Anglers are also catching a few specks and redfish. The water is still stirred up by wind, but it should be improved by the weekend if the wind dies down. Mangrove snapper are plentiful, but small. Best catch: The last few days the water has been clearing with the dying winds. Fish River and Shellbank reefs are holding nice white trout and small specks. Nice redfish are coming from Fish and Magnolia rivers. Bream fishing is wideopen right now. The Big Mouth is giving up a few ground mullet, croaker and the occasional redfish. A few flounder are around Zundel’s and Battles Wharf reefs. Best catch: Wind has been a problem lately, but the fishing is still good out of Bayou La Batre. Specks, redfish, white trout and ground mullet are being caught in the bayou, Grand Bay, Katrina Cut and the cut in Coffee Island. Specks and redfish are coming from around Coffee Island and along the north shore of Grand Bay. Flounder have also moved into the bayou. Specks are also coming from Heron and Portersville bays. Best catch: The Dauphin Island beach east of the pier is holding a lot of white trout. The east-end pier and rock jetties are holding ground mullet, white trout and a few black drum and redfish. The Heron Bay Cutoff Bridge is holding a few specks, some flounder and the occasional redfish. Specks are biting on the Shoals. Oil platforms 38 miles out are holding jack crevalle and triggerfish. Best catch: Salinity is about 16 ppt and clearing a little, despite the wind. Specks are biting around rigs in Mobile Bay if folks can get to them, on the Shoals and at Katrina Cut. People fishing off the bank are doing very well on white trout, ground mullet, specks and flounder from Isle Dauphine Golf Course to the pier. White trout are east of the Dauphin Island Bridge at the stump buoy and on the Lynn Boykin Reef when anglers can get to them. Best bait: Live and dead shrimp for everything. Specks are eating Gulp in new penny, molting and natural colors. 98 Sam’s 46 Cedar Point Pier 7 Scott’s Landing Stop & Shop Best bait: Live and dead shrimp and squid for everything. Tight-lined croaker should work for specks around rigs. 36 Fish ’ n Fever 251-479-8302 251-981-4245 251-626-5323 251-873-4476 Best catch: Folks fishing from boats in Dog River this week saw a replay of last week’s action. Some came in with only a few fish and others brought in good quantities of flounder, redfish and specks. Most of the fish were caught around the marinas, on the flats and along the grass banks up the river. Anglers did well from under the Dog River Bridge, River Shack Pier and Bay Park, stopping by the shop to show limits of nice redfish, big drum, croaker and flounder. The same species are also in the Theodore Industrial Canal, with mangrove snapper and sheepshead fairly abundant. Those fishing in the Canal from boats, the end of the road or under the Rangeline Road Bridge are all catching fish. Best catch: Fishing has picked up with winds subsiding and the seas allowing anglers to get out. Inshore and on the beach the water is still stained and muddy, but the fish are biting pretty well anyway. Spanish mackerel, bluefish, ladyfish, pompano and whiting are on the beach with birds giving away the locations. The cobia run is pretty much over, except for those living on reefs now. Lots of amberjack and some grouper are coming from deeper reefs and wrecks. There’s a good yellowfin tuna bite at the floaters south of Mobile. Specks and redfish are biting very well inshore. Flounder gigging has been great, too. Best catch: Bream fishing is improving across the lower Mobile-Tensaw Delta. Pockets of clean water in the heads of bays just above the Causeway are holding a lot of bass and a few bream. The speck bite is still well below the Mobile Bay Causeway. Folks fishing off the seawall are still catching limits of nice redfish and a bunch of flounder. As the water clears, look for Turtle Ditch and North Pass to be holding specks and reds. Best catch: The south wind creates a few problems. During the day, doing real real good with ground mullet, white trout and slot redfish. When the wind slows, folks are catching good numbers of flounder. At night, bull reds, black drum, ground mullet and white trout are biting well. Specks are starting to come in under the lights.
