IMPORTANT
Please read the information below regarding entry qualifications and procedures for the 2016 GOODE Water Ski
National Championships. Meeting entry qualifications and following the necessary procedures will determine
whether or not you compete in the tournament. The contestant is responsible for meeting entry qualifications
and providing proof of eligibility within the stated time limit.
QUALIFICATION
Entry qualification requirements are available in the 2016 AWSA Rulebook at USAWATERSKI.org.
ENTRY AND ENTRY DEADLINE
Online entry submission is required at USAWATERSKI.org. USA Water Ski must receive entries by 5 p.m. on
Tuesday, Aug. 2, 2016, to avoid penalty. Late entries will be accepted at USA Water Ski until noon on Friday,
Aug. 5, 2016, or by the Chief Registrar at the tournament site until 5 p.m. on the day prior to the scheduled start
of the skier’s first event. Entries submitted after the 5 p.m. Aug. 2 deadline must include a late fee of $10.00 per
24-hour period or portion thereof. ABSOLUTELY NO ENTRIES WILL BE ACCEPTED AFTER 5 P.M., THE DAY
PRIOR TO THE SCHEDULED START OF THE SKIER’S FIRST EVENT. ABSOLUTELY NO FAX ENTRIES. If
you desire verification of receipt, please refer to the Registration Status Report at USAWATERSKI.org.

1 Event: $160; 2 or 3 Events: $187; Family of 3 or More: $425*
* Each participant must complete online registration.
REGISTRATION
All contestants must register at the National Tournament, either in person, by web registration at USAWATERSKI.org, or through a representative, providing all required proof of qualification and fees no later than one-half
hour before the scheduled start of the contestant’s first event. If the skier’s registration on USAWATERSKI.org
is incomplete or is NOT shown as qualified and fully paid in the online registration system, then they would
need to present themselves at on-site Registration. On-site registration must occur within the allowable hours
as listed below.
No competitor will be permitted to ski in the 2016 GOODE Water Ski National Championships tournament unless he or she has signed the Adult/Minor Specific Event Waiver. Signature of parent or guardian is required
for a minor entering the tournament.
Registration hours will be from 10 a.m. until 5 p.m. on Sunday, Aug. 7, 2016; from 45 minutes prior to the
start of the first event until 5 p.m. on Monday, Aug. 8 through Friday, Aug. 12; and from 45 minutes prior
to the start of the first event until 30 minutes prior to the start of the last event on Saturday, Aug. 13.
REFUND POLICY
There will be a refund processing fee of $35.00. Refunds must be applied for to USA Water Ski in writing or by
email to [email protected] prior to 11:59 p.m. (EDT.), Aug. 14, 2016 to be considered. Refunds will
be paid by USA Water Ski within 60 days after the conclusion of the Nationals. Cancellation requests will be
honored due to lack of qualification or medical with documentation provided. All other excuses will be evaluated
by the President of AWSA and reported to the Tournament Committee chairperson of the LOC at the time the
cancellation notice is received to determine whether or not a refund will be issued.

USA Water Ski’s Coaching Development Program provides a structure for the certification of water ski instructors and
coaches through a three-step process of education, participation and evaluation. The goal of the program is to improve
the quality and consistency of water ski instruction in the United States.
Refer to the Coaches Development Program Quantitative Requirements for Advancement and Renewal for more
information.
USA WATER SKI LEVEL 1 INSTRUCTOR (ages 18 and up): USA Water Ski provides training and certification for aspiring
instructors and coaches to teach students the necessary skills to safely and successfully participate in the various USA
Water Ski sport disciplines.
In an effort to ensure that USA Water Ski certified instructors and coaches are well versed in the importance of the
health and safety of all students, especially minors, USA Water Ski requires all instructors and coaches to submit to and
pass a Criminal Background Screening and SafeSport training program. The cost of the course is $70.00 or $110.00 if you
elect to purchase the optional coaches liability insurance coverage. Please see below for more information on the three
components of the Level 1 Instructor's Course.

Note: Foreign instructors/coaches and those under the age of 18 are not eligible for this program.
1) Criminal Background Screening: This process includes the investigation and review of various consumer reports
and law enforcement/public records including, but not limited to, the items listed below. Results are returned
within, on average, three (3) business days.

2) SafeSport Training: This training, originally created by the U.S. Olympic Committee (USOC), and adapted by USA
Water Ski, focuses on recognizing and reducing circumstances for potential abuse to occur, the availability and
procedures for any person to report suspected abuse or misconduct (including protections from any retaliation
or repercussions for such reporting) and procedures and means by which a coach should respond to allegations
of abuse and misconduct. Upon completion of the training, you will be required to answer a series of 20 multiple
choice or true/false questions. The test results are graded and presented immediately. Passing = 90%
3) Level 1 Instructor’s Training: The Level 1 training is an introduction to the sport of water skiing and the first rung
on the ladder of USA Water Ski's Coaches Certification Program. Level 1 introduces beginning teaching techniques
for introducing two-ski, one-ski and tricks skiing; teaching methods for beginning wakeboard, kneeboard and
barefoot skills, plus a section on water toys. Upon completion of the training, you will be required to answer a
series of multiple choice questions based on each chapter of the Level 1 course. Passing = 80%

OPTIONAL COACHES LIABILITY INSURANCE PROGRAM: USA Water Ski offers certified instructors/coaches who have
completed the required Criminal Background Screening and SafeSport Training the option of participating in the our
Coaches Liability Insurance Program. This program provides General Liability and Professional Liability coverage to USA
Water Ski certified instructors/coaches. For more information regarding this insurance program, please refer to the
"Coaches Liability Insurance Program" link located under "Insurance Resources" on USA Water Ski's Web site.
USA WATER SKI JUNIOR LEVEL 1 INSTRUCTOR (ages 16 and 17): The Junior Level 1 course is the same as the Level 1
Instructor Certification Course, except that applicants are not required to submit to and pass the Criminal Background
Screening nor are they eligible to purchase the optional coaches liability insurance coverage. The cost of the course is $45.
HOW TO BECOME A LEVEL 1 OR JUNIOR LEVEL 1 INSTRUCTOR:
 Click here to log into your “Members-Only” section of USA Water Ski’s Web site using your membership number
and password.
 Click on the “Instructor/Coach Programs” link from the menu on the left-hand side of the page.
 Click on the applicable link from the submenu and follow the instructions to register for and purchase the course.
Upon successful completion of the Level 1 course, you will be added to the officials’ database. You will then be able to log into
the “Members-Only” section of USA Water Ski’s Web site and print your official’s qualification card. If you purchased the
optional coaches liability insurance, you will receive your insurance certificate via email. Junior Level 1 Instructors can
download a certificate of completion once the course is completed.
OTHER COACHING PROGRAMS: For more information on the American Water Ski Association’s (AWSA) and Water
Skiers with Disabilities’ (WSDA) instructor/coach programs, contact USA Water Ski Headquarters.
RATING MAINTENANCE: In order to maintain an Instructor/Coach rating, an individual must:
1. Maintain USA Water Ski Active membership (does not include GrassRoots or Guest members).
2. Successfully complete a Criminal Background Screening and SafeSport Training once every two (2) years by
following the instructions below:

 Click on the “Purchase Instructor/Coach Certification Renewal” link from the submenu and follow the

elect to purchase the optional coaches liability insurance coverage.
USA Water Ski will notify you via e-mail when your rating is due for renewal.

Thoughts from the EVP,
The 2016 Ski Season is upon us! I hope this finds you in great physical condition and ready to go.
The excitement always builds, along with dreams and expectations, as the weather conditions
continue to improve as we near the new season. I hope everyone has a fantastic year in 2016.
First, I would like to thank everyone for all the faith and support I receive as EVP. The learning curve
was great in the first year and sometimes overwhelming. Some mistakes were made but overall it
was a good year. It is a great honor to be your representative and it is my hope that you will get
everything you are looking from me as a Southern Region leader.
It looks like 2016 is going to be a great year. We already have 111 tournaments sanctioned, which is
way ahead of last year at this time. We are starting 3-event team skiing, with teams competing at the
Regional Tournament with the winner proceding to Nationals, with disregard to qualifications. This
team format should lead to a lot more interest and excitement. With this new concept and the
Nationals being at a new site in Boise, Idaho, this should be a very interesting year indeed.
Please take the time to thank the Ski Nuts in Paducah, KY for hosting a great Regional Tournament
in 2015. With the addition of the pro tournament and the head to head night slalom, it was quite an
event. I look forward to returning to Paducah in the near future.
This leads into this year’s Regional Tournament at Lymanland in Duncanville, Ala. We have signed a
two-year contract with Lyman Hardy, so this will be our Regional site in both 2016 and 2017. This site
is world class; so I believe there will be a lot of great performances with records set. So mark your
calendars and be ready to ski, because this should be a great event.

Ratings / Ranking List Requirement from AWSA for Entry:
a. Girls & Boys 1-3 and Women & Men 7-11 have no minimum requirement.
All other divisions must have a minimum level 6 ranking.
b. The current AWSA Ranking List will determine qualification.
c. Florida residents shall be accepted first into this tournament. Out of state and
foreign skiers can then be accepted to ski for rankings list only, not to exceed
the tournament entry limit.

a. All skiers must submit a completed skier biography form with their on-line
registration to be considered entered.
b. Upon arrival all, skiers must check-in with registration at the clubhouse.
c. All skiers must be current member in good standing of the Florida Waterski
Federation.

Ratings Required: Entry requirements will be based on the AWSA Ranking List 21 days prior to
the entry deadline for the Southern Regional Tournament (July 3)
All entries for the AWSA Southern Regional Tournament shall have a minimum of a Level 6
Ranking, except Boys/Girls 1&2 and Men/Women 5,6,7,8,9,10,11 who may enter with a Level 5
Ranking.
All skiers listed in the AWSA Ranking List in the Open Men/Women and Masters Divisions, shall
be automatically qualified to enter those respective skiing divisions/events, regardless of their
Ranking Level.
The first place event winning skiers, without regard to their Ranking Level and who scored in their
events at their respective current years state tournament, shall be allowed to ski that event at the
Southern Regional Tournament.
Overall three event skiers with a Level 5 Ranking who skied and scored three events at their
respective state tournament shall be allowed to ski all three events at the Southern Regional
Championships.
Any skier on their State/Regional Team shall be automatically qualified.
Skiers scores from tournaments, class C and above, between the cut off date (COD July ) and the
absolute final day for entry ( late entry date July) to the Southern Regional Tournament, that meets
or exceeds the locked in base number required for their events/division, in either the Ranking List
by “Rank” or by raw score, shall be qualified to enter the Southern Region Tournament.
Proof of Qualification: Qualification will be established by the Registrar at registration check-in.
No Paper work needs to be submitted with Online Registration.
Directions to Site: From Birmingham, Alabama take I-59/20 south/west to Tuscaloosa, exit on US
82/McFarland Blvd exit, go east on US 82 14 miles to 67 mile marker turn right on Waterski Ln.
From Montgomery, Alabama take US 82 East to Tuscaloosa, turn left ¾ of one mile past 66 mile
marker onto Waterski Lane.
Airports: Tuscaloosa Regional Airport, 7601 Robert Cardinal Road, Tuscaloosa, AL 35401 (18
miles). Birmingham International Airport 5900 Messer Highway, Birmingham, AL 35212 (62
miles).
Headquarters: Hotel Capstone, Please note this hotel is very busy and has several other events, if

order correct. Each junior skiing admission is included with entry.
Dual Towboats: In the event of a major weather delay, it will be at the option of the Chief Judge to
determine if the situation necessitates the use of dual towboats.
Notice to All Skiers: All Regional Medical Excuses need to be submitted prior to the absolute
deadline via email to the Executive Vice President-Bob Archambeau ([email protected])
Consult current edition of the Rule 4 (AWSA Rule Book) concerning medical excuses and out of
region skier rules.
Refunds: If you present a medical excuse and ski in the National Championships, you will not
receive a refund on your entry.
Site Information: For the safety of all persons, all dogs and pets must absolutely be kept on leash.
Owners not adhering to the mandate will be asked to remove their pets from the site.
Please do not violate the no car zones, we will ask you to remove your car.
Operation of all modes of transport are subject to the regulations of LymanLand USA, and
LymanLand USA reserves the right to confiscate keys of any vehicle not operated in a safe manner.

2015 PRESIDENT’S REPORT
STATE of KENTUCKY
The 2015 season in Kentucky was one of the busiest ever, from a tournament standpoint.
� A total of nine tournaments were held at three different sites, with the Kentucky Lake Ski Nuts hosting five of these events. � The Ski Nuts, with the help of other members of the KWSF, hosted the 2015 Southern Regionals Water Ski Championships. General consensus was that this Regionals was a smashing success. Perhaps the best news of all was that the entry count showed a slight increase over 2014, with a total of 220 skiers pulled. The Ski Nuts were able to comfortably complete the tournament schedule in four days, with minimal use of the north lake for some of the tricks event. � The second “Ordinary Joes vs. Women Pros” cash prize competition, pitting top Open Women skiers against top Masters Men skiers from around the country, was held as an overlapping event to the Southern Regionals, and following the Regionals. This event, a fund raiser for “In His Wakes” ministry and with total prize money of $5,250, again attracted a large entry of 34-‐mph skiers of both sexes. Tim Huston came away with the top prize, with our own Eric Kelley finishing in the runner-‐up slot. This uniquely formatted day and night competition, the “brain child” of Bob Harris and Eric Kelley, was also sponsored by the Ski Nuts. � Two water ski clinics for juniors were held. A one-‐day clinic was held ahead of the state tournament. The 10th Annual “Kentucky 3-‐Day Juniors Clinic and Ski School” was again held at Twin Oaks Lakes in Paducah, with Dane Mechler as the featured instructor. Eighteen skiers attended this second and larger instructional session. A new competition site near Bowling Green is in the final stages of preparation. Newly owned by Eric Kelley,
this lake is expected to add to the list of lakes holding competitions in Kentucky in the near future.
Key state awards were presented at the annual summer meeting and awards banquet in July. They were (for the
ski year 2014):
Junior Skier of the Year – Austin Collins (Murray)
Adult Skier of the Year – David Keller (Somerset)
Federation Member of the Year – Eric Kelley (Bowling Green)

And finally, it has just been announced that Kentucky’s Bob Harris has been recognized as the
“2015 AWSA Volunteer of the Year” by USAWS. Bob has been instrumental in the development and
administration of the on-line judge’s and scorer’s clinic program, with approximately 18 clinics and 270
officials participating to date, in the three years of this endeavor. It is conservatively estimated that, aside from
the countless reduction in travel hours and mileage for our sport’s officials, this program has saved officials up
to $50,000 total in travel and overnight expenses to attend clinics. Kudos for Bob!!
