Barbara Banke
Chairman and Proprietor, Jackson Family Wines
Barbara R. Banke, one of the wine industry’s top executives and innovators, serves as both the Chairman and
Proprietor of Jackson Family Wines, the company she co-founded with her late husband, Jess Jackson.
Dear Friends,
A Letter from our Chairman
The Jackson family–owned wineries are both a family business and a family passion. We believe in the value
of hard work and embrace our responsibility as stewards of the land. Integrity, honesty and innovation are the
pillars of our company.
Over the past three decades we have planted and acquired some of the world’s finest vineyards in our pursuit of
quality. We understand that great wine can only come from great terroir—from the mountaintops of Napa Valley
to the fog-drenched bluffs along the Sonoma Coast to the verdant hilltops of Tuscany.
We also know that great wines are the product of intelligent and respectful winemaking practices. From harvest
to bottling, we do everything possible to preserve the essential character of the grape, the vineyard and the
region. We strive to make wines that are both meaningful and delicious.
Thank you for your support.
Warmly,
Barbara R. Banke
Chairman and Proprietor
J ACK S O N FA M I LY W I N E S

Barbara, a UCLA and Hastings Law School graduate, is no stranger to hard work, problem solving and the
challenge of juggling a plethora of diverse projects. A former land use and constitutional law attorney, she spent
more than a decade arguing cases before the U.S. Supreme Court and Courts of Appeal. Barbara has launched
wineries, purchased vineyards and been intimately involved in the operation and management of Jackson
Family Wines. Along the way she also managed to raise three children with Jess – Katie, Julia and Christopher.
In 2013 Barbara was named the Wine Enthusiast’s “Person of the Year” (the first women to receive this honor)
and in 2014 she was #3 on a list compiled by Fortune and Food & Wine of the “Most Innovative Women in
Food and Drink.”
In addition to the flagship Kendall-Jackson and La Crema wineries, Barbara and Jess helped establish nearly two
dozen small, high-image wineries across California’s top coastal wine regions – Sonoma, Napa, Monterey, Santa
Barbara and Mendocino. Today Jackson Family Wines owns some of the most esteemed wineries in California
including Arrowood, Byron, Cambria, Carmel Road, Edmeades, Freemark Abbey, La Jota, Matanzas Creek,
Stonestreet, Lokoya, Cardinale and Vérité. The portfolio also includes the international properties of Chateau
Lassègue in Bordeaux; Tenuta di Arceno and Arcanum in Tuscany; Alcance and Calina in Chile; and Yangarra
Estates and Hickinbotham Clarendon Vineyard in Australia. In 2013, the Jackson family purchased property in
Oregon’s Willamette Valley, and in 2014 the company expanded its reach into South Africa with the acquisition
of Fijnbosch Farm in the Stellenbosch region.
Barbara is involved in the planning and management of each Jackson Family wine estate with emphasis on the
company’s ultra-luxury wineries, new vineyard acquisitions, and company-wide business initiatives.
Beyond wine, Barbara is deeply involved in equestrian racing, a passion she cultivated with Jess. Their celebrated
stables, Stonestreet Farms in Kentucky, produced “Horses of the Year” Curlin and Rachel Alexandra, as well as
“Eclipse Award Winner” My Miss Aurelia.
A well-known philanthropist, Barbara is a strong advocate for education. She co-founded the Sonoma Paradiso
Foundation and helped build the Sonoma Country Day School in Santa Rosa. She serves as a founding board
member for Sonoma Academy, an independent college-prep high school recognized for academic rigor. She and
the Jackson family have committed nearly $4 million to establish the Jess S. Jackson Sustainable Winery Building
at UC Davis (opened summer 2013), a national center of excellence designed to train the next generation of
winemakers in sustainable practices. Barbara also serves as a global ambassador for the Susan G. Komen Breast
Cancer Foundation.

Don Hartford
Don Hartford grew up on a small strawberry farm in western Massachusetts and later attended the University of
Massachusetts at Amherst. To cover the cost of tuition and expenses, Don worked as a “straw boss” on a cigarwrapper tobacco farm, a degreaser in a bicycle factory and a lifeguard at Congamond Lakes in Massachusetts.
Laura Jackson Giron is Jess Jackson’s second-oldest daughter and a co-owner of Jackson Family Wines. With her
sister Jenny, Laura helped plant some of the family’s first vineyards nearly 40 years ago in Lake County, and she
remains involved with the business to this day.
After earning his BA, Don spent a year teaching English as a second language in Spain and later taught Spanish
for four years in Massachusetts. Don met his wife, Jennifer Jackson Hartford, in 1979 at Santa Clara University
in Northern California, where both attended law school. In 1982, Don graduated with his law degree and went
on to build a legal career at a Tokyo law firm, based in San Francisco. He also was a partner in a small country law
partnership and served for a time as a winery general counsel and vice president.
Laura was Kendall-Jackson’s first employee, working out of the winery’s office in the Jackson family’s basement.
In the early 1980s, there were only a handful of Kendall-Jackson employees, and as a result, Laura wore many
hats. She was known as a “Jackson of all trades,” working in accounting, hospitality, marketing and sales. Laura
traveled extensively across the United States to make initial presentations and promotions of the new and, at the
time, little-known Kendall-Jackson wines.
Over the last twenty years, Don has been immersed in winemaking and winery management. In the process, he
returned to one of his first loves—the land and farming. Prior to serving in his current roles as Jackson Family
Wines’ CEO, Don was General Legal Counsel for Jackson Family Wines, President of La Crema Winery and
CEO of the family’s Artisan and Estate Wineries. Don and Jenny, a co-owner of Jackson Family Wines, make
their home in Sonoma County and have two children, daughter Hailey and son MacLean.
Today, Laura owns and farms over 160 acres of Russian River Valley Pinot Noir and Chardonnay as part of the
La Crema winery and its fantastically popular wines. Laura also continues to work as a La Crema spokesperson
and as an ambassador for all of the family’s wineries. She and her husband, Rick Giron, who also works at Jackson
Family Wines, make their home in Sonoma County.
Jennifer Jackson-Hartford
Jennifer ( Jenny) Jackson Hartford is Jess Jackson’s oldest daughter. More than 40 years ago, in the 1970s,
when Jenny and her sister Laura were teenagers, they began their participation in the family business by helping
to plant the family’s first vineyard in Lake County California.
At the time, Jenny thought her enlistment by her father to plant vines was simply motivated by his desire to
distract her from her teenage boyfriend. But, she soon learned how very serious her father had become about
farming and wine. Planting vineyards eventually led to more work, such as taking enology classes at University
of California Davis, going on endless drives through all key vineyard growing regions in California and loading
barrels in the back seat of the “Yellow Banana,” the family’s used yellow Cadillac convertible, to deliver the barrels
to the vineyard to help her father make practice lots of the family’s first wines.

Katherine Jackson
Katherine (Katie) Jackson, the oldest daughter of Barbara Banke and Jess Jackson, shares her family’s passion
for all things wine. She was born in San Francisco and raised among the vineyards of Sonoma County. During
her early years, Katie regularly attended business meetings with her mother, learning through osmosis about the
intricacies of production, administration, sales and marketing.
Not content to idle away her teenage summers, Katie started working in the family business in high school. Her
first harvest was spent in the cellar at Stonestreet Winery. There she learned the basics of winemaking from the
bottom up, cleaning the tanks and filters, making yeast preparations and supervising maceration.
Katie is currently focused on sustainability and government relations. She also plays an important role in
communicating her family story to the public. Katie’s husband, Shaun Kajiwara, works as the Vineyard Manager
overseeing all of Jackson Family’s Mendocino properties.
Jenny entered law school in 1979, planning to follow in her father’s footsteps as a successful attorney. By the
time she graduated in 1982, Jess had just begun to make Kendall-Jackson wines, and instead of asking Jennifer
to work at his law office, he asked her to help with marketing, sales and communications for the new winery. She
remembers accompanying him to meet with bankers to secure the winery’s first loans, as well as month-long
marketing trips across the United States to remote markets that didn’t always live up to the romantic notion that
most associate with the thought of wine sales. In fact, Jenny remembers pouring wines at a retail shop surrounded
by a barbed wire fence in the middle of Watts during the 1980s. But, over time, Jenny’s passion for wines and her
family’s wine businesses has only increased.
Katie is an industry veteran with knowledge and experience well beyond her years.
Jenny remains a co-proprietor of Jackson Family Wines and her husband, Don Hartford, is CEO of Jackson
Family Wines. Don and Jenny make their home in Sonoma County with their two children, daughter Hailey and
son MacLean. Jenny and Don are also the founders of Hartford Family Winery, and with Hailey and MacLean,
its sole owners. Hartford Family Winery is a small winery located in the Russian River Valley of Sonoma
County that specializes in small bottlings of high-personality, single vineyard Pinot Noirs, Chardonnays and
Old Vine Zinfandels.
After school and during summers, while working at several Jackson Family wineries, Julia formed a lifelong bond
with the French-speaking daughter of one of the winemakers. This friendship led to a formative summer in
Bordeaux, where she learned French and immersed herself in a culture she loves to this day. Being in France,
around the vineyards, and learning the French style of winemaking was an incredibly powerful experience for
Julia. Her fluency in the language led to a position teaching French to sixth-graders during her college years.
Julia Jackson
Julia Jackson was born in San Francisco in 1988. She grew up surrounded by the vineyards and wineries of
Sonoma County. As the middle daughter of Jess Jackson and Barbara Banke, Julia has always had an interest in
all aspects of the wine industry from production to marketing to sales. As a young child she often picked grapes
with her father under hot, sunny skies while he explained the importance of hard work and perseverance. Both
parents impressed upon her the values and focus it took to achieve success.
Julia now works alongside the international sales team at Jackson Family Wines, helping to introduce her family’s
wines to a new generation of aficionados around the globe.

Christopher Jackson
Christopher Jackson, the youngest son of Barbara Banke and Jess Jackson, has been immersed in the wine
industry his entire life. As a child growing up in Sonoma County, he spent many days with his father walking
the vineyards, touring the wineries and speaking with the winemakers and viticulturists at each of the Jackson
Family Estates. He witnessed the passion and dedication that went into the production of world-class wine. He
was taught by his parents the three basic tenants for running a sustainable business—hard work, love of family
and respect for the land.
During the summer between college and enrolling at UC Berkeley School of Law, Chris gained inside political
experience as an intern for Speaker of the House, John Boehner. That summer in Washington, DC gave him a
heightened respect for leadership and vision.
Chris currently works with the Jackson Family Wines sales team.
Our Passions
In addition to handcrafting fine wines from some of the world’s most acclaimed regions, our family’s passions
include a commitment to sustainability, giving back to the communities and raising Thoroughbred horses.
Whether our focus is on responsible farming and vineyard management, philanthropy that has a positive impact
where we live and do business, or world-class horse breeding and training, we believe that love and hard work
can accomplish great things.
Sustainability
Jackson Family Wines was founded in 1982 with a belief in three time-honored principles: the importance of
family, the molding of character through hard work and the creation of high-quality wines through long-term
stewardship of the land. More than thirty years later, Jackson Family Wines remains family-owned and familyrun, a distinction that is rapidly becoming a rarity in the wine industry. Proprietor Barbara Banke and the Jackson
family continue to embed these core values into the company’s local and global practices.

Third-Party Vineyard Certifications – 100% of our vineyards are certified sustainable under the
Certified California Sustainable Winegrowing (CCSW), Sustainability in Practice (SIP) programs, and Low
Input Viticulture & Enology (LIVE)
Water Conservation – All of our vineyards are drip irrigated to conserve water and the energy required to
pump it. Pilot projects with soil moisture probes, sap flow monitoring and “smart” watering systems further
reduce vineyard water consumption for irrigation and frost control.
Integrated Pest Management – Our approach to looking at the whole vineyard ecosystem focuses on the
cultivation of populations of healthy bugs that drive out pests. Rotating cover crops provide beneficial insect
habitats and improve water holding. Hundreds of nesting boxes for owl and raptor populations control damage
caused by rodents.
Crafting Our Wines
We believe that a diversified and sustainable approach to business produces true value on investment and longterm economic viability, which ultimately benefits the communities around us.
The Jackson family’s vineyards and wineries are located in some of the most prestigious winegrowing regions in
the world: Napa, Sonoma, Mendocino, Monterey and Santa Barbara counties in California; Willamette Valley in
Oregon; Bordeaux, France; Tuscany, Italy; McLaren Vale, Australia, Cape Town, South Africa; and Maule Valley
in Chile.
From the people we employ to the tourist trade we support, to the revenue associated with the worldwide sale
of our wines in retail and restaurants, the economic impact of Jackson Family Wines is significant for both
California and the nation.
Our commitment to sustainability in our vineyards and wineries isn’t just the right thing to do from an
environmental perspective; it’s also highly beneficial in driving shared economic and social value.
Land Stewardship
The Jackson family believes in a triple-bottom-line approach that focuses on making the best wine, in the best
way, which will allow the family to continue a tradition of excellence for generations to come. The family and its
wineries demonstrate leadership through the implementation of numerous energy- and water-saving practices,
including the development and implementation of high-efficiency technologies and pilot projects. The family
is also committed to sharing key findings from these pilot projects within the wine industry and the broader
business community, to multiply the effect of our efforts.
Less than one-third of our land holdings are planted to vines, leaving nearly 14,000 acres of open space. We
maintain natural ecosystems and riparian corridors that enable wildlife to inhabit or traverse our vineyards in
search of water, food and shelter.
Third-Party Certifications and Honors
The very foundation of our company lies in the health of our land. We recognize that responsible land stewardship
is closely tied to biodiversity, which is essential to the health of any ecosystem.
We have planted more than 5,500 trees, mostly native oaks, on our properties throughout California and
have implemented site-specific control measures, including creek restoration to remove invasive species and
prevent soil erosion. We have also contributed to the recovery of the endangered California tiger salamander
by establishing breeding pools on our properties in Santa Barbara County. Additional highlights of our
commitment to land stewardship include:

Our sustainability programs have earned the endorsements of a number of international third-party certifications
and awards including Green Company of the Year; Europe’s leading drinks trade publication The Drinks Business
named Jackson Family Wines as their 2013 Green Company of the Year. They honored us for our longstanding
track record of environmentally friendly business practices with a clear vision for the future and far reaching
commitment to sustainability.

Charitable Giving
The extended Jackson family supports more than 40 community-based organizations, including the Red Cross,
United Way, and Boys and Girls Clubs. Our company regularly collaborates with local government, educators,
scientists, and business leaders on issues affecting our industry and community. Hundreds of our employees give
their time, creativity and financial support to countless causes and issues that are important to all of us.
Working with community leaders over the last seven years, the family has contributed more than $6 million to
charities throughout Sonoma County. The family’s $500,000 donation to the Sonoma County Justice Center
for victims of domestic violence in 2010 was the largest single pledge for any family justice center nationwide.
In keeping with a longstanding commitment to education, the family pledged $3 million to the University of
California, Davis, for the construction of the Jess S. Jackson Sustainable Winery Building. This will enable
the adjacent LEED Platinum-Certified winery, brewery and food complex to become the first self-sustainable
(net zero-water, energy and carbon) teaching and research facility in the world. It includes 10 modular spaces
that will house upgradeable installations for sustainable wine production technologies including rainwater
recapture and carbon dioxide sequestration.
Our Wineries
At Jackson Family Wines, we produce exceptional wines from noble varieties grown in the regions where they
perform at their highest level. Our story began back in 1975 when Jess Jackson purchased a pear and walnut
orchard in Lake County, California. Two years later he replanted the rolling terrain to a vineyard. In 1982 Jess
made his first vintage of Vintner’s Reserve Chardonnay. The next year that wine was awarded the first-ever
Double Platinum Award in the American Wine Competition.
Today our company owns more than 35 individual wineries in five countries on four continents. We own
thousands of acres of grand terroir in regions ranging from Mendocino to Santa Barbara and Australia to
Tuscany. Our estate wineries are staffed by dedicated, experienced people who are driven to make wines that
are both personal statements and accurate depictions of their geological, topographical and climatic origins.

The Cabernet Sauvignon is deep, luscious and eminently drinkable. For
additional bouquet and textural complexity, the wine includes small amounts of
Merlot, Malbec, Cabernet Franc and Petit Verdot. Pauline’s Cuvée is a Merlotdominant blend named after Barbara Banke’s mother, Pauline. It is subtle, silky
and elegant. The Sauvignon Blanc is rich, aromatic and harmonious. It is aged
primarily in stainless steel tanks with 10% used oak barrels. A dash of Semillon
and regular stirring of the lees add creaminess to the mouthfeel.

Cambria was originally part of the Tepusquet Vineyard. Planted between
1970 and 1971, this ambitious venture helped establish Santa Maria Valley in
Santa Barbara County as a world-class wine-producing region. The Cambria
portion of the property was purchased in 1986 by Barbara Banke, who has since
updated the vineyard with new clones, rootstocks and farming practices. Today,
Cambria is still 100% family owned, and the wines are 100% estate grown.
Cambria’s 1,600 acres feature 14 different soil types delineated into four distinct
vineyards. Each vineyard has been mapped and subdivided into dozens of
smaller blocks based on geology and topography. With the Pacific Ocean just 15

Monterey’s Salinas Valley is a hauntingly beautiful landscape located midway

produce compelling Pinot Noir and Chardonnay from the Panorama Vineyard

The climate here is driven by the Blue Grand Canyon®, a massive geological
formation beneath the waters of Monterey Bay that is 60 miles long and
more than 10,000 feet deep. Its cold waters create the fog and brisk winds
that sweep the Salinas Valley each day, creating conditions that are ideal for

The 415-acre Panorama Vineyard, the primary fruit source for Carmel Road, is
located on a bench in the Arroyo Seco AVA. It is the largest, single, high-density
planting of Pinot Noir in the United States. The competition for water and
nutrients within each block forces the vines to put more of their energy into
ripening the fruit. This results in wines with heightened aromatics, incredible
concentration and outstanding complexity.
Wine is all about the journey. The discovery of new wines, new regions and new
vintages is what keeps wine exciting to novices and enthusiasts alike. For Drew
Barrymore, the allure of that journey and the chance to create an offering to
share with her family and friends propelled her to delve into the world of wine.
A true collaboration, Barrymore Wines and Carmel Road brings together two
family-owned companies with deep roots in California. Carmel Road focuses
on expressive wines with unique personalities, and brings that same spirit to the
Barrymore Pinot Grigio.
Carmel Road’s winemaker is Kris Kato who attended Oregon State University’s
fermentation science program. Working at wineries both big and small along the
Central Coast, Kris’ experience has prepared him for his role at Carmel Road
where he focuses on Chardonnay and Pinot Noir.

Carneros Hills Winery is situated in the tenderloin of Carneros. Although it is
a relatively new venture – established in 2013 – the property was originally the
site of the historic Buena Vista Winery. In 2013-2014 the facility was renovated
to accommodate the production of luxury-class Pinot Noir. Among the
improvements were the addition of hand-sorting systems, basket presses, new
fermentation vessels and individual barrel rooms to provide ideal conditions for
fermentations and aging. Winemaker, Eric Johannsen has been with Carneros
Hills since its launch. Of his 15 years as a winemaker, 13 have been spent in
Carneros and the Sonoma Coast.
Carneros Hills’ Pinot Noir is comprised of modern Dijon clones and classic older
selections, including Swan and Pommard. The grapes are cold-soaked for up to
a week, fermented in open top tanks, gently pressed, then aged in medium-toast
French oak barrels (30% new). The winery also produces two Chardonnays
under the Chardenet label, from the Durell and Coteau Blanc vineyards (a blend
of choice blocks from the Carneros Hills estate vineyard).

To take full advantage of the site’s complex topography, the Boone Ridge
Vineyard is divided into a patchwork of small blocks planted to seven different
clones of Pinot Noir. Decomposed sandstone provides superb drainage and
mineral uptake while naturally restricting vine vigor and yields.
Winemaker Eric Johannsen knows his way around Pinot Noir, having previously
worked at La Crema, Cuvaison and Williams Selyem. His goal is to showcase the
incredible personality of this high-elevation, maritime-influenced site. To that
end, the yields are kept low, the grapes are harvested ripe (not overripe), the lots
are kept separate until final blending, and the influence of new oak is judicious.
Champ de Rêves Pinot Noir is a deep, aromatically charged wine that showcases
the high altitude and cold climate of its site.

Using grapes grown in Mendocino County’s rugged coastal mountains,
Edmeades crafts Zinfandels with distinctive character and personality. The
winery prefers a delicate touch in the cellar, allowing each vineyard to be fully
expressed in the wines it makes. The simplicity of the winemaking allows the

through in every wine. Ben Salazar joined Edmeades as head winemaker in

The Chardonnay proved that California could produce stunning world-class

The Yamhill-Carlton AVA status was granted in 2004 to distinguish fruit grown
in the oldest marine sedimentary-based soils in the greater Willamette Valley.
These soils and the growing conditions create wines with a profile that is distinct
from that of wines from the surrounding AVAs in several significant ways.
More specifically, the Pinot Noirs lean to black fruit, minerality and floral —
rose and violet—elements.
In addition, the AVA is located on hillsides between 200 and 500 feet in elevation,
the sweet spot for distinctive, age-worthy Pinot Noir.
The Yamhill-Carlton climate, combined with the sedimentary-based soils of the
growing sites, produce wines with nuanced fruit and earth characters, driven by
ageable tannins that are structured yet elegant when young.

When Jess Jackson produced his first Chardonnay in 1982, his goal was simply
to create a wine that people of all levels of expertise could enjoy. Three decades
later, the family-owned and -operated Kendall-Jackson is one of the most trusted
and celebrated wineries in the world. For the last 23 consecutive years, the
winery’s Vintner’s Reserve Chardonnay has been the no. 1 selling Chardonnay
in the United States.
One aspect that distinguishes Kendall-Jackson’s wines from their competitors is
vineyard sourcing. Kendall-Jackson owns more than 12,000 acres located on the

Silver Palm’s Chardonnay has a fruit forward aroma with perfume of apple

preserved while giving the wine a soft mouth feel.
Silver Palm’s Cabernet Sauvignon is dark ruby in color, with aromas of blackberry

lead to a soft finish. The Cabernet relies heavily on grapes grown in Mendocino

Etruscan civilization nearly 3,000 years ago. Since its purchase by Jess Jackson

premier wineries.
The estate climbs from 1,000 to 1,750 feet above sea level and features 220 acres

protection from the cold north winds. The well-draining, stony soils naturally

As with many of Chianti Classico’s greatest wineries, Tenuta di Arceno grows
both native Italian and Bordeaux varieties. Sangiovese is the signature grape of
the estate. Smaller percentages of Merlot, Cabernet Sauvignon and Cabernet

rich, pure, regionally specific and highly expressive.

soil for grapes, especially Pinot Noir.
Winemaker Craig McAllister studied viticulture and enology in his native New

Maggy Hawk, named after a race horse owned by proprietor Barbara
Banke, is located roughly two and a half hours north of San Francisco in
the Anderson Valley sub-AVA of Mendocino County. Although vines were
first planted in this remote, pastoral region in the late 1800s, the Anderson
Valley has only recently become recognized as one of the top wine regions
for producing Pinot Noir.
Set on a hillside next to a forest of towering redwoods, the 57-acre Maggy
Hawk estate is one of the closest vineyards to the ocean in the Anderson
Valley. During the growing season, the climate is foggy in the morning and
windy in the afternoon with large temperature swings from day to night. The
decomposed sandstone soils, rarely found in California, offer few nutrients
and exceptional drainage. Clones, rootstocks, trellising and row directions are
all tailored specifically to each individual block. Thanks to the demanding
conditions, the yields naturally average less than two tons per acre.
Maggy Hawk’s core Pinot Noirs are vinified from single blocks and single
clones. They are named after the race horse’s progeny: Jolie, Afleet, Stormin’
and Unforgettable. In exceptional vintages, the winery also produces small
quantities of its flagship Pinot Noir, Hawkster, named after Maggy Hawk’s
sire. The wines are made by Elizabeth Grant-Douglas, an expert in coolclimate farming and winemaking.

While Mount Veeder is generally cool, the Mt. Brave vineyard sits above the

Thin, gravelly loam soils with rocks large and small force the vines to develop
deep roots. Nutrients and minerals are scant, resulting in tiny berries with
intense flavor and ripe tannins. The vineyard is famous for its rugged terrain,
where virtually all work in the vineyard must be done by hand. At harvest,

“truth.” The wines are a combination of old-world experience and new-world
fruit. Vigneron Pierre Seillan, Vérité’s first and only winemaker, is a man who
understands and appreciates the importance of the land. He is intimately
involved in every step of the winegrowing process from bud break to bottling.

micro-crus along the western slopes of the Mayacamas Mountains in Sonoma
County. These micro-crus are small vineyards within vineyards, a palette of
methodology as droit du sol, “right of the soil.” Each vintage, the winery
releases three Bordeaux-inspired blends: La Muse (Merlot based), La Joie
(Cabernet Sauvignon based) and Le Désir (Cabernet Franc based). While
all three wines are impeccably balanced and sumptuously textured in their
youth, they have the weight and foundation to age for many years.

WINES
WindRacer is a unique collaboration between two wine industry pioneers,
Barbara Banke and Peggy Furth. The genesis of the winery came from a
discussion about the merits of Pinot Noir and Chardonnay from two of
California’s top regions: Sonoma’s Russian River Valley and Mendocino’s
Anderson Valley.
Barbara’s preference for the Anderson Valley was a testament to the precision
and linear focus of the wines. Peggy’s fondness for the Russian River spoke to

the opulence and exotic aromatics of the wines.

a block-by-block basis. The wines are fermented in French oak barrels and
aged on the lees for 12 to 16 months with frequent stirring. Stylistically, the
Anderson Valley is tight and crisp, while the Russian River is rich and creamy.
Both Pinot Noirs are cold-soaked and fermented in open-tops with frequent
punch-downs to extract full aromatics and flavors. The Russian River is deep
and spicy with red fruit flavors. The Anderson Valley wines are produced in
extremely limited quantities.
