The Addams Family program !
President’s Message W elcome to The Addams Family. Once again, the efforts of a wide range of talented, committed and giving individuals combined with months of work have resulted in this musical production which we are proud to present. Community theatre affords people the opportunity to develop their abilities and share them with others. We continue to believe that community musical theatre enriches lives and makes our community a better place. In order to stage a show of this size, we rely on the support of many people, businesses, and organizations. Thank you to all who have helped make this production possible. On behalf of our Executive Board, I would like to thank our Director of The Addams Family, Robert Ursan. Rob, you continue to rise to the occasion and have created yet another unique and outstanding musical theatre experience. We appreciate your energy, creativity and generosity. Please enjoy the show. Plan to join us in the fall, when the Lyric Singers will present Unforgettable, directed by Jane Ursan. Not the sanest way to agree to direct a show, I will grant you. But the lack of sanity was a perfect fit. For, after all, Charles Addams creations were always dear to my heart as I grew up. Lurch pouring boiling oil on carolers still brings a smile to a little too tame probably the cartoons were far darker and made you feel guilty for laughing at the depths to which the characters sank. The Broadway version of this show ran for around 800 performances before it went on tour around the world with a revised book and score. But a lot of the initial insanity remained. And that's where I came in and had one of the funniest casts ever assembled in this city pour down on me. How lucky am I to have these magnificent voices and truly unhinged people to play with? Because that's what rehearsals have felt like: Play. The loud and raucous laughter emanating from the basement of Lakeview United has, perhaps, not been equaled since fearlessness, energy, and the modicum of talent they display. They are gifted comedians and singers, and have made the rehearsal process an absolute joy. A big thank you to Jane Ursan, my often forgotten sister, who has sweated and fretted endlessly over the music; Joan Ziffle, our unflappable stage manager/set dresser/painter/ limb provider/etc., and Sue Hewitt, her slightly flappable assistant; Donna Rumpel, whose last name belies the pristine costumes she makes; Gerry Weir and Norris Bjorndahl for their brilliant set making; Dianne Burrows and her prop elves; Tori Yuzik and her lights; and the many others who have added so much to the production by painting, building, schlepping, etc. etc. And especially to Carolyn Speirs, our production manager, for bringing such a wonderful group of people together to create this mad, mad performance. If you laugh half as much in the audience as I have during the rehearsals, you are in for a great treat!
