UNITED WAY 2015 INVESTMENTS
Grant Writer
In keeping with our mission to
maximize the resources available to our community, in the fall
of 2015 the United Way of
Colquitt County contracted with
Amanda Beaty to work as a grant
writer. We asked her to work with
our partner agencies to locate
new funding sources and to, hopefully, secure
funding. Amanda has been successful in writing
grants at the national and state levels, with particular
expertise in K-12 education and in early reading
instruction. She married a local boy, Bud Beaty, and
they have lived and raised their family in Moultrie
since 1973. Amanda has a passion for working with
our partner agencies to bring additional funding into
this community to help them achieve their goals.
Education
. United Way awarded a Community Impact grant in
the area of education in the fall of 2015.
The award was given to the Moultrie-Colquitt Library
for Story Time in the Park. This is a three year award
to provide interactive story times that will include a
variety of literature genres and utilize storytelling
techniques such as puppetry, call and response, role
playing, mime, etc. Professional storytellers,
puppeteers, authors, musicians and performing
artists will be brought in to take the library out into the
community and to promote the parks as community
hubs.

Day of Action
September 23, 2015— More than 60 volunteers worked at 8 locations on projects of need. The volunteers painted,
cleaned, built a wheelchair ramp, made literacy packets, pressure washed buildings, trimmed shrubbery, planted flowers, and worked with preschool students on healthy activities and snacks at these locations: Children’s Cheer & Toy
Shop, Boy’s and Girls Club of Moultrie/Colquitt County, Colquitt County Arts Center, Hero House, Moultrie YMCA, Moultrie/Colquitt Library and Odom Elementary. Everyone worked hard and then finished the day at the YMCA Adventure
Course on the Zip Line!
Community Investment Committee
Each year, United Way board members serve on the community investment committees to determine the most effective
allocation of funds. We also have non board members who assist with this process. The board members and volunteers
spend more than 200 hours during May and June meeting with partner agencies.
