Lamps: Halogen lamps also use a filament; but since it is sealed in a pressurized capsule containing
halogen gas, the lamp provides brighter, whiter light and improved energy efficiency.
LED Lamps; Light from LEDs is concentrated in a beam. Refractive lenses are used to diffuse and spread the
beam but this dramatically reduces light output. They are a good choice if mounted close to the work surface.
LED’s are not recommended for lighting large areas where a wide dispersal of light is needed. Fluorescent
fixtures are the most efficient source of light for illuminating a large area.

Linear Fluorescent Lamps: Are 4-5 times more efficient than Halogen or Incandescent lamps. In a
fluorescent lamp, an electric arc passing between cathodes in a tube excites mercury vapor and other gases
and produces UV radiant energy. A phosphor coating on the tube then converts this energy to visible light.
Fluorescent lamps are very energy efficient and provide a wide range of color responses.
Compact Fluorescent Lamps: Compact fluorescent lamps employ small diameter tubes that are bent so they
begin and end in a ceramic base. This allows them to be produced in a wide variety of configurations, greatly
extending the applications for fluorescent lighting.

What is the warranty policy?
The warranty extends to the original purchaser for two years but commercial applications have one-year
warranty. It is limited to rectifying any such defect and/or replacing such defective part, except lamps,
provided the fixture is returned prepaid, with proof of purchase to: Thin-Lite Corp, Attn: QA, 530
Constitution Ave, Camarillo, Ca. 93012. If the fixture has been superseded (new design replaces older
design) replacement will be made with a current model of the same quality performing the equivalent
function. This warranty does not cover labor costs for installation or removal of light fixture and is void on
any light fixture that has been improperly installed, overloaded, abused or altered in any way. Other than the
above described obligation, Thin-Lite Corp. assumes no further liability with respect to the sale or use of its
products.
Limited Lifetime Warranty To Original Purchaser
After two years from the date of purchase (except commercial applications-one year), if the inverter ballast
fails, Thin-Lite Corp. will repair or replace most fixtures with a current production model at a flat rate.
Customer is responsible for freight charges from his location to Thin-Lite factory. UPS ground charges for
return of repaired fixture to customer is included in the flat charge.
